  1. Thank you. I finally got a hold of my friend last night who is an RN and this is basically what she said. She said whether they are in a bed or chair to find a way to get behind them and perform abdominal thrusts.
  2. At that point the most advanced person in the facility was a CNA. So my training would have been to watch him die. ☹️
  3. Im a CNA but I can't find the CNA forum... Today I just happened to glance into the day room and see an elder turning purple and trying to breathe but making no sound. I ran over and he wouldn't respond. I yelled for the cook to get the other CNA. He started coughing finally. I was terrified. This man is a Hoyer lift. I had ZERO idea what to do in this situation. I've never been trained for this. This patient could not have been leaned forward or taken out of their chair. Is there training for this beyond BLS?! What do you do when a patient is choking that you can't perform a Heimlich on or lean them over?
  4. He's not diabetic. I'm certain of that. He also seems depressed but puts on a show for everyone. I feel like gettin a fresh apple fritter would make his day!
  5. I was told I can bring things like deodorant and lotion etc for my elders. Only that I won't be reimbursed which is fine. I didn't expect I would be. What about treats? We get donuts every other Saturday and this past Saturday one of my residents wanted an apple fritter and the one we had was hard as a brick. I felt terrible of course. Would it be ok to bring him a fresh apple fritter in the morning one day? I just feel like he got jipped and it's a while 99 cents at the bakery. I can't imagine this would be any different than bringing him a bottle of body wash or a stick of deodorant, but I'm new so...:
  6. The Nursing program im looking at requires that you be a CNA beforehand. I am filling out my CNA app and I have two problems: 1) I have lived so many places over the past 10 years. I think 8 places. I do not know the oldest 3 addresses and google did not turn up anything. I suppose I can call the one apartment complex but I doubt they'd be able to go back that far without contacting corporate? Idk. The other was a house. I guessed at the address and can't find it on google. I'm not sure what to do about that. 2) it asks if you've ever been convicted of s crime but doesn't specify what constitutes a crime. Do I need to list every traffic I've ever had? I'm 33 so that's a few and I'm not sure I can even remember them all. How do I get that information? Like I know I got a speeding ticket in Wisconsin when I was in my early 20's but that's as detailed as I can be. Don't even remember the county.
  7. That's what I am planning currently. They do say in their application you have to have a current CNA and CPR.
  8. There is no way to pay that in that short of time. I'm not sure if I have any fin aid left but if I do it's less then 10k but I think when I consolidated my loans it ate up whatever eligibility I had left. So that will all come out of pocket. Trust me I'd love tod o the ABSN. I just can't come up with the money.
  9. This is he only path I see. I have a BGS that has 3 years of STEM courses so I have all but 6 prerequisites out of the way and all gen ed courses done. I thought the accelerated BSN programs would be perfect BUT I can't finance them. The only one offered in my area that I qualify for is 44k over true course of 15 months. I can't afford that. So so I researched my butt off and thre only other org I see that is affordable is a long one. I'd do the CNA this winter. Then apply to LPN school for fall. Of course the LPN requires the CNA. Then after that apply to the RN program the following fall, which of course requires the LPN (at this school anyway). And eventually apply to the RN to BSN which is still incredibly expensive but spread out over 3 years instead of 15 months is more feasible. It also seems that the RN to MSN takes the same length of time. Anyway, I just feel like there has to be a shorter route. This is insane to me, especially coming in with a bachelors already. That's 5 years!! I live in Omaha also so the schools are Methodist, Clarkson, metro and unmc. Unmc is one I cannot get into and won't even apply to though. Do do you know of or see any shorter paths? I'm 32 with 3 kids. If I could afford the accelrated program I'd be all over it but it's just not gonna happen. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  10. I'm not a nurse yet, but I just wondered, how do you differentiate between menstrual cramps and cyst pain? because the treatment would differ. I can't imagine prescribing exercise for cyst pain and I remember not only missing school for it but even as an adult, having to leave work because of it. ironically I have minimal menstrual cramping...But I'd think elementary and middle school aged girls would have a hard time telling the difference. I'd be leery of recommending exercise without a history. but again! I'm not a school nurse. Just learning!
