  1. Has anyone had a credit check at this point? Not sure how much later things will kick off this year considering the later application cycle. Thanks.
  2. Nursing programs do a pretty darn good job of preparing students for the constantly evolving and policy driven system that has become a much different beast than the 'old days'. If we trained like nurses used to we would all fail miserably. You may have learned as you went, but we have to start in this system with a completely different set of tools in order to survive getting sued or worse, losing our liscences. Your comment was honestly a bit jaded.
  3. Maybe these hospitals should provide the appropriate pay for their nurses and this wouldn't be a problem...
  4. UMASS Amherst only uses your prerequisite GPA. I had a 3.85 for prereqs and 6 months of cna experience when I applied. Write a good statement that is peer edited and find a couple of great references; I used my a&p teacher and hospital employer as references. Show you are unique and have passions in things other than nursing, they want to see you as a person outside of the profession as well. Good luck and study often.
  5. I declined my spot already yes. I sent Jackie an email on last Friday. Best of luck!
  6. May 1st is the deadline for those accepted to respond. I'll be declining my spot soon because I'm going to Duke. Best of luck to you all! Now one of y'all can take my spot
  7. I called financial aid this morning and they told me that if you were awarded a need based scholarship then you should also receive some need based scholarship the 4th term as well. This information just made it so that I can now justify the cost of attendance! So excited and can't wait to see you all in August! Best of luck to the rest of you!
  8. You're right, I was unaware of the HRSA scholarship, something I will look into. Thanks CSmontana and msB27! Best of luck to everyone and their final choices! We're almost there!
  9. Duke's loan forgiveness is NOTHING like it used to be. Now they only offer a maximum of 25,000 after working for them for a few years; it used to be over 80%. Not to mention NC does not pay nurses the greatest, so it's a wash. Next, everyone needs to look into HRSA and do their research. The money that is given to you as reimbursement is taxed at roughly 35%. So, do not expect to receive but half of what you think you will get.
  10. Well, financial aid is up on the portal. I got some aid, but still not enough for what I really need. I was surprised because I made under the federal poverty line. I just don't know what it takes to get enough help these days. Anyone get the full need based award? Also, it's not showing anything for Fall of 2018, I wonder if we will get anything for that term? It's such a hard decision to make, I hate this stress so much.
  11. 1 month, by May 4th.
  12. Looks like Nora is out of the office until Thursday. She said she would send out an email to all impacted students once decisions were released.
  13. I accepted the offer but I won't pay the deposit until I receive the award letter. Financial aid told me they strive to get the financial awards released within 2 weeks post the acceptance letters. They also said they usually release award information on a Friday, so we should hopefully know by next Friday at the earliest.
  14. Has anyone received an email from Nora since decisions were released?
  15. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes and hoping to get need based scholarship from Duke as I was under the federal poverty line last year. If I don't receive at least 40,000 from Duke I'll have to choose a cheaper program. Everybody wants your money these days, and it only gets more difficult to get any help. That's why I applied to to 7 programs.
  16. Check your siss accounts!!! I'm in!!! Wahoooo!!!
  17. So the accepted list and waitlist are about the same size. There will be just over 70 accepted for Fall 2017. I know someone in the program now and was also told by admissions. I can't believe it's taking so long, I'm just about at my wits end and am running out of deep breaths. Here's hoping for tomorrow...
  18. The old tuition information is gone. The price was 29,000 all year. Once we received the financial cost of tuition letter with the 33,500 cost, they also updated it online. It is what it is.
  19. Hello possible classmates. I live in Portland Oregon and simply can't wait for those letters next week! I have a degree in vocal performance (3.35), work as a CNA at OHSU in the floatpool, and am interested in Duke's FNP track with an HIV certificate. I know they give really good need based scholarship for low income people as well as a few other scholarships for minorities in nursing. I'm also wondering when they will release merit scholarship decisions. Best of luck to you all and I hope to meet many of you soon!
  20. I was just accepted and would love to hear your thoughts on the previous person in your cohort who responded about the quality of the program. Can you share any sentiment with that post on this thread?
  21. I emailed admissions to see what number on the waitlist I was, and Jackie said, "we don't rank our waitlist that way, we'll let you know if space becomes available." Every time I have reached out for any information they continue to keep me in the dark. I have not been impressed with their communications at all.
  22. Its a 14% increase! I'm fed up with educational institutions doing this by astronomical numbers. Wages never increase by any relative amount and yet we have politicians that want to defund the grants and extra resources to reasonably pay for the increases. This is what it means when those at the top start making those of us at the bottom pay out of pocket for something we already going into massive debt for as they continue to line their pockets. I really want to see a better option for assistance for nurses that are not in this for the added income and start recognizing our vital importance to QUALITY healthcare. Ok, rant over.
  23. ANYBODY ELSE NOTICE THE $4,000 INCREASE OF THE PROGRAM?
  24. People say this often with the loan debate, but 140,000 in federal loans is NOT better than 60,000 in private. This program is one of the most expensive masters programs for nursing out there. Here's hoping for some scholarships!
