  1. good advice to start out with the prerequisite classes. I'm in the same predicament and I'm going to take your advice on making a list of the programs in my area and to start taking A and P, but I'm not sure about getting an A in the class though. Last time I attempted that class about 20 years ago, I got a D in it and I dropped it before finishing it, but I have gotten better at memorization since then and I have more schooling under my belt and I plan on getting at least a B or better. I am preparing myself now to take my Nursing career to the next level.
  2. I am ready to pursue a degree in Nursing now than ever before, but I don't know how I'm going to afford it. I was told to start out with an LPN and then move into an RN program to cut the cost is that true? My thing is I don't want to have to take the NCLEX twice. I don't have any of pre-req yet. What is the best way to approach my goal of a successful Nursing career? I just finished the CNA course and I'm waiting to retake the skill test. I also want to know which is the best way to keep my motivation going? Should I work in a Hosp or Nursing Home? I want to work somewhere that offers a tuition reimbursement to help me with paying for Nursing school. I need some input. I find it that in my current field of practice, I'm working a lot using my all, but I'm not getting paid what I'm worth and it's frustrating to me. I don't mind the hard work, but I also want to get paid. I started out as a Nursing major, but I changed my major because I had small kids at the time and I wasn't able to spend the needed time to study and be successful in Nursing school. I feel like I'm better prepared to do it now and become the best Nurse I can be. I welcome your suggestions and words of advice. Thanks, BarbnAction
  3. Wow! I'm pretty sure those 48 hours were very long. Well, you passed and I'm glad you did. I had to wait to hear about my Nursing Assistant test results too and I was a little nervous. I passed the written and not the skill. I'm scheduled to retake it on the 26th. I'm sure I will pass it this time because I know all of the steps. I was just nervous by the time i did the skill after taken the written portion. I need some information on a rural hospital or agency which would pay for someone to do Nursing. I am max out on students loans due to having a Master's degree already. Please, share any info on special grants or funding out there.
  4. This post has given me great hope. I shy away from Nursing about 13 years ago because I repeated A&P twice. I went into Social Work thinking that I wasn't strong enough in Math and Sciences to do Nursing. Now I realized that God was leading me to be ready for Nursing at a time like now. My husband got sick in 2013 and then my son in 2014 . As I'm dealing and coping with their illnesses, I keep thinking that I'm ready to enter the nursing career now. I've always been scared of Math and Sciences and thats the reason I gave up being a Nursing major in the past, but the Lord keeps putting me in the paths of Nursing. I did my BSW internship at a Hospital, my first job was at Hospital, and I worked 12 years at a Healthcare agency, and recently worked at a Nursing Home. I truly discovered my love for Nursing when I worked at the nursing home. What advice do you nurses have for me? I spoke to one of my Professors who told me not to pursue nursing because of my weaknesses in Math and Science. What should I do? I'm having a hard time finding a job in my field now because I don't have my licensure as an MSW.
  5. Grear advice! I like knowing about using YouTube. That's good to know before I embark on this journey again.
  6. Make sure you know your learning style and find you a student who is doing better than a C in the class and study with them. Be sure to review your notes right after each lecture. All I can say is that you're doing better than I did 13 years ago when I took A&P I. I did poorly in that class and I let it made me change my major along with having small kids at that time. I think I'm ready now to give it my best. I feel like I need to fulfill this dream of becoming a nurse. I hope this word of encouragement will help you as it will help me as well.
  7. I'm already in my 40's with a Master's degree in Social Work and now I want to go into nursing. I'm not good in Math and that's a concern. Should I start from scratch meaning taking a course in nursing assistant before attempting an LPN or an RN program? I feel like now I can do it better than when I attempted 13 years ago. Please, feel free to comment. I live in an area where schools are limited and I want to really combined what I have with Nursing and I don't know how to proceed.
