  1. I've been an lpn for 20+ years and make less than my first nurse job 20 years ago. The lifestyle is everything to me and my husband - no day care expenses, time of, holidays off. I could get a job in the summer and make up some income and i might when my son is older. Plus I get paid year round, so drawing that check in summer is sweet. It was a shock though

This is my biggest problem. I started 2 weeks into school and got two days of orientation from the nurse who worked the first 2 weeks. I struggled with the sheer volume in the beginning - I'm better about getting them out of my office but can not figure out how to stop them from coming. I've got kids with 78 visits this year . I swear these kids talk and they know if they say they hit their head I'm gonna keep them for at least 15 min for 2 Neuro checks - even if I think they are lying because what if they aren't? Mine are 7-8 graders, I know every teacher can't know this kid has already been to the nurse twice today but still - if you send him every single day for a stomach ache? I'm on spring break, so I'm not as fitted up about it as i usually am, lol
  3. Middle school with enrollment of 700 7th-8th graders 5 T1 diabetics 7 daily meds 4 g tube feedings 30-50 visits per day in addition to the above

I'm so glad I find this forum! I've been reading all of the posts like a textbook! New school nurse, hired 2 weeks after school started, 2 days of training from another new school nurse who just kept apologizing for not knowing the answers to any of my questions. I'm struggling with high volume in addition to scheduled tube feeds and meds and insulin dependent diabetics- I know I'm missing things with paperwork, I just don't know what they are! Thankful for the two bathrooms in the office or I'd never get to go! Lucky, the administration has been as helpful as they can be- they don't know the things I don't know either. I just keep telling myself I will figure it all out eventually, it's been 6 or 7 weeks and I'm having an easier time telling them to go back to class, telling parents yes,you really do need to come get your child. So glad I found this resource.
