My dad died yesterday
So very sorry for your loss. I assume losing a parent at any age is just heartbreaking. Sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

High School - School RN advice
HA!!! Thank you for the laugh. I actually like working with the teens (minus the 'half truths' and the dramatic entrances). For the most part the kiddos are actually pretty respectful and the set up is much more than I had expected. There's just a lot of them!!!

High School - School RN advice
Hello and a big thank you to you fellow school RNs out there. I had asked for help/encouragement while interviewing for a school RN job and I did end up getting it! I took your words to heart and it was much appreciated. I worked both my clinic job and the high school job for a while, but I can't physically do both and then take care of my family. Therefore, I am only at the high school now. Here is my question - What would be your best little nugget of advice? I mainly have specialty adult experience, so this is all brand new to me. I see a TON of kiddos daily and at least one emergency a day (large school). I am also a bit rusty when it comes to the type 1 diabetics. Any solid helpful advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Interview this week!
Thank you everyone!!! I sincerely appreciate all the feedback. I just got home from work and plan on researching even more tonight!! I know I am meeting with the director of HR, but not sure if there will be anyone else there. I wish the nerves would not get the best of me. Will keep you all posted. Would love to join the school nurse community!

Interview this week!
Hello fellow nurses! thank you in advance for any advice. I have an interview this week for a job that I am completely excited about - high school RN. I used to work for the public school system years ago as a specialist with ages 3-18. I decided nursing was more the career path I wanted to take. I have worked as a triage nurse the past 6+ years in a specific specialty. I miss the school system and want to go back in this new role. I know quite a bit about the (adult) specialty I work in, but I am nervous about the specific school triage rn questions they might ask. I have a solid resume, letter of intent and references. I usually interview well until that point and then I freeze up. Would anyone care to share those "what would you do" or "who do you treat first" scenarios they have experienced during an interview for school RN? Also, any tidbits (who can you delegate to in a school?). Again, any info is much appreciated! thank you and have a wonderful (and safe) school year ahead!

School Nurse Job Pros/Cons
Hello School Nurses!! I am trying to decide if I should make the jump to a school RN position. I have already interviewed. Currently work in a specialty clinic. Pros/cons? Any thoughts from those that are school RNs would be much appreciated. Plus, if you know if there is a significant pay difference in being certified school RN? Also, are you on the same pension plan as the teachers? Thank you in advance!

Interview for School RN this week!
These are the questions I am talking about! Of course most life threatening first. I am assuming these are meant if you were alone. I'm not sure of the best answer for these and what they are exactly looking for.

Interview for School RN this week!
Hello! I am new here and seeking some friendly/helpful advice. I have an upcoming interview for a public school RN and I know there are threads out there with "possible questions" that I have been reviewing all night. I do not necessarily have PEDs experience, although I did work in the public schools many years ago in a different role (other than RN). I also have 2 children (the oldest with medical and emotional/behavioral struggles and anaphylactic reaction to some foods). I had (1) year of cardiac floor experience, and 5 years of adult specialty experience (now more phone triage and less patient contact). I would love to make this transition into the schools but had 2 questions. 1) How important is it to have the certification (school RN). Did you find it helpful for your first school RN position? 2) A little more insight into the triage questions and solid sounding answers. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you all! (And as a mom, thank you for all that you do in the schools!!!)
