Studying for prereqs and studying for nursing school are very different. There are just not enough hours in the week to do it all so learning about different studying techniques was very helpful. Also with the study skills class we have access to EDGT which is super expensive by itself and has been extremely helpful for first semester. It's not a class that is critical to take like Physio or anatomy but it will definitely help you. Mrs Pieretti and Dr Taylor are so amazing! Dr Taylor is my clinical instructor right now and we are all so sad that we can't continue with her next semester. She is a phenomenal instructor and such a brilliant and inspirational woman. We were all saying how lucky your group is to have them both.

Yes I did. I honestly found it to be very helpful and I'm glad that I took it. It is also 2units which was very helpful since 1st semester is only 10 units so I was able to receive my full financial aid

I actually signed up for St Joseph's for ob and peds. I dont know much about the facility except that they dont have CNAs. Other than that I dont know much else. My classmates seem to like it though. I had Malloy for ADN 01 clinicals (@county) and he's so awesome. He was super nice and really helped us get acclimated to the program. I have Taylor right now (she's the clinical instructor for Sutter Tracy if Im not mistaken) and she is AMAZING. Im going to miss her so much. Unless theres another Taylor coming in it looks like she will be the ADN 02 theory instructor as well. All i can say is that yall will love her. Whoever gets her for clinicals will be super happy. I think Pieretti is the ADn 01 instructor (according to the website) and she is super sweet as well. So far my experience has been great. All the instructors are really invested in us and want to see us succeed.

I'm not sure about the alternates, sorry. As for clinicals, you will be assigned 1 patient that you are responsible for that day. In the beginning you are limited as far as what you can actually do but you will find that there is plenty to keep busy with. I usually take care of my patient and then if there isn't anything that they need to do then I usually shadow my nurse and see what she's doing. If she's just charting then I'll sit and do my charting. I try not to sit around though because I'm not learning much by sitting there. The first 2 weeks of classes will consist of lecture and 3 days of skills lab. Week 3 is when you start your clinicals. The first day of clinicals (in your 3rd week) is typically an all day orientation and the second day is when you actually get assigned a patient. has anyone registered yet?

The whites are for clinical days and SIM labs only. You also will have to buy an alternate uniform that consists of a black polo delta adn shirt and khaki pants (khaki scrub pants are acceptable) that you wear to skills labs as well as your psych rotation in 3rd semester. Most of us bought two pairs of whites so that you dont have to wash your scrubs after every clinical. As for sneakers, they seem to be pretty lenient on those although we were told differently. We have people who bought all white Nike Free Runs and nobody said anything to them. I personally went with new balance because they were less expensive than Nike's and if anything happened to them I wouldnt be too upset about it. I know how overwhelming it all is, especially when everything seems to be due all at once. Some tips for your docs: have your titers done before any vaccines so that you arent paying for anything that you dont need, student signature pages will not be due until after orientation (unless they've changed that although i doubt it), make sure you submit the lab reports along with your immunization pages so that it doesnt get rejected and make you submit it all over again, get your flu shots so that you dont have to wear a mask during clinicals (unless you'd rather not which in that case sign the declination form and submit it along with your immunization forms), sign up for the study skills class if possible - it will really help you as well as give you 2 units to make you full time because, surprise, we arent considered full time students despite all the hours we spend in school and at the hospital. I wasnt planning on taking that class but Im glad that I did because its been really helpful. It's also 2 credits which will make you full time if you are receiving financial aid. Start looking online for your books as its cheaper than the bookstore. I highly recommend the nurse's pocket guide but you might want to wait and see. We were able to download an app called nursing central that has that book as well as a drug guide and many other really helpful resources but some clinical sites dont allow you to use your phones. Sign up for amazon prime (students get a free 6 month membership) so that you get free 2 day shipping. There will be a bunch of nursing school extras that you will probably want to get and having that free shipping was super helpful for me as well.

FYI first semester is super expensive. I think i spent around $1500 on books and supplies. ATI alone is $611 so be prepared for that.

The workbook exercises in the beginning are mostly critical thinking exercises. Have you registered yet for classes? There really isnt much that you can do until you have your books and your instructor has posted the syllabus. Once your instructor posts the assigned readings get a jump on those. Also, you should plan on signing up for the study skills class (eng 33) with Ms. Marta. Its all online with the exception of 4 days which is before the semester begins. She goes over a lot of things to help prep you for the program. I saw the list of instructors for yall and im excited for you. Not sure if it will be changing prior to the semester beginning but as of right now suffice it to say that im a tiny bit jealous . Your instructors are pretty awesome.

Its very fast paced. The first few weeks will be filled with these workbook exercises that have to be completed before skills lab and lectures but those will lighten up in ADN 02. ADN 01 is mostly just the theory behind nursing and isn't too bad. ADN 02 is more meat and potatoes of nursing as we are finally getting into the systems of the body and the pathophysiology behind it all. Its much more interesting than adn 01 but the reading is even more intense. Clinicals are by far my favorite. For ADN 01 you are mostly doing CNA type work but in ADN 02 we are signed off on more skills like NG tubes, foleys, glucose sticks, trach suctioning, passing meds. Most of us still havent had the opportunity to actually perform the skills that we are signed off on but at least we are able to if necessary. The program is really intense...
