NSU Nova Southeastern ABSN Winter 2021
Sounds like you're a good candidate. Just be you. There's no right person or wrong person for nursing. We have all kinds in the program and that's a good thing. There's nothing I can prep you for besides have good self-awareness of what your motivations are and be honest. The program has to be a good fit for you also so don't be afraid to have some questions ready to ask the interviewer. As for when people are notified, some are notified immediately after the interview and others wait a week or two. There's no "it's always like this". It varies.

That’s a very respectable score and I know plenty in the program who scored around there. Just know that for Fall term you face stiffer competition, and they’re going to look at more than just that score (GPA, prior experiences, science courses and grades, character, etc.). Stay positive. All the best from a current ABSN student.

My opinion is that the cost of attending should not really be one of the top concerns (unless we're talking $45,000 or more for the entire tuition). I picked a school based on who I felt would be best in the area that was most convenient for me. If I was younger, say, early to mid 20's, I would consider the traditional program so I could work while attending and not have everything so condensed. The Accelerated program really is very intense, and if my personal situation didn't make the accelerated a must, I would go traditional. Your situation may not require you to go Accelerated. Look at that as well.

On this link, if you go to Tuition and Fees near the bottom right of the page, you'll see the breakdown of tuition (for the whole program) and other fees which are recurrent or one-time fees. https://nursing.nova.edu/ABSN/index.html I personally have already received several grants that will amount to almost half of the tuition cost. But there's also uniforms ($150-$400), needed equipment ($125-$250), immunization costs (can be expensive depending on what you need done or re-done), health insurance ($1250 every 7 full months if you're not already insured), books ($800-$1200 per semester), and then your other living costs. Tuition could be just half of the overall cost if you're renting an apartment and such.

No program is perfect. There is a lot of good and positive about Nova. The grass is not always greener on the other side, either. There are always students that are going to make a mountain out of a mole hill, or disagree with everything vehemently. Personally, I’m 95% happy with the program. That’s an A+, people. The instruction, benefits of a small campus, access to faculty, easy access to generous grants, good and clean facilities, and the nice things done for us regularly make it a good place to be. Kaplan is that other 5%. So let’s not hang the school for not being perfect.

Nothing difficult, just the double jeopardy round of Anatomy and Physiology. Kidding, just talking about you and your reasons for wanting to become a nurse, what you think nursing is all about. Don’t sweat it. Just dress and speak professionally and you’ll be fine. You should be fine if you’ve been selected to interview. Don’t stress.

Thank you, Robin. Well in my particular case I was told it would be a Kaplan test by someone at NSU. I was also, like you, told I didn’t need to study anything in advance. Right, as if I’m going to leave my future to the suggestion to not study. No, I researched a lot online, found a book or two on Amazon that I felt might help (or was recommended by others), and otherwise just informed myself as much as possible as to what others felt was most important. That said, your academic past seems to weigh more with NSU than the results of your Kaplan. Basically, if you’re selected for a Kaplan test among the applicants, and they’re paying to test you inhouse, they’re interested. Try not to give them a massive reason not to become disinterested after the Kaplan, you know? When you get accepted, follow up here and I’ll get you up to speed 100%. Good luck and give it your best!

As @Luv2learn said first, big congrats and welcome. There's a lot of hurry up and wait with paperwork sometimes, but we'll be happy to provide guidance wherever we can as some of us are a few weeks ahead with some of that. I think the facebook group is the best place to do that since it's not a public place. See you there!

Awesome. Yea, the writing was challenging. And I just realized you already got the call? Lucky duck. You didn't have to agonize over a weekend about it. Haha!
