Nurses as Consultants to EHR Vendors?
Thank you, both!. Much to think about with this great information!!! In addition to the link you provided, Angela, I had previously read through: http://www.himss.org/handouts/ni101.pdf ...Looks like similar content. I was somewhat surprised to see a downward trend for hospitals in Primary Workplace settings, although not surprised by the rise in Health Systems. Somewhat disappointed in the decrease in vendor settings. Angela, I see that you are Board Certified...aside from the what the HIMSS survey reveals, do you feel that it has helped you in terms of getting the work that you wanted, did it help in salary negotiation? Is it recognized and perceived as valuable to non-nursing personnel in HIT (especially C-level pros)? I'm thinking about sitting for the test after I fulfill the requirements (required CE's). Thanks to the both of you! -Randy Yniguez

Nurses as Consultants to EHR Vendors?
Hello, I'm curious if anyone has been approached (or if anyone has heard of nursing colleagues) to work for an electronic health record vendor? If so, in what capacity? Full-time hire, consultant, contract work? Were you asked for input into interface design (to make the system more user friendly)? Where you asked to help with implementations or workflow assessment and re-design? Also, what do you know or have heard regarding salary or compensation in these roles? If you are comfortable, what vendors (eClinicalWorks, Meditech, e-MDs, etc)? Last, if not with EHR vendors, then have you heard or know of nurses working for device manufacturers or other IT businesses (including research, analytics, etc)... and in what capacity? Just curious to read about opportunities other than hospital based nursing informatics positions. Right now, I work with small physician practices in a consulting role. Thank you so much. -Randy

UCF accelerated program in Orlando?
I'm a med/surg nurse, but work primarily on the ortho/spine unit. It's basically a med/surg unit, but ortho/spine patients get first dibs on rooms...I'm looking into other fields of nursing now (informatics, utilization review, etc)...nothing definite or choosen yet...just need to expand my horizons...hospital floor nursing is physically painful at times.

UCF accelerated program in Orlando?
Congrats to you folks on getting in. I graduated from the UCF accelerated program in 2005. It definitely was intense. But remember...the faculty and staff do not want you to fail. They will be very supportive, sympathetic, and understanding to the difficulties you will face during the program. But...you must learn to organize your time...become efficient...and simply, just do the work. The work, if I remember correctly, isn't actually hard...but there is A LOT of it. The hardest part really is getting in...a couple hundred applicants for about 40 spots, in my class...but don't dick around...there were half a dozen or so students that were dropped from the program, or "de-celerated" due to being slackers or not being able to get there personal lives in order. Good luck! Go KNIGHTS!!!

Took Nclex This Morning
I took my test on a Friday, and found out my score on a Sunday night. I felt the same way about feeling like I failed. There was not a single question that I felt confident on, and I felt like I was totally guessing all the way thru. But I passed, to my surprise. I was preparing myself mentally to take it again when I found out that I passed. I told myself that if I fail, then I'll just take it again. Many excellent nurses have taken it more than once, and your patients will likely not ask you how many times you took it. It happens to doctors, lawyers, nurses, airline pilots...you passed nursing school and your clinicals...you have the skill. Best wishes. -RY

Orlando
I know this is a few months late, but if you read this Jenn, also check out Kissimmee (especially northwest part; ie, Celebration or Kissimmee Oaks) and the areas near and around Clermont. Florida Hospital has Celebration Health, which is a gorgeous campus, and new subdivisions are popping up in this general area as well. Good access to all the major roads from here. -RY
