Needing encouragement: I think I regret being an FNP
I'm not an FNP yet, I graduate in December. But I am an active member of my NP association in Texas. Almost every meeting has someone announcing jobs and there are groups on FB for NP in this area Of Texas that routinely has job postings as well. As far as Houston goes I know a few people who live and work there and love it. I think it is a matter of networking and putting yourself out there to land a job. Even CVS or RediClinic is always hiring and while it may not be ideal it is pretty good pay and can be used as a stepping stone to something better. I would definitely recommend joining the Houston NP association as a start at least. And as others have mentioned be open to moving, even within the state of Texas, to find a better position.

am i an idiot as a new FNP to work at minute clinic
Hi do you think this would be a good job while doing a post-master's in Emergency/Trauma?

Illinois gets Full Practice Authority!!!
Texas needs to catch up! They had a bill but it was set to pending...all these other states granting full practice should make the legislation think.

New np beware
Hi was the agency in Texas? I live in Ft.Worth and I'm graduating this December so I'm trying to reach out to a few recruiters now to have a job on graduation.

New NP, take Integrated pain management job or keep looking?
Have you considered Texas? The job market here seems to be pretty stable. I haven't graduated yet but when I go to the monthly NP association meetings there are always people recruiting for jobs, especially in Dallas Fort Worth.

Franchising NPs
I'm not an NP yet (December) but I do invest in real estate and many of our friends do hold a side business of some sort. Mostly they own gas stations or Subways but their side business is operated as an absentee owner where they only physically have to be there a few hours a week if that. They will hire a manager and pay him/her hourly to run the business and then a few college students part time to fill in as staff. Some businesses for sale are specifically targeted for absentee owners for example rental properties. That's what we invest in. Once you have someone trustworthy who can manage the business it's not that much of a hassle as one would think.

So frustrated I want to cry
Thank you all for the suggestions I finally found a preceptor within an hour of where I live!

FNPs don't let me down!!! Where's the Money?
Thank you that helps a lot! I'm not set on staying in DFW if it's for a better opportunity and career. One of my friends lives in Las Cruces, NM and always tells me how nice El Paso is especially with their new Whole Foods. It's exciting that after working and studying for so long to finally be in a position by the end of the year to even have the option of building a career!

FNPs don't let me down!!! Where's the Money?
Is there generally a greater need in West Texas for providers? What are usual starting salaries there compared to other parts of Texas?

So frustrated I want to cry
No I have not tried the Typhoon sites thank you for that suggestion!! I will be going through that list today and also what you said about 100 miles I heard of a site that's about 88 miles from me so I will put aside a day for driving. Thank you all so much for the encouragement I definitely plan to be a preceptor once I am eligible myself.

So frustrated I want to cry
Yes I have tried Urgent cares and health departments but they only accept medical students not NP students. It seems I may have to end up paying for a locating service it is so sad that almost all of the schools are like this nowadays.

So frustrated I want to cry
Thanks for reading I just need to vent and wondered if anyone else felt this way. I had a preceptor lined up for pediatrics this summer but the manager called me and said they decided to stop taking students for a year. I've called and visited hundred of places, gone to NP association meetings, tried everything to find another one but all I hear is no. I just want to cry I don't know what else to do....

How to deal with a preceptor that violates HIPAA
If you had a preceptor that constantly violates HIPAA what would you do? Is there a way to report him anonymously?
