Stay-at-home mom terrified of re-entering workforce after mental health episode
Maintain your license and keep up with your CEUs. You might in a period of time become more stable and able to function. I was on disability for about 10 years before I found my way back. I wish you good luck and happiness in your future.

Stay-at-home mom terrified of re-entering workforce after mental health episode
Don't give up just because you are now disabled. Get a relief shift at a nursing home on a weekend if you still want to go back to nursing. I've been hospitalized more times than I can count. It can be done.

Stay-at-home mom terrified of re-entering workforce after mental health episode
I have gone through being a stay at home wife, a breakup of a terrible marriage and years fighting bipolar disease. I started working a couple of shifts a week at a nursing home. I eventually got a med/surg position. I tried home nursing but it wasn't for me. Just over a year ago I got a job with a leading dialysis company. I received 6 months of training and I work in an outpatient location and I love it. I would suggest to start slowly don't work overnight shifts as that can cause problems if you are on medications. You can do it!

Who says nurses can't be scholars?
Even though I may not be pursuing a higher degree in nursing I am still always working at learning more every day. Last year I accepted a job as a dialysis nurse. This is an area in which I have no experience in but the company I work for provides extensive training . I am working towards getting certified as a nephrology nurse. So at age 62 I am not stagnant just not paying thousands of dollars to receive an advanced degree.

Are There Jobs for Inexperienced RNs Besides Floor Nursing?
You could try a nursing home. You would get to know your patients. You would have great nurses aids and could find a routine that you could get used to. After a period of time you could then move onto either home nursing or in center dialysis nursing.

Anxiety following patient death
You have no control over when your patient expires. This patient had been doing poorly all day long and it was just his time. You did nothing wrong.

DIALYSIS! I am new in the field and feeling very discouraged
I would ask to shadow a nurse for part of a day. It seems like Davita at least from my experience likes that idea and you can get to see what its like in that clinic and how staff interacts with each other. I would also ask about hours and shift times. For Davita 30 or more hours is considered full time. I started in Nov 2015 and was new to dialysis but i have 20+ years of experience in varied settings.

Struggling new charge nurse
I work for DaVita and I'm confused that you started in March and concluded your training in May. I had three months PCT training with a 40 hour off site training class with an exam I had to pass. I then had another three months of training as the RN. While I might have to put on up to 4 patients first thing early in the morning I usually will only help out if needed during turnover. I may also have a 4 chair pod to take off to close the day out. I am the only nurse in the building for a 16 chair center. Fortunately in PA PCTs can access central lines and push heparin boluses as prescribed.

DIALYSIS! I am new in the field and feeling very discouraged
I am also new to dialysis. Turnover is always a bit hectic. The best you can do is to take care of one patient at a time. Just concentrate on that patient. While their site is clotting you can tear down the machine and string it for the next patient and finish all your computer unput. My training consisted of three months as a PCT ( with some nursing duties) followed by a 40 hour class off site with an exam I had to pass. The nursing was also a three month duration with a three day class for that. So I don't know what company you work for but in my geographic area this is the training mandated by DaVita. We all they to help each other during turnover so having a good staff goes a long way.
