What was your path to NP?
I started as a Medical Assistant at 18. I worked as a MA for a couple of years while going for my LPN. During the LPN I attained my CNA license and did home health and home hospice. Once getting my LPN I worked in the nursing home doing long term care, long term ventilator care, rehab and dementia care. While doing this I attained my ASN and subsequent RN. I worked in the LTAC and transitioned to critical care. At that time I worked on and attained my BSN. I immediately enrolled in and completed a MSN Leadership and Management program. I remained working in critical care but also opened a health education company. I enrolled in the AGPCNP program shortly after this. While in the program I became pregnant with my fourth child. Shortly after delivering my daughter I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had brain surgery in the middle of my program. I recovered and picked my program back up the next semester. I was also dually enrolled in a MBA program at another school. I transitioned from the ICU to Rapid Response and then to Nursing Administrator. With much perseverance I completed my MBA-HC and six months later my MSN in Primary Care Nursing Practice and passed my boards. My path took 13 years, 4 kids and one divorce. But I'm the strong and dedicated Rita RN MSN MBA AGPCNP-BC CCRN-CMC.

Maryville University PNP or FNP
I went to Maryville's online AGPCNP program and I passed my boards yesterday. The program was well structured. The tests are proctored and most of the instructors are engaging during office hours. I felt like I worked for my degree and certification. I am a proud alumni and NP.

Passed the ANCC AGPCNP
I passed my boards for the ANCC AGPCNP exam yesterday on the first try. I used the Barkley Review home study, Fitzgerald NP certification book and the Leik book on the Kindle app on my phone. I listened to the CD's non stop and made flash cards. When I made the flash cards I used all three resources together at the same time and included info from all three. This helped to eliminate incorrect information and bring the concepts together. I bought the Fitzgerald book during my second clinical rotation. The test is 200 questions. When I wasn't studying the flash cards, book or Barkley manual- I was studying the Leik book on my kindle app on my phone. I felt very prepared with these 3 resources. I would recommend visiting the ANCC website, there is a practice test. The main concept that assisted me was mastering the material and not doing question banks. When I had mastered the material I was able to answer questions with great confidence from any test bank correctly. When I sat for my boards, I prayed and prayed and prayed. I would suggest reviewing pictures of skin and eye conditions online. This helped me when answering questions from test banks and during my exam.
