Regis Univ
My niece goes to Regis and is in their BSN program. Regis definitely has one of the best programs around. From what I've heard, they graduate some of the best nurses. The great thing about Regis for kids going right from high school is that if you take all your pre-reqs there and you maintain a 3.0 GPA in your science classes, you seemlessy progress into the nursing program, meaning you don't compete against anyone, you just go right into the nursing program your junior year. Otherwise, you compete with everyone in the application process, and it's VERY competitive in Denver. The community colleges have the long wait lists, and the 4 year schools have a very touch applicaton process, and you need to have a very high GPA in the science classes to be considered. Regis is pricey though since it's a private school. I think my sister is paying around $30K a year for my niece (she lives on campus too). Good luck to you. Chrissy

?'s about Colorado
I don't know much about the Ft. Collins area either. I think it's a little cheaper than metro Denver. I live in Littleton. I love the weather here. I think the real estate market is a little more than AZ. I just paid $300 to heat my 2000 square foot house, so it's not too much better here as far as that goes. There are hospitals here that hire new grads. I know I've seen ads at Littleton and Swedish both. I know the Douglas County Schools are great schools, but I don't know about anywhere else. Hope this helps a little. Chrissy

Anyone nervous as heck about school and clinicals?
I took a CNA class a couple of years ago through ACC, and I did my hospital clinicals at Littleton Hospital. Some of the nurses were not so nice, and it actually made me question whether or not I wanted to go into the field because I didn't want to have to do the clinicals with not so nice people again. I really want to be a nurse though, so I am doing it anyway, but I am worried about my experience in clinicals again. I mean, it can really turn you off being treated so badly by people you are trying to learn from and help. I know it's annoying training sometimes, I have to do it at my current job in the IT industry, but this really worries me sometimes that some of these nurses are so fried about being understaffed and all that, that they take it out on the students. Since I did my clinicals at Littleton, I delivered my daughter there, and the nurses I had during L&D were AMAZING and very nice. I even had a student in my birth, a student from ACC, and I made very sure I was being extra nice to her as I'm sure she was nervous about the whole thing. Anyway, sorry to blabber on, I just worry about that. I know once I am done with school and get my license, I will love what I do, but I am so nervous about the process of getting there. Chrissy

Anything new on DSON?
I had no idea they were not accredited. Wow, I am so surprised. Thanks for the responses. I am just so tired of sitting on a wait list to finish my degree, especially given the fact that I only have 4 classes left for a BSN and one for the associates at ACC, which I put off taking this semester because I knew I was at least 2 years out on the wait list. The guy at ACC I spoke to said the reason there is such a wait list at all the schools is because of the clinicals. They can only have a certain amount of nurses in the hospital at a time to do their clinicals. He said they are supposed to be starting to utilize all three shifts to get the clinicals done. I think right now they only use one, maybe two shifts. He said that should start alleviating some of the wait list. Chrissy

Anything new on DSON?
I am meeting with the Director of Admissions next Friday about beginning my BSN in October of 2006. I too am very nervous about their lack of accredidation, especially given the fact that I am paying like $30K for my degree there. But, I am number 930 something on the wait list at ACC, and they are number 450 something as of today, so the chances of me getting in there before 2007 is slim to none. I know ACC has a great program and would love to go there, but I am 30, 4 pre-reqs shy of starting a BSN program and don't have the GPA to compete at Regis or CU, I wish I did. I am ready to be done with my degree and start working as a nurse. This seems like a great option for me, and I hope I am not getting my hopes up about something that sounds too good to be true. Anywa, I've seen a few threads here about this school, and there have definitely been opinions on both sides. It's been a couple of months now, so I was wondering if there has been anything with this school that might be helpful in me making my decision? I think somewhere along the way I read that they should come up for consideration for accredidation in February of 06, which is just a few months away. Is this still the case? Does anyone know how it's looking for them? Any information you have, either way, would be much appreciated.
