Compensation,work conditions
In acutes, after 8hours time and a half, then after 12hours its double time, acute dialysis is a very unstable schedule, and there may be days you only have one patient, meaning after one patient you get to go home, meaning not enough hours not enough pay. And days where you have to stay forever 3 patients or more, or 2 patients at one time. Some hospitals have dialysis unit and they can put 6 or more patients at the same time, some has pcts some don't, and we do dialysis 1:1 at patients room.

What is like working on Hemodialysis?
Hi! I'm an acute dialysis nurse. I've gotta tell you all nursing jobs have its own stressor, and dialysis nursing is not a walk in the park either. I work in different hospitals and schedule is always a mess. You work on your own and most of the time you are the only dialysis nurse in the whole building, although this may be a better fit for you because you are on your own. You still have to deal with primary nurse and other departments and they treat you like an outsider. I know your asking about dialysis nurse in the clinic, and I know a little bit about it. They say it's less stress but when I was training there before, you have to deal with the politics everyday and even on your break time you still have to deal with it. Too much patient and too much responsibility and it seems like you have to please everyone, esp your technician or else they will give you a hard time.

Acute dialysis or new grad program
Hi! Thank you for your response. We are on the same village. That's nice to know that you are happy with your job at Davita, I'm actually worried, I'm only on my 2nd week of training, not sure what to expect. Is there any advice you can give me, how to digest all this information and skills that you're suppose to do? About the ICU job you mentioned, you have a job offer. If that's the case it is really possible to get a job on the floor, some people says it's hard to get hired if you only have dialysis experience. It's even mentioned here on this thread. Thank you

Acute dialysis or new grad program
Guttercat, thank you for your response. I hear you, I am terrified too,to be out there on my own, but they have an extensive training, they won't let you do it on your own until you feel comfortable, about 6months to one year. Any nursing field is really interesting and has its own stressor but it can all be learned. So far I'm not sure exactly how it works, but what I was tol by the manager you're pretty much go to different hospital, like ICU or patients room then just do dialysis, not a patient care. Any problems that comes up you have the rapid response team, nurse assigned for that patient, etc. we all have different role for the patient and they are all important.

Acute dialysis or new grad program
Thank you msufan3710 for your response, I appreciate it. When I wrote this post, I was still working at a skilled nursing facility, got an offer at dialysis and had interview at a hospital for a Newgrad program. It turns out Newgrad program never called me back after the interview, so at this point I have no choice, I would rather be stuck at dialysis that makes good money, than be stuck with skilled nursing facility that don't pay much and be stressed out and overworked. I know it sounds bad, sounds like I'm only after the money, but in reality we have mouth to feed and at this economy and job market for Newgrad there's really not much choice, but to get the most of what you can get. I'm still not giving up, I will get as much experience as I can, then hopefully I can land in one of the hospital floors, I will just have to work hard to get there. Some gets lucky to get in to those Newgrad programs, but where I live they don't take much people. Thank you for your input! Have a wonderful evening.

Acute dialysis or new grad program
Hi nocturnallife, happy 4th, congratulations in advance. I suggest you apply anything or anyone who hires new graduates, it's tough to start. I started out at skilled nursing facility, but I never stopped applying to anything, just keep on updating your resume and keep applying while working, anything helps. I'm from California! I hope this helps. I've heard that there's more autonomy in acute dialysis, but not the same patients, you go to different hospitals. but not sure about chronic dialysis, I believe that's where you get same patient.

Hi NurseRies, BSN. Thank you for your input I really appreciate it. Glad to know you can make more money and work longer hours by choice. I am told that normally you get 2patients in one shift and its upto you if you wanna take a 3rd patient for that day. I am so excited now! Thank you so much. Happy 4th!

Davita Training and Salary In California
Hi! I am going to start my training at Davita tomorrow, pay is $38/hour, while on training for 3months or so. First week is office training, paper works and as the manager said computer stuff. The remaining weeks of training consist of going to their chronic dialysis centers and be trained on the machines. After the 3months training, pay is $40/hour. They won't let you do it alone until you feel comfortable. This is acute dialysis by the way. I hope this helps

Acute dialysis or new grad program
Hi everyone. I am a new grad and just got my license November 2015. Been working at Rehab facility for 6months and now have a job offer as an acute dialysis Rn and at the same time got accepted at a new grad program at a city hospital. Now I'm torn between the two, they both sounded really good but not sure which one I should take. They both have 3months of training. I have no clue what to expect on either one of them. Things i I am trying to consider is which one would be best in the future, which one would open more doors. which one would pay more? (I am hoping to get paid $70-80/hour someday) I hear some people get paid that much in my area please help, any informations will be truly appreciated? Need some guidance. Thank you
