  1. Here is an example of the 3.9% of male nurses in your future work place.... :)
  2. I know everyone does, but do not forget about the Coast Guard as a great option. Semper Paratus
  3. I know this is a older post but figured Id ask what you found?
  4. Hello, Some of you may have read my other posts from when I was applying / taking the Hesi exam. I finished the first semester of my 2+1 year program. Things went great. My grades were better than I thought they would of been (only because I did poorly back in 2002). Who would of thought if you actually show up and do the work you can get good grades. As a single father with 50/50 custody I'm doing this for my children, to better their lives and our total financial picture/ total life quality. That being said I have an ex-wife who does not support me going back to school (and I don't mean $$ wise). I wanted to go back to school for nursing for about 10 years and she didn't support "my stupid dream" when we were married either so this is not new news to me. The point of my post is...... there is a way....and if you are doubting it.... or others are doubting you....just keep your head up and let them think whatever they want to think or say. I'm told at least 2 times a week....how terrible a person I'am and a bad father and I should stay in my dead end....paycheck to paycheck job (by ex wife). However I know in my own head.... I'm making this happen.... I'm continuing to provide for my children and still create amazing memories with them along the way. I know I'm only one semester down but I figured if I'm in this situation I can't be alone. The future is there and its coming with or without growth.... I plan on the latter!!
  5. Well I heard from my school today. I feel very happy and kinda bummed at the same time. They did not reject me but did not accept me either. The offered a spot in the Pre Health (general ed classes) and if I can meet the required grades and a min. of 12 credits I will be guaranteed a spot in the nursing program the following year. I'm bummed because I would prefer just going to school and gaining my RN in 2 years.....This will make it 3 years.(just like everyone I have life to pay for and my 3 children to provide for) I'm excited because they saw the drive and the potential I have to be successful even with a long gap since being in school and not doing well when I was so young and dumb. :) I know this is similar to going through the CC and doing the general ed classes first. Has anyone done anything like this? What was your experience like? Any feed back you could give I would appreciate.
  6. This next month or so is going to be a month of torture. It has only been six day since taking my HESI and submitting my completed application for early acceptance. I'm already driving my self nuts with checking on the Sonis web portal to see if there is any changes (says- Level :Pre-Entry) . I need something to keep my mind off it for the next few weeks hahaha. I hope to hear either way sooner than later. They told me I would know before the end of Feb. Que the Jeopardy theme song
  7. WOW Great Scores! Congrats! Also great input on the different sections. That is what I was aiming for as far as scores but oh well! At my testing facility there was no timer or clock anywhere on the screen or even the wall. I'm lucky that I still wear a watch. It is interesting to see the difference between different tests.
  8. Aloha- I sent you a Private message I would love to discuss the program and your experiences. When ever you have a second it would be great to speak with you :) Thanks -Sean
  9. Most of the type of questions asked I outlined above. I would really recommend that you read each question more than once because they do try and trip you up on the wording. They offer plenty of time to complete the whole test. Especially if they do not require the sciences. The sciences were the hardest sections for me. Everything else came down to knowing the basics.
  10. I have taken my HESI A2 entrance, and submitted my application for early acceptance. Now it is just a waiting game. Admissions office told me I would hear by the end of Feb. I can not wait to hear either way. I will be checking everyday online to see if there is a change in my status. I will give an update!
  11. No way!!! Id love to chat with you about your experience!!
  12. So today I took my HESI A2 entrance exam. I was extremly nervous. I had been studying for about 2 months maybe a month and a half. Here is a quick review from my experience: My overall score was 88.6 (I was aiming to be in the 90s but came darn close) I had seven sections. A&P- I actually have never taken this course so all my prep was self taught. In my opinion this section was challenging. The questions were on a wide range of very detailed topics. Study study study is all I can say. Alot of this was covered in the 4th edition Hesi study guide but definitely not all of it. Biology- I had recently taken a Biology 1 class so this section was not terrible for me .....although detailed mostly was covered by the study guide. Math- All I can say is thank goodness I knew how to solve for x in ratios. Also how to change from mixed fractions. I did not get any roman numeral questions. I only got one about military time. Maybe 2-5 metric conversion questions Chemistry- It had been 14 years since I took Chem. So I focused on this section while studying. Only one question that a periodic table would of helped me answer easier. Reading Comp- This section is what it is. I've always been good with this. I did not even study for this section and got a 96. Take your time....read the question before reading the passage and you will be fine. Some of the questions were worded like a trick question so just double check the questions. Vocabulary- I got a 100 in the section. I think every word except maybe 5 were covered in the guide. Again some of the questions were worded strangely. Grammar- This section I recommend reading each question a minimum of 3 times. They sneak words into the sentences and your mind auto corrects it. As long as you reread you cant help but get the correct answers. Over all this exam was hard for me but not over the top challenging. I definitely recommend using the quizlet page, hesi pocket prep (paid) and the 4th edition Hesi study guide. Now I just have to wait till February for the early acceptance descision for my school. Feel free to ask any questions. Best of luck!!
  13. Hello everyone, The time is almost here for me. The very last item on the list before my application is complete. Man I'am nervous for tomorrow morning!! I have been studying for the last month and a half or two months. It has been 13 years since I have been in college (and thought it was for partying then). I'm really hoping to get some last minute cramming in tonight and a good nights sleep. I have been using the Hesi A2 Pocket Prep APP, and the Hesi Admission Assessment Exam Review by Elsevier (4th ed.) I also have used Quizlets flash cards. Oh and I regularly have just searched Youtube for Videos. I still feel very anxious and hope to get good scores. I will be taking 7 sections- Biology, Chemistry, A&P, Math, Reading comprehension, Grammar, and Vocab. I will give an update with my scores and my thoughts about the test in general. Wish me luck!
  14. Hello, I was wondering if anyone one else has or is planning on applying for the Fall 2017 class of nursing? I have the submitted everything and am just waiting on my transcripts to arrive. I have applied for early admission. I will also be taking the HESI exam in January. I'm very excited. I hope to hear from some other prospective classmates. Thanks, Sean
  15. That was my concern. I'm definitely open to sending it to anyone who would be willing to take a look at it and give me feed back. I just really want to get into nursing school and if there is a chance it would look like I plagiarized I do not want to risk it.
  16. I'm not sure if I should post it online before being accepted. Is that a bad idea?
  17. I did pour my heart into my essay and that what kind of scared me a bit....
  18. Hello all, I was wondering if there was anyone who has already been accepted to nursing school or who is already a RN that would be willing to read my essay. I do not want to just post it up here. Its a very simple question: Why do you want to go to nursing school. They requested 250-500 words. Mine is 434 words. I think its pretty good I'm just super nervous about getting in. Thank you in advance
  19. That is something to look into maybe. I had not though of this. My credit were all from 2002 fall and 2003 spring.
  20. Hello thank you for the reply. I have spoken with the admissions team at Maine College for Health Professionals and it was real encouraging. They do take life experience into account with admissions. I have done a lot of growing up and have the right reasons for this career change. Not only do I think I would be lucky to be accepted but I'm at the point in my life where the school would be lucky to have me. I will bring a lot of positive energy and be an advocate for the school in any way possible. I know I will be committed to my education 100%. I'm truly excited to start my journey.
  21. Hello Allnurses community. I'm 32 year old father of 3. I have 50/50 custody of my children. I'm planning on going to Maine college of Health Professionals Nursing program for fall of 2017. I have done about 10 years of research and this will be a career change for me. My question is anyone who might of had a situation like my self. I have child support, day care and life expenses. I also have access to the Post 911 GI bill which will basically pay the majority of my school costs. I did attend southern Maine Tech college back in the early 2000s and did poorly as a young and dumb 18 year old. Now I have grown up and am now ready to commit fully to school. Will my poor GPS from 2001 keep me out of nursing school? Is this even going to be possible? I mean full time school...working some how at least part time to pay for stuff....any input anyone could give me I would love to hear. I'm very passionate about making this life change. Thank you again....
