What I can suggest is look up the websites of the hospitals inn the area you are interested in. Talk to HR and ask if they have a RN residency program, most big hospitals do. In your case, since you are a foreign graduate nurse, I suggest, get your documents ready ( license, diploma, etc. My mother petitioned me to come over here. I have work experience back home so what I did was just apply randomly to any hospitals. In my opinion, if you are not picky, you'll likely to get a job sooner. The main thing is, get enough experience and then you can choose wherever you want to go.

I'm from the Philippines. It is owned by baycare if you go to the one in Bartow. Just look it up online, they have a lot of hospitals around central florida. The people there were very nice. I don't know the current situation. Baycare just bought the hospital last year and I heard that the pay rate is competitive and benefits is good.

Try checking apartmentguide.com or something similar online. There is an apartment less than a mile from Bartow Regional Medical Center in Bartow FL , level 3 hospital. I used to live in that apartment when I was working at that hospital. The old name was Ashley Glen Apartment and I think the new one is Fountain Place.The reason I moved out is because I want to be nearer to the current hospital I am working. Bartow is located between Tampa and Orlando area. It is a county seat of Polk County. I don't know what you're looking for in regards to the size of the hospital, but if you are not picky, this is the best place to start while learning how to drive. I was like you when I got here in the US. I did not know how to drive. I bought a bicycle and used it in going to work. The apartment is practically near to everything, wal-mart, publix, mcdonalds, etc.. You will not go hungry.:).. If you like the bigger cities, there is Winter Spring, Winter PArk and Altamonte ( Orlando area). Hope this helps..

I know that it is not a good idea to have your file submitted to a facility twice from different agencies for a trvel nursing position.So, how long is the wait to have your file be submitted again by another agency? What is the waiting period?Just wondering. Thank you.

In my hospital, it is mandatory unless you are allergic to it and you have to provide a medical exemption from your primary care stating the reason why.

I cook and try new recipes. Spend time with my newborn niece.:)

As a Filipino Nurse, I speak my dialect when I meet another Filipino. I get excited that at least, for a moment I can talk to somebody else from my country. It is considered pretentious/rude and not looking back at our culture if we don't speak Filipino unless they don't know how (for those who are born/grow up here). We don't talk about our patient/people/nurses but we talk about when was the last time we went home, and how are things here in the US, family, our life here as an immigrant. I do talk in English if ever I am in the patient's room or in the station and I let them know that I am talking in Filino out of respect. Most patients understand this and then I even translated it to English what we were talking about. I noticed that those nurses who mind are those who wants to know everything what is going on around the department. I work in the ED and I rarely meet any Filipino patients/ nurses in the area.

I need your opinion or advise on this. I'm trying to get my first travel contract..I applied to one of the travel agencies and I was told by a recruiter that she submitted me to this particular hospital. Every week she asks me if the nurse manager of the department called me and I told her that I will let her know as soon as I get an interview. Now,my question is, Is it ethical to call the nurse manager myself and ask for an interview? She suggested that I will do this and be discreet about it..I was even surprise when I heard this bec I thought it's her job...I already moved on actually. The other recruiters that I talked to haven't suggested this at all..

I used to work night shift at a med-surg floor and one night I forgot to waste the narcotic in the diebold but it was witnessed. I ended up having a drug screen which was negative.

Charge RNs often asked feedbacks from other RNs on how the new hires are performing in their job. They might seem not watching you but they do observe the new comers. So for her not to be given the critical patients, the charge nurse has a valid reason...

Observe, ask questions and learn..All patients are different.

Don't feel bad. You cannot remember everything. The main thing is, when you give report to the receiving nurse in the floor and you realize you forgot something, just tell them and apologize. I do that and most of them understand.. Mistakes happen and you will learn from it the next time a similar situation occurs.:)
