Hello I recently became a Hospice (RN) Case Manager. Does anyone know of a nurse getting paid by the hour (instead of salary) in hospice? I absolutely love the job, my co-workers, and my boss. My question is, does anyone know or ever heard of an RNCM getting paid by the hour? This salary stuff is for the birds. While it is the most rewarding job I have ever had, it is really taking time away from my family. I want to continue in the work and I have even talked to my boss about it. It breaks my heart to have to leave a job because the expectations are not realistic at all. I am working 60-70 hours a week. I may have to go back to a job punching a clock. Are there positions for an RNCM to be paid by the hour? That is really all I need to know. Thank you

Hi! Maybe I can help some. I am a paramedic (been in EMS for 10 years) and an RN. I just got my RN last week and yet to work in the hospital. However, cardiology is what I love. Limb leads go on the limbs. Remember - white on the right. Smoke over fire. These 4 electrodes (this is in the field-not in the hospital-although very similar) make up 3 leads- I, II, III. When the 6 chest electrodes (I am being very specific with terminology here - they are called V leads but they are not actually leads) are added to the chest you will have a total of 10 electrodes that creates 12 leads. Each LEAD has a positive electrode and a negative electrode. This creates 12 different images of the left ventricle shot from 12 different angles. Remember: SALLY. or actually, SALI Septal - V1 V2 Anterior V3 V4 Lateral V5 V6 I AVL Inferior II III AVF An MI will show up as ST elevation (unless it is an anterior MI in which case you will see ST depression). The MI must be confirmed in 2 or more contiguous leads. Sometimes you can confirm with reciprocal changes. 12 leads are not 100% diagnostic. Labs are where the confirmation comes. However, a 12 lead is an awesome tool. Hopefully this helps and does not confuse you. I was trying to be very specific in my terminology because there is a vast difference between an electrode and a lead. This may be more than you want but when you can look at a 12 lead and see a possible MI these are the things we use as paramedics. Axis deviation is also helpful but I will save that. Last thing: The reason you see ST depression rather than elevation in the anterior leads is because the artery is on the back side of the heart so the picture is actually "upside down" - so to speak. You can take your 12 lead and hold it in front of a mirror or flip it upside down and you can then see the ST elevation in V3 and V4.

Yes, it is! FREE OBSERVATION for those about to test! With this test there are few absolutes! All testing experiences are different. Me comparing my test to yours is worse than comparing apples to oranges. It is like comparing apples to fiber glass! For me PERSONALLY, it boiled down to anxiety. I think that even if someone did not do all that hot in nursing school, in most cases they can pass if they keep their anxiety level under control. You can graduate with honors, but if you can't keep it together during the test and also realize that you are going to get a lot of questions wrong, you can become nervous and spiral down so fast it will make your head spin! For me, once I got my anxiety under control (took me 10 minutes to answer the first question) I was fine. Had 75 questions, felt like I passed and I went home. Had I just started answering questions and stayed nervous I would have failed or at the least been there a whole lot longer. My friend that went at the same time had 265 questions but I think he was flipping out some. I think the anxiety was the only explanation because he had the grades. Strange experience. Advice I would give to someone: don't let not knowing a lot of the material throw you. If you don't know the answer, choose to the best of your ability, click the next button and don't drag the anxiety from the previous question to the new question. That is what I did. You may have to do it a lot more often than you want to. But realize that 15 of the questions are pilot questions and you only have to get half of the other questions correct and above the passing level. That said, you could potentially get 45 out of 75 of the questions wrong and still pass. That was hard on my mind but once I accepted that, I knocked it right out! FOCUSED on what I knew, not what I didn't know!!!

Yeah I have heard that too! I have only checked the BON website 345 times-so I have brought it down a notch!...lol. I only had 75 questions. My Kaplan readiness score was pretty good. I feel pretty good about the test which I hear is unusual so I hope I don't have a false sense of confidence. Took NCLEX yesterday. I have only checked to see if Quick Results were available 452 times! Tom Petty once said..."the waiting is the hardest part!" Only 24 hours to go. Hurry, hurry, hurry! I know you can do the PVT but I don't wanna do that nor would I rely on it. I just want to KNOW it's over so I can start a new chapter of my life!

Hello. I tested today as well. 75 questions later I was on the way home. In the words of Tom Petty "the waiting is the hardest part!" I think I passed but we will see!

YES YES YES!!!!. Biggest mistake you can make is to say "I will be X years old when I graduate if I go back to school." How old are you gonna be at that time if you don't go back to school? SAME AGE.... DO IT DO IT DO!!!!! This is coming from someone who is doing a similar thing just so you know. DO IT!

I got the answer to my question. Just in case anyone is interested there are 11 logits. The passing standard is at 0 logits. The logits range from 6 to -5. Most of the questions are written above the application level. You only will get about 50% of the questions correct regardless of whether you pass or fail. The idea is to be above 0 logits when you get your 50% correct.

I was not talking to you. Regardless of the type of relationship I think we should be kind to one another. I have simply asked a question. Dear AspiringNurseMW-As a nursing student I am sure that you were taught professionalism. Also, I am sure that you were taught communication techniques. If a patient asked the question that I asked, I am quite sure that you would not have responded this way. If a nurse (and you are a nurse) responded to me this way in a hospital setting it would have ruined the PT/nurse relationship. It also would have impeded patient care. I am asking a professional question and if you cannot respond in a professional manner please pass on replying to my post. Thank you. I am a nice guy and would gracefully accept an apology.

That makes sense. Thank you for answering the question as best as you can. It is something I want to know for reasons other than testing. I know a lot of people are tempted to write things like "you are thinking into it too much" or "you are making it to hard." I hesitated to put this post on there because I knew that was coming. I have a question that requires a little more than "the standard answer" when it comes to the difficulty levels of NCLEX (I take the test in a week). I know about the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. They are: 1. memorizing (not passing level) 2.understanding (not passing level) 3.application (PASSING level) 4.analysis (PASSING level) Using the 1-4 number system above: If I answer a level 3 (application) question, will it drop me to a level 2 (understanding) question? Or are there levels in between 2 and 3? Since you only have to get 50% of NCLEX correct it seems there would be a larger scale than 4 levels. I saw a chart in school that measured from like +6 to a -5 but not sure if it applies. In other words, there were 11 levels total with the passing level being at 0 logits. Please don't tell me I am thinking to much. I am just a very "strategic" person! LOL :) Thanks for any insight!

It is funny you mention NCSBN questions as I just found them today. I never even thought about using them. With Kaplan I still have 3 trainers to finish. My absolute lowest score has been 51 and highest has been 60 so at least I have been consistent. I am debating about pushing the test out another week but at the same time, I feel pretty confident. I know numbers don't lie but I just don't know how to gauge my readiness. I think you could prep 40 years for this test and never "feel" ready. Awesome tips! I know this post is older but I just found it. What were your Kaplan scores like when you took NXLEX and is there a fair comparison in your opinion? I am about to test in a few days.

Hello. I am a recent GN. I am slotted to take the NCLEX in less than 2 weeks. I am using Kaplan. Pretty much want to stick to that path since I am already commited. Anyone used Kaplan? How prepared did you feel? How much are Kaplan questions like NCLEX questions? If someone is scoring in the 50's on the trainers, are they ready yet? Etc etc etc. I still have the option of pushing the test out another week or two if needed.
