  1. I was actually getting ready to renew my NSO policy and was referred to Marsh by a colleague. The rate is $400 less through Marsh. I also heard of Marsh through the AACN. It's strange because none of my NP colleagues carry their own insurance, but I'm not taking any chances and feel more at-ease having my own policy. Sorry I cant add any more info.
  2. Congrats! I'm taking the AACN version in 2 weeks! Was there alot of primary care on the ANCC version?
  3. Yes, I'm in Ohio. It was just accepted by the state about 6 months ago. After using Barkley's review CDs, I'm noticing that there isn't as much critical care as I thought in - However, Barkley states that his review is valid for all certifying bodies. I think I may also review my CCRN prep book to review vents, IABP, drips, etc.
  4. Has anyone taken the AACN version of the ACNP exam?? I will be taking it in a few weeks. I've heard it's alot like the CCRN exam? Can anyone give me any input? THanks
  5. I've read other posts regarding primary care NPs carrying their own malpractice insurance. However, if I'm working in an ICU at a large teaching hospital, would it be wise to carry my own insurance? Of course, the hospital says that I am "covered" by their policy and that few of their NPs carry their own policy. I am still leaning toward spending the extra $ for my own policy. Any thoughts?
  6. I have my first NP job interview this week. Is it appropriate to put my undergrad. and graduate GPA on my resume? I had a 3.6 and 3.8. Thanks
  7. Thanks for the post. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of PRN NP jobs?? What about not working as an NP for a few years.... will it be difficult to get back into the job market after not working for a few years to raise a family?? I feel like I want it all.... education, career, and family. I just hope it's possible. Thanks
  8. Hello guys, I will be starting an ACNP program this Fall. I"ve been a critical care RN for 3 years and am married with no children. Im in Cleveland and have searched local ACNP jobs and almost all of them are full-time. Very few are part-time and there are no PRN jobs at all. Once I graduate in 1 1/2 year, I'd like to start a family. My question is, how does an ACNP balance having a baby, raising kids, and work at the same time???? I dont want to stick my kid in daycare for 2-3 days per week if possible. It seems that a bedside RN job is more appealing to working moms. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ~Casealum
  9. Thanks Pinoy for the response . I was/am also in teh same boat regarding ACNP vs CRNA. I ultimately chose ACNP because I didnt think I'd be happy in the CRNA role. I initially applied to CRNA school, was wait-listed, then accepted - I turned down the offer and now i'm in the ACNP program. Though the money is good for CRNA, the malpracitce is also very high. Here in Ohio they pay $9,000 / year for malpracitce!!! SPeaking of malpractice, while I want more autonomy / responsibility, I am afraid of being lumped in with physicians and malpracitce suits. I guess you have to realize that anyone in any profession can be named in a lawsuit. Can anyone comment on the rates of NP malpractice suits? While I feel I am a competent RN, being sued is one of my worst fears.
  10. Fairview just hired 19 new grads in L&D!!!!!!!!! I know this for a fact - I know one of the nurses hired
  11. I'm an alternate at Case. I got the letter about 5 weeks ago. They only accept 23 students. I have no idea where I am "in line " to be called. I considered emailing the program director to see when the deadline for the accepted students fees is. My future is hanging in the balance:(
  12. That would be crazy - starting CRNA school after the program has already started!!! I would have to give my 2 weeks notice at work to go PRN. Does anyone know when Case's "acceptance" deadline is? I should just email them. I hate how my future is uncertain!
  13. How long did you have to wait from the time you were notified you were an alternate to the time you got "the call" or "the letter"? This waiting is killing me. My future is hanging in the balance....
  14. yea, that's ridiculous. It's not worth it at that point. And having to quit your job or go PRN - you need to give them 2 weeks notice for that.
  15. I did not apply to any other schools. As you can see by my user name, I went to Case for undergrad. If I do not get in this time, I will reinterview in the Fall, but I may consider applying to Akron. I can't relocate due to husband's local business. So basically, Akron and Case are my only options. Can anyone give me a description of what exactly an "alternate " is? Do I still have a shot? Do alternates get in??
  16. I got a letter today stating I am an alternate for this Fall's class. I guess if a spot becomes available, then it could be mine. If a spot for this Fall's does not become available, then I can automatically be reconsidered for Fall 2007's class. How aggravating. Anyone else in a similar situation?
  17. Does anyone know the starting salary at CCF?? Thanks
  18. Anyone else anxiously awaiting "the letter"?? I interviewed at Case almost 2 weeks ago. I dont know if it's good or bad that I haven't heard back yet. Anyone else in my boat?? ~Jeanine
  19. Just thought maybe some of you were wondering how my interview went at Case. Well, they asked the standard questions "why are you here? why do you want to be a CRNA? Why Case?" They tend to focus on your weakness, in my case, my perceived lack of experience - I have been an RN in an ICU since last August and will have 2 full years experience by the time class starts. THey asked 2 clinical questions - one related to questioning a bad order from a doc. The other was, what would you do if you made this particular med error. They asked what types of patients I take care of and what drips we use. I imagined myself leaving the interview in tears, but I walked out with a smile and thanked them for the interview. I have a good feeling, but we'll see if I get that admission letter. They also wanted to know what I knew about the program, and I stated that I knew it required most of my time, the hardest work I've ever had to do, and alot of determination. I told them I was in a good point in my life, where I'm motivated and have no children, and this is something I want to accomplish now. I have heard last year there were over 200 applicants, they interview 70 , and accepted 26 or so. Good luck to those who are interviewing! ~Jeanine
  20. Anyone have any advice for the Case interview?? They have only scheduled the applicants 40 minutes apart - far cry from what I hear Akron's interview is like. ~Jeanine, RN, BSN, CWRU '04
