crushing meds, best foods to disguise taste
How very kind of you to help your friend in a practical way during this difficult time. Even if she doesn't always listen to you and displays a poor readiness to learn, I'll bet that she will gratefully remember your effort to guide them through this ordeal after her mom is gone. Just a thought I had from your mention of very health-conscious kids-- If they are "anti-refined sugar" folks or "anti-artificial sweetener" folks, there's some chance that they may still be willing to give her something perceived as more "natural," such as honey or maple syrup. The taste change could definitely be an issue if you just mixed it straight, but there are options with this, such as some jams/jellies that are sweetened with honey instead of sugar.

study abroad? (I know, I know....)
Hello everyone, I know....I am already aware of just how ridiculous it is considered to attempt studying abroad while in a US nursing program. But I thought that I would put some "feelers" out to get a better sense of what might be possible! Has anyone studied abroad as an undergraduate nursing student for just one semester? Or is there a possibility of doing so more professionally while in graduate school (even research opportunities/volunteering as an RN short-term)? I am pretty game for just about any country with English-speaking or Spanish-speaking schools. Anecdotes of experience and info appreciated!

life support and ethics
Hello! Thoughts and opinions desired: preparing for an extensive philosophy project on end-of-life care and life support legal aspects... What is an ethical dilemma you have ever faced as a nurse regarding these subjects? Did you ever find that the law "worked against" you as a nurse? Tangent: My nursing professor tells a story of years ago when she had very well-off patient apparently alone at the hospital with a presumably very sizeable inheritance to leave behind. The patient stated that if he coded he wanted "everything done." The nurse overheard this statement. Later, the patient coded, and was started on life support clearly unconscious and incompetent. Suddenly the family showed up and asked for the machines to be turned off. Physician told nurse to turn machines off. Nurse told physician of patient's expressed wishes. Physician insisted on nurse following orders from wishes of the family. What would you have done?

Feeling like I'm doing everything wrong lately
Although I am not a school nurse, please be encouraged that you did the right thing. Nothing in this situation was your fault! Even though you're "feeling like I'm doing everything wrong lately" it sounds as though you gave us a list of things that you were simply supposed to do. And that fact that someone isn't pleased with you doesn't mean you did a bad job. Keep pushing, you got this. :)
