Anyone taking a summer class?
What is your work schedule for those days? You have to manage your time better. At the job I used to work at before I quit about a day ago, I used to have nights and had to close the store (4pm-9pm) So I would study in the mornings. But then I took on another job at the same time I was juggling my night job and had to really manage my time. So if I had an exam coming up next week I would give myself an 1-2 hours a day for study and homework. In your case, you may have to pull an all nighters to get that done on time or if I'm not mistaken, today is Friday where I live. So do you work Friday and Sunday where you will have Saturday off?

Can traffic tickets prevent you from becoming a nurse?
I have 2 red light violation tickets because I "failed to stop at a red light". When in truth, both of those tickets were from a 'right turn on red' and It never occurred to me that you had to stop completely before turning at a red light even when their is no traffic. (I have only been driving for about 1 month now). But now I know this. My first ticket was unpaid and occurred a late fee because my mom told me she was going to pay it but she "forgot". And for my recent ticket, I am paying for it myself because I no longer trust anyone to pay it for me. However, I am now afraid of getting a speeding ticket because the road I drive on everyday to get to work at a speed limit about 40-45 mph (there was no posted speed limit at the time), now has a posted speed limit of 30 mph because of road construction which claims to be photo enforced if not folllowed. That fine would be $375. And I believe that sign has been there since construction has been going on for a while now, and I only just spotted that (shameful I know). So I might have been speeding every single time I went on that road. Then on top of that, I was so afraid of not going the correct speed limit on that road that I did a rolling stop at the stop sign (more like slowed my speed a little bit) and went right through it and I'm pretty sure the cameras saw that one. So the question is...will all this affect me from becoming a nurse? I swear that I do not purposely try to disobey the law and I'm still learning how to drive as I just received my license a month 1/2 ago.

Where did you go get your background check for nursing school?
Trust me I tried. I Waited there for 3 1/2 for them to only tell me that they don't expunge juvenile records there and I head to go to some place that they reccomended me to, who in turn said I need to obtain my arrest records to get them expunged which no once seems to want to give them to me. Which sucks.

Where did you go get your background check for nursing school?
I'm trying to expunge it before I have to go through it with the school. :/

Where did you go get your background check for nursing school?
I went to my police department and they don't give them out and then I went to the head Chicago police department and since I don't live in that county anymore they won't give it out. So I'm legit wondering where everyone else go to get their background check for nursing school?

Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
Yes, why was it wrong to do that??

94 or higher is an A?
I guess I was so shocked by this because a 90 was always an A for me in school. And in some cases an 86 or higher was an A for when I was taking my hardest science classes. So I truly never actually thought that a 94 could be consider an A.

Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
So I just talked to the program's director of nursing (I emailed her) and she said that they made changes this year and they don't plan on losing their accreditation. She also said they are working on getting off of probation this year and the next.

Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
Lol I have no clue.

which school has a good nursing program!!
Sorry I was talking about PVAMU not TMU. And I only know the school because of their vet program but I can only assume they have a stellar nursing program since their admissions are so competitive.

Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
This is all true. But the reality of the situation is UIC is really I'm the top 10 for nursing programs. I was shocked myself when I found out their NCLEX pass rates but it doesn't seem to stop that ambitious pre-nursing student from applying. Also the the nursing school I was trying to apply for has 24 accreditations both regional and national and they boast their students being the preferred candidates for job hires. So I called a hospital that was located 50 miles from the school (not one of their clinical sites as I seen the lists) and they said they do prefer BSN students from this school because of their good reputation. And honestly I'm very confused about the situation and why they can't keep their passing rate up as it was a 100% in 2011 and 92% in 2013. Should I call the nursing school and ask what steps they are taking to fix this situation?

94 or higher is an A?
Actually I just rechecked the pass rates to make sure and that was the year before that passing rate when 111 students passed. In 2015, 147 students were admitted and only 107 passed. Which is really bad.

94 or higher is an A?
Wow only 9???
-
which school has a good nursing program!!
My friend goes to PVAMU and it is known for being one of the top HBCU colleges. But I heard the nursing program there is terrible and I hear a lot of people don't recommend it. I have no clue about the other universities so good luck finding a school! PVAMU=Prairie View A&M University in Texas

94 or higher is an A?
You make a pretty good point and I understand where you're coming from. And it's true they do have sosome pretty lax standards. And they admit 130 students each year and usually it seems that only 111 students be surviving and gets to graduate.

94 or higher is an A?
Wow I really did not know the majority of nursing schools has a similar grading scale like this. And it makes wonder how some Allnurses members can keep a 4.0 in nursing school.

94 or higher is an A?
I find this really annoying that the school I want to go to has considered a 94 or higher to be an A. And after talking to some of the Alumni I have found out that this program is really strict and you need an 82% to pass a class (they base their classes on a pass/fail). This is so crazy and no wonder they have such a low passing rate. Not only that but this program have had this grading scale since 2008 and I can't believe they haven't thought to change it yet to increase their passing rate?? Does anybody else have to do deal with this in their nursing program?

Switching My Major?
I 100% agree with this. Going into professional careers like this is never an easy way out and you may just have to work 10x as harder for it. Especially if you GPA is not up to par. I would suggest that if nursing is what you really want to do then you shouldn't wait that extra 2.5 years to graduate with a major in biology. The best time to switch your major is now and go after what you want. Take some extra classes to see if you can bring your GPA up and don't just apply to one program because it will increase your chances of getting accepted.

Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
I guess that's just the thinking here in Illinois because it's the best program in the state. But granted it still ranks top 10 in the country for it to have some low scores though.

Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) people would cut off an arm or a leg to get into that program and I live in Chicago Edit: Search UIC nursing program ranked #1
-
Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
I'm now looking at the nursing program that was ranked #1 in the country and yet they have a 75% pass rate that was also 68% the year before that. But I know they could afford to keep their title lol. I could apply there and you need a 3.5 or higher to get in with a good resume and recommendations.

Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
So I just did some more research and it says this nursing school has been on probation for 2 years!
-
Nursing School on 2nd year probation?
The nursing school that I will be applying to has a NCLEX pass rate of 73% (2015). But the problem is since 2011 the pass rate has been dropping down to 4-7 points yearly. So who knows how low it will be before I try to start in 2017. Should this be a red flag? It's a private for non-profit nursing school since the 1960s and they are accredited. Edit: I looked into the nursing school a little more and I found out that this program is on their 2nd year probation.

Microbiology in the summer!?
I am taking MB too over the summer but I am working part time. However, I think if you just show up to class on time everyday, take notes during lecture, and review the chapter before/after class and then you should be fine.
