Air Lock
Hi, I'm a nursing student and am a little confused about creating an air lock? Why is it necessary? So I take medication from the vial and draw up extra air after that? I don't automatically invert the syringe, correct? I keep the syringe and the needle upright after? After what period of time can I give the injection to make sure the air hasn't been displaced?

What number did you say you were again? They did take a lot of people off the waitlist but it's different every semester. A lot of people ended up not showing at ours. Also, I'll be selling my pharm book for first semester. Make sure you all brush up on the med math. There's a lot esp for pharm. They retest it every semester

That's really hard to say. You def should not be working full time. I worked three jobs all part time and got really good grades but that being said there were people who worked part time or even had no job and struggled

Los angeles pierce college Rn program for fall 2017
14 is a good number but it just means 14 people would have to drop or not show up for orientation. I think we started off with 42 ish people and now we have 37. You might be lucky :)

Los angeles pierce college Rn program for fall 2017
We have Christmas off. It follows the schools calendar as far as breaks go. For the Lvn program the classes you will be taking are different. You will def be taking psychiatric nursing and med surge 3 but I'm not sure what else. The classes are split up for you guys. First semester usually takes gerontology, pharmacology, psych, and adult health 1. Second semester is adult health 2 and psychiatric nursing

I believe they usually call. It's by whoever is next in line for the spot by number.

Los angeles pierce college Rn program for fall 2017
Yes, they will. When I went to orientation there people who didn't show up and they gave their spots away. However, if you have a number greater than 15 on the waiting list I wouldn't count on getting a spot. There are only a specific number of hospitals that take students. There are so many schools with nursing students that it's hard to get spots for everyone. In my first semester, our class barely got a contract with west hills. Some of the hospitals are also pretty far away. Burbank, Mission Hills etc. Thye don't let you chose the hospitals you get assigned to either. You are generally there for your first semester from 630 am till 3 pm Thursday's and fridays

a lot of schools that are top notch don't have NLN accreditation, even Mt St Mary's doesn't. In fact, only one school in California is NLN accredited. I know tons of new grads from other schools too that already have jobs

Really? I'm already in the program. I've met tons of meet at hospitals who are Pierce graduates. Students who don't eventually go on to get a Bachelor's do have trouble getting jobs

You do have to pay for a parking pass though, but I mean you can always park in front of the school and walk. They are super strict about it and will ticket anyone not displaying a pass.

Depends on the instructor. Some of them, I won't give names are really bad about emailing people or clarifying instructions. Pierce is really close to my house, plus the cost of the program is cheap when you compare it to other schools. I feel like they're preparing us really well for the NCLEX. All of my classmates are super friendly/helpful.

Really really tough. We have exams once a week. For your first semester, you will be taking 4 class. Adult Health Care, Psych, Geriatric Nursing, and Pharmacology. We are the first class to use the ebook system, which was way overpriced if you ask me. The ebook system doesn't include physical textbooks, so you'll have to purchase those sep if you want them. We have two classes on Mon and two classes on Wed. Clinicals are Thursday and Friday. It's a tremendous amount of work, just emphasizing that again. Classes start at 8 am on Monday and 9 am on Wed. 630 am start for clinicals, which means if you have to commute to the Burbank location, you're up early. I live in Calabasas and they assigned me St Joe's, so it's totally random and they do not assign you based off your location and you can't ask. They are very very strict on tardiness and being absent.
