  1. I have a BS in Biology and Psychology and currently looking at the DO route as opposed to the MD route as I really like the more holistic, wholebody approach. I have not applied to Medical School, I plan on doing so next year. I have done ALOT of research on this though and know the logisitics of the application process as well as the amount of time overall it will take to finish medical school. It is definitely a bigger commitment as far as time goes if you are just satifised with being a Nurse and not an NP. If you are looking into the NP route like I was consider that many of these direct entry MSN programs are just getting you a generalist MSN with an RN, tac on an extra 2-4 years for NP education and the experience that will be required to get into the program. At the end of the day I am guessing 5-7 years to go from MSN direct entry to NP (thats the MSN/RN degree + work experience + the NP education). Medical school is 4 years + speciality. In my opinion (at least from my prospective) if you want to be a provider, these routes are similar in length for those of us who do not have a BSN. I am about to begin studying for the MCAT and getting back into volunteering if I can find the time to do so around my FT work schedule. If you have any questions feel free to PM me :)
  2. I actually got a rejection letter not too long ago. It actually worked out well for me, as alot of soul searching and thinking has made me realize that my passion lies more in being a Physician rather than a nurse. For me, spending approximately 2/3rds what it would cost to go to medical school was another really big drawback to the program. To those who have applied and who were already accepted, I wish you the best of luck! Who knows, maybe one day our paths will cross again :)
  3. I am looking into this. The only dilemma is they require 2 nursing courses as pre-reqs (like, seriously??? I don't understand this, but anyway)... I maxed out UG loans so this is no longer looking like a good option for me. Anyone who has experience with the program who can chime in?
  4. You all got this! Goodluck!
  5. She said something about hoping to start with decisions within the next 6 weeks. I voiced my concern with a couple of things and she was very upfront and honest with her answer which I really appreciated. Interview was pretty laidback I felt like
  6. I already had mine today. I thought it went well. The timer was in the lower right hand side and you should've also gotten a 2 minute warning. Writing a good essay is extremely hard for me to do in 30 minutes, but I think I winged it pretty well. I felt like the interview went well but its really anyones guess. The program director was very upfront and honest and also very nice which I really liked.
  7. I managed to squeeze out 5 short paragraphs. It seemed as if the big thing was showing that you know how to write a proper essay, etc. My wording at the end kind of sucked because I started to panick and rush at the 2 minute mark.
  8. Got an interview invite as well, which I will be doing via Skype. Super excited and very hopeful!! UMD is a great school with a fantastic reputation
  9. I am very nervous myself as I have a good graduating GPA but a poor overall GPA due to previous school policys with withdrawing. This program looks awesome and although expensive, definitely looks like its worth the money! Goodluck to all!
  10. Best of luck! I believe I read that they will start reviewing on June 15th... I already have my application in and ready for review :).
  11. Could anyone tell me what the total cost is for OOS residents from experience? I have ran some calculations and it seems astronomically high?!
  12. Hello! I was just curious, how much total has the program costed for OOS residents? I ran a quick calculation and looks to be around 80k tuition for the program??!? Is this correct? If we cannot work whille in the program, I would assume tacing on another 40k for living expenses/books/etc??!
  13. Hey everyone! Just got confirmation that my application is complete and ready to roll for the UMD CNL Spring 2017 application term. Anyone else on here applying?
  14. Yeah, well I volunteer as a Dental Assistant, different in many ways but also similar in many ways, and I get some fantastic patient interactions that is really hard to beat. It is really hard for me to gather alot of hours of shadowing as I work fulltime Mon-Fri hourly, so everyday that I have to miss takes a bite out of my paycheck. I just got back from shadowing A family physician and nurses at the place I volunteer it, and it was INCREDIBLE! Everything I dreamed of and more... My graduating GPA was pretty good, but I am not sure how it will turn out when all my grades are calculated together (I went to multiple schools, and my graduating one does replace grades so it won't be the same). However, I have some really good ECs as far as clubs and volunteering for my school, so I hope that can allow my app to outshine some of the minuses. Sam is right, UAB requires you to go through NursingCAS. I have almost all my information filled out and will be applying soon so that I know if I can exempt the GRE or not. Also keep in mind, there are quite a few schools out there that aren't using the NursingCAS that does have the MSN Direct Entry. If I have to take the GRE, I will probably expand my list to include Vanderbilt, but UAB is at the top of my list because they offer the specialities I am really interested in (Oncology and Psychiatry), which I plan to pick one, finish the program, and then get a FNP while I work because I think either of these options (FNP Onc or FNP Psych) would pair really well together and allow me to provide the best care to my patients. Best of luck to everyone!
  15. vgjj, I am interested to hear the outcome? Were you able to get in with the shadowing mentioned? I am in the same boat as you... I have been under care of NPs in the past and found that they were better providers than the majority of the Physicians I have been to. I know for sure this is what I want to do, but am nervous about the shadowing requirements!
