  1. I just now noticed I got a pm from someone asking about Colorado licensure. I cant respond because i havent posted enough. I would recommend calling the BON to any stare to ask them if they can provide any input about your situation. I should also mention the job outlook is tough in colorado especially for new grads unless youre willing to work in the rural corners of the state, pediatric home health (offers no benefits and $25/hour, or prison, which is hard to get into with a record.) I really recommend WA. They are very progressive and forgiving. There are a lot of jobs out here starting at $30/hour with benefits. Good luck
  2. I applied to CO by endorsement and received another unrestricted license. I did everything the same. It asked for a description of what happened and I inserted my essay into that box. I attached a letter of recommendation, although it didn't ask for one. Good luck to everyone. If anyone wants advice on their letter of explanation, feel free to pm me.
  3. Hi everyone, I have 3 arrests. 2009, driving with suspended license, no registration, no insurance. 2009, speeding 30 over and posssesión of less than 1 g of marijuana. 2011, possession again and no registration. I submitted an essay, recommendation letter from teacher, and all certified court documents. I stated in my letter that although i was immature when I was younger, there was no excuse for my lack of responsibility and disrespect for laws, and that I understand being a nurse is a serious responsibility. I received my att in less than 2 weeks. I am now just waiting for my fingerprints to clear because i am out of state. My license is listed as pending with no enforcement action. They were very kind in emails and over the phone and very punctual. I want to wish everyone good luck who is going through this stressful situation and offer hope. I also want to share my experience of doing volunteer work. I didn't think I had time to do it during school so I waited until after graduation. I really wish I had started sooner. I go to nursing homes with my toddler and visit the residents. I called ahead to make sure it was ok to do this without having a family member of my own there. It's a great experience for everyone, and my son has a great time there. I bring some of his toys and he gets bored and whiney after about 45 minutes so it's not a huge time commitment at all. It's a great way to add to your letter of explanation, resume, and get a reference from the activity coordinator. It has helped me cope with depression, too, which hit me really hard after I graduated and had nothing to do but wait to see what was going to happen to me with all of these arrests on my record. Good luck again to everyone!
  4. Call the BON Monday morning, ask what you we're supposed to do and explain the situation. They may be able to let you amend the application or start a new one if need be. I know its scary but in my experience they are very nice over the phone. What state are you in?
  5. I am almost ready to submit my application for RN license. I'm living in Georgia where I have collected a record of being arrested three times: once for driving without registration or insurance or a license, and twice for possession of marijuana, five and seven years ago. All charges were dropped and expunged, except for the driving without registration, because I did community service as part of a pretrial diversion program. I'm ready to get out of Georgia. I'm from Colorado and would like to go back there. I was also interested in going to Washington State. However, it would be much easier to get a job in Georgia, as I have done some networking during my time here... I contacted lawyers from all three of these states and only one got back to me, from Washington State. He said it was very easy to get a license in Washington and that I really didn't need a lawyer - just submit my application with a letter of explanation, certified court documents, and letters of recommendation. I'm very, very nervous. I could submit my application to WA, and hopefully I would get it, and then use that as a back up if I don't get a license somewhere else. Or, it could backfire, I could get a probationary license, and then have another box where I have to click "yes" when I fill out applications for licenses when it asks about having a restricted license in another state. I know my best course of action is to call all the BONs and ask them what they think my chances are of getting a license without probation. I'm scared to death, but will make those calls this week. I will continue to update about my story. If anyone has any experiences or words of encouragement, please share. I feel so anxious and depressed.
