Thanks for doing this! 1)Quick question about Masters Degrees vs. DNP. I had heard that CRNA's with Master's Degrees will be grandfathered in do you think this is accurate to assume. What are the benefits of doing a DNP over a Masters besides obvious cost/time? 2) I spent 2 years in ICU/TCU we opened up the Transitional Care Unit in my hospital and trained with ICU nurses. Then I went to PACU and Infusion. Do you think they will care how long ago the experience was? I have seen a few programs with requirements being within the last 2 years etc.? Good luck to you!

I attended an accelerated program that was 1.5 years no summer breaks just go straight thru it's grueling but since I already had my BS in Nutrition and knew I wanted to start working soon that it what I did and worked out great for me. I will say however plan financially. I was lucky enough to not have to work and I truly think this was a great advantage. A small percentage of people did work but very few actually made it to graduation on time....

Hello I am still a new grad. Graduated May 2016 but working in Transitional Care Unit. I'm hoping to be moved to ICU soon because they are short staffed but was wondering chances of getting into CRNA school with just TCU experience? (@ my hospital is considered intensive care). I had planned to work 5 years because I'm from OK and we have no current CRNA school in state and I don't really want to leave my fiancé for 2-3 years lol.

I currently work in TCU and am a new grad since May 2016. The way our TCU is utilized to offset the "cost" of ICU or so the rumor has it. I work on a 12 bed unit. My patient ratios vary from 3-4 and we sometimes have a tech from 11-11. We are having somewhat of a staffing issue people leaving and not getting people hired plus the whole 3 mo orientation (extra body but can't really do anything). I'm trying to stick it out a year out a year but am worried maybe this specialty just isn't for me. I had originally had a focus on CRNA in the future but due to the ICU experience not sure just how plausible that is. I have floated to ICU and enjoy it. Does anyone happen to know if CRNA schools do accept TCU experience?

CanadianRN16: Yes, I'll be on nights probably till I'm able to move to days. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper. Just to clarify you take your meds prior to getting to work or like just right before your shift starts? Thanks for the advice it's much appreciated! I have never been a night owl and am nervous about this plus being the new kid on the block!

HELP! I am a new grad starting on nights....HOWEVER I'm a Type I Diabetic and have ALWAYS been a morning person! I have no fear about adjusting with my insulin pump but am more worried about completely switching my sleep schedule and how manage it on my days off. I plan to try to do 3 shifts in a row so I will have 4 days off. I also have ADHD and am worried about taking my meds. Any tips on adjusting?

Thank you! I actually did accept an ER position instead of ICU even though I was offered both I'm hoping to maybe be able to float up there. Critical clinicals were our last ones and I loved ICU but when I got to ER I loved it too. The nurses were what made my decision for me you spending 36 hours a week with these people and they felt like family to me.

Hello! I am a new nurse will be graduating this MAY 2016! I am lucky enough to have the problem of multiple offers. I have worked in the medical field before as a surgical tech, CNA, phlebotomist, and receptionist. My priorities when seeking out a job were teamwork, options for learning opportunities, and a boss I don't hate. I eventually want to go back to CRNA school but have decided I need to work in either the ICU or ER to strengthen my application for CRNA school and to pay off some loans. Nursing is my 2nd degree. My dilemma is that I love the ER the RNs and basically everything BUT I know most CRNA schools arrant willing to accept ER experience and prefer ICU. Any suggestions as to what to do? THANKS! TORN :/
