  1. Thank you for a clearer explanation! That all makes a lot more sense now. As far as I know, the patient only notified the hospital where this happened. I don't think she filed any formal complaint.
  2. Grey's Anatomy are super soft and cute, too!! I second that they run small though. I usually wear xsmall petite scrub pants and I wear their regular smalls! I'd say definitely try them on! I've made the mistake of ordering them online without ever trying them on
  3. I'm a pre-nursing student so I haven't learned much about HIPAA yet aside from research on my own personal time. I have a question about penalties for something that happened recently. My cousin goes to the doctor at a hospital for primary care. Her ex-boyfriend's (he is also my cousin's child's father) new girlfriend is a nurse in the same hospital, but she works in a different department. Recently, this nurse accessed my cousin's patient information. She told the ex that my cousin is a patient there and also a medicine she's prescribed regularly. The nurse was suspended, but that's all. She wasn't fined or anything else. I've heard stories of nurses and other healthcare professionals getting terminated just looking at other patients' files! This girl gave out a patients' information and accessed it when she did not care for this patient. Is suspension actually a normal penalty for this scenario? Is there a standard penalty or does it vary between hospitals? If there's a standard, what would it be for this?
  4. I'm juuuuust about to start pre-nursing within the next month! I'm getting those pre-reqs done at RPCC. Nursing school is at least a year away, but I've been weighing my options of nursing schools so I'll be prepared! I plan on applying to a few when the times comes. So far, my top consideration is LSUHSC in New Orleans. I'm pretty dead set on that being my first choice. Only downside for me is I'm closer to Baton Rouge, but I'd either move or make it work. (As a side question, has anyone had a long commute to college? 30+ minutes? Was it easy to look past if you enjoyed your program?) I'll mostlikely also apply to Our Lady of the Lake College. A lot of people I graduated high school with go there, but I haven't gotten many personal opinions of the school (I don't keep in touch with them). I haven't heard much specifically about Southeastern or Nicholls, although I'd for sure consider them. I know I'm missing some schools, please add them and tell me what you've heard about their programs, as well as the ones I named! If you've attended nursing school in South Louisiana, tell me about your experience! Thanks in advance, everyone! I'm very excited about nursing and love to discuss future plans for it (mine and others')!
  5. Thank y'all so much! I'm going to look into it soon :) I just didn't want to go in blind, ya know? I'm so excited!
  6. I'm 21, married, and about to start pre-nursing classes next semester. Right now I work at an occupational med clinic as a tech, so I've gotten some very basic experience in vitals, toxicology, etc. I really enjoy where I work as a start, but it has set hours Monday-Friday, so I won't be able to work there once I get into nursing school. I may even have trouble in pre-nursing not being able to always schedule night classes. So my question is, what's a job with at least decent pay that usually works well with nursing school? Something to live off of and with flexible hours. Something with experience would be a huge plus, but I'm open to anything! My husband is also a student, but has an internship/job through his school, so he's guaranteed a job till graduation (and will of course get a job with his degree after). I need something that would pay at least $10 an hour (more would be awesome). Any suggestions? I heard being a CNA is a good start, but what training and all would that require? Thanks in advance!
