University of Pennsylvania FNP Applicants 2016
Hey Jessie! Congrats on your acceptance!! You are able to take the research class at a different point in the plan of study. The plan of study just first needs to be revised from the program director. At least the research will be out of the way when you take it in the summer! I'm an hour outside of Philly. How far are you from the Philly area?

That was my concern too. Trying to start classes but not graduating yet. I would sign off on the plan of study because it did say at the bottom that changes can be made. I signed off on mine and am now trying to contact somebody for help getting the plan of study changed. No department like to answer the phone apparently lol. I contacted the generic advisor email I found on this page for accepted masters nursing students online and we have to get in contact with program director of the program. I emailed her too but have not gotten a response back yet. It's has been difficult to get in contact with somebody.

No problem! I hoping to stay in touch with you both too!! I hope some more people reply to this thread as well since we all will be in all the same classes throughout the program. My acceptance was part time too just like yours. Apparently you don't have to take the research course in the summer. The advisor told me that it can be changed in the plan of study.

@pammiexpeace I have read mixed reviews too about the program, but people I have been talking to have said it's a great program, even though it's difficult, but it will prepare you a lot. I'm just going to believe the positive comments I've been hearing from people now lol. I have not heard anything else about the program, and I wish there was more information about what classes are like and what to expect. But all I have found are course descriptions really and graduate organizations that are offered at Penn.

@mar188 I still have to sign off on my plan of study. I never knew about the summer course until I saw the plan of study. I thought the program fully started in the fall. I got in contact with an advisor because the course conflicts with the spring semester since school is still in session, and she told me that the plan of study can be revised with the program director if you don't want to take it in the summer. Also, it's not offered in the second summer session. I wish there was a way to talk outside of this site too because I have so many questions too! The acceptance has caused a lot of questions because there is so much to figure out!

Hopefully it does come sooner than expected! I think every person coming into the FNP program has to take the class because my BSN curriculum also had a research component. I did not know before hand though that we would have to take this course in the summer. I thought the whole program started in the fall.

It was a lengthy application process. It consumed most of my winter break lol. I hope you hear back soon!! Hopefully by mid April the latest because of the summer research course status in May then you'll need time to register and get set up in Penn's system.

@mar188 Congrats on your acceptance!!! I have to do the research course this summer too. Did you get PennKey information? When I made one there is a new portal where you can sign in and get a lot of information. It says that we are supposed to contact the program advisor before registering. I emailed the general advisor email but haven't heard back yet. Did you sign off on your plan of study yet and if you did, did you receive any information in an email?

Your stats are really good! I still think you have a leg up since you have more health related experience. Plus, you did an honor thesis which I feel like Penn would love. Congrats for getting inducted into STT next month! I think you should hear back soon since it says the ready for review. Once mine said ready for review I heard back within two days. The whole process was two months because I had to send a transcript from a summer course I took which took awhile. My status did change online to ready for review. You then will receive an email that says a decision has been made, and you then have to sign back into your application portal to view your decision.

Thank you!! Hopefully you will find out soon enough. I would say latest May since my acceptance took about two months. Plus, you doing your BSN at Penn should give you an advantage! My stats/experience were I had a 3.5 GPA, no work experience besides an after school tutor job for less than a year, and a lot of volunteer experience. My only hospital experience was my volunteer experience in various units and hospitals. Additionally, I was part of sigma theta tau, two other honor societies, and a community service program. I thought I wouldn't get in because I have no work experience only clinical experience from rotations.

Hi! I was just recently accepted into the FNP program at Penn! I was surprised when I heard back so soon. I had applied in early January and heard back earlier this month. Also, I didn't have to do an interview which I thought everyone was required too. Best of luck to you!!
