  1. I applied for, interviewed and got hired at a PRN position while 34 weeks pregnant. I hid it as best as possible, but I knew they knew but they can't ask you. I ended up delivering before I started and had my first day when my baby was 9 days old. I was fine and felt fine. I told them when I started that yes I was pregnant, mainly because I didn't want to insult their intelligence as women and nurses. They were fine with it. I would start applying soon and I wouldn't tell them. You can say something when you pass probation which is probably when it will become obvious. I would look into your contract now, regarding required shift amounts since you will be part time or PRN. Since I was PRN I was only obligated to work 1 shift per pay period. So that way you are able to figure out what you will do once baby comes. Because as someone else pointed out, you won't be eligible for FMLA. Look for something less chaotic. I work at an ambulatory surgery center, much more laid back than the Level 1 Trauma ER I was at. Hours are better also especially for a mom.
  2. I work a strictly nonclinical position with an MCO. My job duties include going to members homes to visit with them to coordinate various services they need. Long story short, there was a TB outbreak at a local adult daycare many of our members attend. We were asked if we wanted a TB test and I said I did. My test came back positive as did my secondary. My medical visits have been covered by Workman's Comp as have my medications. But I am frightened for the future and unknown. I have two small children, one I was still nursing when I contracted the virus. I am afraid of the stigma and future health problems I may develop. Not to mention all this preexisting condition talk recently. My employer did not have me have any type of baseline testing or show proof of recent testing. I had no preemployment physical, not even a drug test. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?
  3. I used to work in a crazy busy level one trauma emergency room. I felt unsafe on a regular basis. Towards the end of time there, I was pregnant. I had drunk or psychiatric patients swing at me and my belly multiple times. I had family members upset about wait times or such and yell and scream at me. That actually bothered me more. Because they are so concerned with customer service, my supervisors would comply and do what they wanted, never mentioning the verbal harassment they put on me, regardless if my pregnancy. I have now had my baby and work in a much calmer ambulatory surgery. I have yet to ever feel unsafe.
  4. i practice in texas, and every three months they send a newsletter that lists the name, license number and type and whether their license was suspended, revoked or surrendered. you can look online to see the actual documentation of the case. its enlightening, scary and crazy what some people do.

  6. i had posted a while back about leaving my job, and questions about applying for new jobs, as i am pregnant. i went on a few interviews, and have accepted a prn position in a ambulatory surgery recover department. when i went to the interview, i wore a dress that did not accentuate my growing belly, but i am at the point where it is unable to be hidden. i could tell they could tell. the director is a woman and she could tell. but of course, no one in the interview asked me anything about it. i just got a call from human resources that i need to meet with the occupational health nurse tomorrow. i am now 7 months pregnant. my ob/gyn knows the situation and says she anticipates that i can work up until i deliver, at least at this point. i feel good. i want to start as soon as possible to be completely oriented to the unit when i give birth. so my question: can the occupational health nurse ask me about being pregnant? the paperwork they just sent me asked if i have any current limitations that may interfere with my ability to perform my job. i was doing everything and anything up until leaving me previous job at a completely chaotic level one trauma emergency room two weeks ago. again, i feel good. i literally did cpr two shifts before i left. there are no questions regarding my last menstrual period. can the occupational health nurse ask me anything though? is it legal? if she does, how should i answer? i intended on bringing it up when i started. i was going to be completely up front, and say yes, i am pregnant. but i can and will work for the next eight weeks at least if not longer, and i will never neglect my contractual obligations, which is only that i work two shifts per month. again its a prn/ per diem position. any direction is appreciated!
  7. I did, but at the same time I didn't. I was out for almost three months at the beginning of the pregnancy with hyperemesis, that's now under control. So I had no more FMLA time off. I would have gotten off with whatever PTO I still had. And my job would have been saved for three months, but my boss loved to threaten that he didn't have to do that. So since I left, I still get my PTO. It works out the same.

I was working in a crazy busy level one trauma er up until last week. i resigned due to multiple reasons, including not feeling safe with my pregnancy. i am currently 28 weeks pregnant, and its obvious. i had been attempting to go from full time to prn or part time since last may, with my nurse manager giving me excuses and the run around. i no longer needed full time work with benefits, and was looking to work less hours and make the same amount. but he just wasn't having it. i am now in search of a new job. if my family pinched our pennies we think we could survive without me working until after i give birth. but i don't want to be out of the loop for six months, im afraid to lose my skills and knowledge. but i don't want to walk into interviews and it be obvious i am pregnant and ruin an opportunity. i know they can't ask me if i'm pregnant, and cant explicitly tell me they aren't going to hire me because i'm pregnant either. im afraid that they will not hire me officially for another reason, and not even consider me in august or july if i reapply then. any thoughts? do i apply and interview for new jobs now? if so, do i put it out there that i'm pregnant, or do i try and hide it? or do i wait until after i give birth?
