Hi Lindsay! I just finished my first semester of nursing school and I'm 47! I have 9 children and I was home with them for 20 years. Never think you are too old! You bring so much life experience. I am a much better student because I am older. I know that I don't want to waste time so I am serious about my studies and I manage my time much better. Good luck!

Same here...I got a B 25 years ago (yes, that long ago) in an English class and I recently petitioned for that college to allow me to retake it so I could get an A and improve my GPA and they said "no!". I went into my pre-reqs with the knowledge that I had to get A's to be competitive. Fortunately I did well and I am now a nursing student. However, the schools that I applied to had a minimum GPA as well but most people that I know who applied had a 3.8 or higher. I met many people who were struggling who were really hoping to get in just because they want to be a nurse, but unfortunately that desire isn't good enough when you are trying to get into a competitive program. I recommend that people take their sciences pre-reqs slowly and get the A instead of trying to do too much at once.

I believe that won't change. I believe after 12/15 it will completely disappear.

Thanks...I'll be attending SCC. I threw my hat in for ARC one more time since it's closer, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm "older" so I'm glad to be starting now and that I didn't have to wait too long to get in.

i'm surprised that they would send out the alternate letters first, that seems odd. Has anyone else seen anything? I'll be refreshing here all night to see if anyone else has heard anything.

I'm sad to hear this. I delivered my son stillborn 5 days after his due date. it is the only time I ever had an epidural when giving birth. It was recommended so that I would not have as much physical pain as I went through so much other pain. The care that I had during/after his birth is what has propelled me to become a nurse myself. I hope that you can find some research or some information that can help them see the value in allowing an epidural. Also, why can't it be the patient's choice? I find it odd that they are just saying "no."

Well, I've given birth 9 times and I've only had a male nurse once. Truthfully, it felt awkward. There is a lot of "intimacy (for lack of a better word" involved, especially after the birth. I preferred female nurses even though I always preferred a male ob/gyn. The females just brought a special something to the experience, more of a tenderness and some familiarity.

Has anyone been accepted elsewhere but waiting to see if you get into ARC as well? Thanks!

Thanks for your response! I have looked at the schedule for both, there are some similarities. ARC gives me back about an hour each day in drive time, which I could use elsewhere. It is closer to my home. What time would you say that you were done with most of your clinicals? I know you said you have a few in the evenings, but for the daytime ones did you usually get done around the same time? Thanks!

I know that last year they received notice sooner than 4 weeks, so hopefully that pattern will continue this year. I wonder if Sierra has more applicants since they accept "lower" TEAS scores?

Nutrition works with nursing. CSUS also has a Consumer & Family Science degree that I had considered working towards had I not received admission into a nursing program. Have you looked at Butte, Yuba or Solano? I am not sure how far you would be willing to drive. I hope this is your year and that you hear back from Sierra!
