  1. If I were you I would go to job core and get your LPN for free! Then, try to find LPN job that that pays tuition reimbursement to pay for you to get your ADN and eventually your BSN. You should be more then able to support your self on LPN wages as you continue school. I also had no financial support while getting my ADN and then my BSN. I worked to support myself while living on my own. I had 2 jobs most of the time and lived on the bare minimum. My current job paid for my BSN. I had minimal student loans because I choose to do my ADN at a community college. You can get to the same place but you may just have to change your route a bit.
  2. I was a dental assistent. My official degree was AAS in dental assisting. Originally, I went back to school for dental hygiene and after I got through most of the generals, that we're basically the same, I switched to nursing. I decided to switch for the variety of differnt careers I could do in nursing. I do not regret it at all. I live next to and work for a huge medical facility that allows me to do any nursing specialty that I want. I am starting in a new area on Wednesday and am very excited for the change. I'm not worried because if I don't like it I can finish my year comitment and change it up or I stay in the area for the rest of my nursing career. The skies the limit!
  3. Thanks! I did not know they can contract out. This may be true because it never says anything on their website about even having nurses. I know they hire them because I have worked at a group home in the past.
  4. I am a nurse with my BSN. I work at a hospital with great pay and benefits. I have been bedside nursing for the past 4 years. There is just one problem it's not what I am passionate about. I want to work with patients with developmental disabilities. i worked in this field for 6 years prior to becoming a nurse and it was the most fulfilled I have ever been. So my question is how do I find a RN job in this field. I have been looking around at all the adult day programs and group home sites and none of them are hiring. I have been looking for about 6 months now and have not found one opening in my area. Should I call them all up on the phone and inquire about possible positions? Is there an area in this field I'm not thinking of? I live in a very medical driven city so I expected a few options by now. Thanks
