CUNY York College Generic Nursing 2016
Hello everyone, I started this thread 3 years ago and have since graduated from York’s nursing program as part of Cohort 6. York’s program is great and my class had a 100% pass rate for the NCLEX. I know it all seems very overwhelming at first, but you guys will get used to it and it will be over before you know it. There will be a lot of struggles in between and times where it feels impossible, but that’s just the nature of nursing school. Remember you are not alone. Learn to support one another and don’t forget that your class is a team. I wish you all the best of luck!

CUNY York College Generic Nursing 2016
Hi Naushin2014, I am currently in the nursing program at York College, and I will be graduating in December. Each year they have been accepting more students. My cohort (6) started with 36 students and we currently have 33. The year after mine, York accepted approximately 50 students. The GPA requirement is hard to put an exact number on because it depends who else applies. I know it has to be above 3.0 for the specified classes. Also, the NLN requirement is to get above the 50th percentile. Some students do drop, but unlike many other programs, we are supported to pass. The professors are not trying to weed anyone out. If you are serious about nursing, York has a great program, and I encourage you to apply. I hope this helps and good luck!

CUNY York College Generic Nursing 2016
Hi FutureNurseInfo, Sorry for the late response, but I haven't been on here for a while. I just completed my first semester of York's Generic Nursing Program. So far it seems like a good program. We have a class of 36 students and we all work together to succeed. Our professors are very supportive. We have optional open lab to practice our skills multiple times per week, which is very helpful. There have been several different clinical sites in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. I got placed at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn for my first semester and we learned a lot there. What else would you like to know about the program?

They did allow calculators. For my exam they let us use the calculator app on the computer.

Adelphi Fall 2016
I was told that you need to complete all prerequisite classes before starting upper level nursing classes. In other words, yes, pathophysiology needs to be completed before starting the program. Hope this helps.

Adelphi Fall 2016
I'm not taking Patho, but I'm taking Nursing Informatics Thursday from 1:50-3:30pm. Luckily I was also able to register for genetics before all the spots filled up. I'm taking it Monday at 8:10-9:50am. How about you?

CUNY York College Generic Nursing 2016
I just wanted to start a thread for CUNY York College Generic Nursing 2016 applicants. I applied and I'm hoping to hear from others who applied as well. I would also appreciate any current York College nursing students' comments about the program and/or their NLN scores/GPA upon admission. I know we won't hear a decision until June, but I thought I'd start this thread for any questions/support. Good luck to everyone who applied!

Adelphi nursing program
I found out that I got an Adelphi Transfer Scholarship, but I haven't heard about any other financial aid. I was told to check back at the end of May.

Adelphi Fall 2016
I'm taking genetics, chem, informatics, and art. Possibly developmental psych because they haven't decided if the classes I took are equivalent (even though they totally are).

I have been accepted too! Just registered to take my remaining semester of prereqs in Fall 2016. I'm still waiting to hear about financial aid, which is nerve racking. How long did it take others to find out about their financial aid packages?

Has anyone taken the PAX RN in March/April 2016?? Help please!
@sam2121 As for calculators I'm not sure. I believe some schools allow it and some don't. Your other two questions are impossible to answer because the NLN PAX is a computer generated exam and the breakdown of questions on each exam will be different. I didn't get a lot of physics and chemistry, but my friend did. My best advice is to try to take a deep breath the day of the exam and not let your nerves get the best of you. Also you might want to practice the math questions without a calculator just in case. Good luck!

Thank you helllonurse! The science section was pretty similar to the book. There were like 5 or 6 questions I didn't know but the rest were pretty easy. The chemistry questions were very simple in my opinion. Some of the questions were almost exactly the same as the questions in the book. I actually found the verbal ability section the most difficult because of the reading comprehension (which I was fine with when studying). My best advice is to try to relax and take a breath during the exam. I feel like I rushed through the entire thing (I finished the whole exam in 1hr 20min) and I think if I had I taken my time I could have done even better. I'm not complaining about my score, but I did rush too much out of fear of running out of time. I think it really hurt me on the math section because when I took the practice tests I got 100% of the math right, without a calculator, in the allotted amount of time. On the real thing, I finished in half the time and the questions weren't any harder, so I'm thinking I didn't read them thoroughly enough. I still managed 93% in math but it's definitely possible to get 100%. I hope this helps! You will be fine if you don't stress too much (easier said than done lol)! Good luck!!!

@hellonurse I studied for about 2 weeks before the test. The math wasn't harder even though we were allowed to use a calculator. The review book is very helpful. I took it this morning and got a composite score of 164 which is the 99th percentile. I thought the reading comprehension on the actual test was a little more difficult, but the vocabulary was easier. The rest was pretty much the same. Good luck on 4/20!

@Nurse J823 Do you mind sharing your GPA and TEAS scores from when you were admitted into the program? I am trying to figure out my chances of being accepted! Thanks for posting about the program!

NLN/PAX Pre-admission Exam Tips
Oh ok. Thank you. My school says they don't know (which is ridiculous). I figure I'll bring a calculator just in case.

Adelphi nursing program
They told me I needed organic or their chemistry class which is inorganic and organic combined. I already took inorganic so idk what I'll have to do. I applied to other programs as well, 2 of which I would graduate from in only 2 years so I'm kinda hoping I get into those. Adelphi looks amazing though!

Thanks for your response. I just took the TEAS last week so that is what is holding up an admissions decision. I have about a 3.7/3.8 combined GPA from the three schools I've attended, and I got 95.3% on the TEAS, so hopefully I have a chance! Off the top of my head, I know I have to take genetics, organic chemistry, and possibly statistics (if they don't accept my AP credit). I hope to hear back from them within a few weeks! Good luck in your nursing education!

RubyC - How long after your application was complete did Adelphi accept you into their program? I will also have to take some prerequisites there if I get in so I hope by the time I find out there are still openings! May I ask what your GPA and TEAS scores were?
