Poll: What do you love about the NICU?
Thank you to everyone who responded to this post, and I am forever greatful that the posts have continued over the years. I say "thanks" because I will be entering into an accelerated BSN program this fall and giving up my 6-figure job in federal public health (mind you, I have a husband, 2-year old, and a mortgage)... All to pursue my dream of becoming a NICU nurse. Over 30 years ago, my mom visited me in the NICU, and since I was old enough to comprehend that it was me in the NICU picture, in my family's photo album, I have known that NICU nursing is my purpose and vocational calling. Yes, I deviated from the plan these past 17 years, but I am more certain than ever that the NICU is the place for me. Reading your posts gave me chills because you have expressed everything that I have ever dreamt to do and feel. Along with my family photo, I will be bookmarking this post in hopes that others will continue to share because I am sure I'll need the motivation during this next year of nursing school.

Johns Hopkins Direct Entry MSN- Fall 2016
Thanks for offering the Nurse Corps option, @jamaral. However, my household income would not make me very competitive for that opportunity. I currently work for the organization that manages that program so I am VERY familiar with both their scholarship and loan repayment options. If you are eligible, I encourage you to apply because service to the underserved is what it's all about! If you think of any other options to consider between now and Apr. 15th (last date to respond to the offer), please do share.

Johns Hopkins Direct Entry MSN- Fall 2016
Congrats jamaral! Not sure if all others have received their admissions notices. I've been quiet on the post because I received my financial aid info last Friday, as Hopkins promised. I am now trying to decide if it's worth accumulating student loandebtOR do I potentially attempt to work full-time while studying at Hopkins. This nursing degree means too much to me to not be 100% focused, and I feel as though I am too old to acquire the amount of debt this degree will bring. If I ultimately decide on Hopkins, I will definitely look into whatever FB page is created.

Financial Aid Update: I spoke with the Hopkins financial aid office today, and Erin said they are trying to ensure the online Graduate Aid Application is open by next Monday (3/7) with award package notices going out (via email) around Friday (3/11).

Johns Hopkins Direct Entry MSN- Fall 2016
I am in the same boat with GW's W2 scholarship. It was offered to me too! I think we crossed paths a couple Saturday's ago. (I would PM you, but I still haven't reached the quota on this board). Anyhoo, no financial aid info in the Hopkins email. I will give the financial aid office a call this week if I don't get the packet in the mail. If I find out any interesting info, I will be sure to share with the rest of the group.

Just got my acceptance email!!!!!! OMG!!! So, jj_muzings, what's it gonna be... Hopkins or GW? For others, it would be helpful to know what was in your packet that the email said would be sent via snail mail.

CONGRATS jj_muzings! Thanks for letting us know that we can all keep an eye out for the message, now. By the way, did they include any scholarship information (whether/not you were considered for any) with your notice?

George Washington ABSN Fall 2016
For me, the longest wait was from the time I hit the submit button through until the time NursingCAS did its thing and sent my app over for GW review. After it was with GW, I heard back within 2-3 weeks. Good luck!

Johns Hopkins Direct Entry MSN- Fall 2016
Congrats jj_muzings... So, there is a possibility we could be cohort-mates in one school or another. I'm leaning more towards Hopkins because 1. Distance from home - I am a mom and wife, living in Maryland. 2. The curriculum is right up my alley - my public health specialty is family-centered care, shared decision-making, health equity (maternal and child health). 3. Plus with Hopkins' ranking and reputation, I believe the experience and quality will be worth it. 4. Have you read up on the history of who Johns Hopkins was? On the con side, $$$ of course. Also, I have heard from a few alumni of other Hopkins programs that there is this "bourgeois" attitude among many on campus that can be a bit unsettling. However, I did not sense it within the nursing program when I participated in the open house. Good luck with your ultimate decision.

Johns Hopkins Direct Entry MSN- Fall 2016
I applied for the Fall 2016 MSN entry program too... the wait is driving me nuts! I have already received an acceptance letter from GW's accel BSN program and need to give them my decision within the next week. Anyone else considering other accelerated programs in the DMV area?

George Washington ABSN Fall 2016
Hi RoseSim, Congrats on your acceptance. How was your W2 interview experience? Mine is scheduled for this Saturday (2/20). Just wondering what to expect. Did you get a good vibe from the staff/former GW students. I have yet to officially accept my GW offer, but it looks as though I may very well be one of your classmates this fall.
