New Grad BSN Options Boston Area
Oh! I've never heard that phrase before. Yeah that wouldn't be too bad at all and I'm not opposed to a commute at all. Which cities are within an hour? I've been looking at Worcester, not sure where else.

New Grad BSN Options Boston Area
Hi there! I just graduated with a BSN from an accelerated program in New York. I'm taking the NCLEX in Massachusetts in a few weeks since my husband will be going to school in Boston, so we will be living there starting in August. All of the posts about new grad jobs in Boston are either super old or only discuss new grad programs specifically. I'm looking to apply anywhere and everywhere that I have a chance of getting a job. Any new grad programs you DO know of that are hiring? Any outpatient centers, VA hospitals, clinics, alternative options for someone who can't move farther out of the Boston/Boston Suburbs, who is a BSN newgrad? Any advice appreciated. PS- the one positive about this endeavor is I do have a lot of time to look. We are expecting so I won't be looking to start until the earliest, November. PPS- I have no options other than Boston so please be as positive as you can! :) :) I am aware it's a tough market for new grads. Thanks in advance for any comments!

Dominican College ABSN May 2017
I think it's more then, based on what you said. 1st 20 credits = 13,289 + remaining 38 credits = 13,300 + program fees/miscellaneous = 2,000?? ____ =about $28,589 Which is great, about 30k is half of what I thought it would be!! :D

Any part-time B.S.N. progams in NYC?
Dominican college has a weekend bsn that's two years long, not too far from CNR.

I'm young and nervous about going into the nursing profession
Apology accepted! You did misinterpret my tone happy new year!

I'm young and nervous about going into the nursing profession
...obviously. You work together. But that doesn't mean being a CNA is the same as being an RN. It's not. That's all I'm saying. RNs have far more/different responsibilities depending on job setting, so only seeing what a CNA does could deter someone from a profession that might otherwise be a great fit for them. A job is a sum total of all the aspects, what a CNA does is just one of the aspects and in certain settings, none of what they do applies. Nursing is a flexible profession, why discourage others to do it? There's more than one way to become a nurse (skin a cat, literally, in anatomy lab haha í ½í¸) and sometimes I feel in here that people think their way is the ONLY way; that's the only point I'm trying to make, not to put down cna's but as an RN I do far more than what they do. My job is not that of a CNA.

I think it's about 60k total. That's what I was told when I called but they couldn't give me an exact number.

Also I have to add that working as a CNA firs is totally unnecessary! Those minimum wage jobs DO suck, I have had a lot of them and they are AWFUL, especially if you are someone who dreams of having a great job that pays well, is challenging, encourages you to improve and better yourself.... those minimum wage jobs are boring and depressing tbh. They are just a paycheck. Nursing is a vocation, you are there to help people and to be the best you can be. It requires schooling and committment. If you can make it through nursing school and the NCLEX, why wouldn't you make it in your profession as a nurse if that's really your dream? My mom always told me not to be a CNA because CNA's do not do what nurses do. Sorry to any CNAs but they don't. A lot of the work they do is difficult, dirty, demeaning work. They are VITAL to the team in the hospital but if you go and decide being a nurse isn't for you just because being a CNA isn't for you, that's just unrealistic because being a nurse is different than being a CNA.

I'm young and nervous about going into the nursing profession
Just remember, your life is YOUR LIFE and you are not required, or even likely, to follow in your sister's footsteps if you don't want to. It sounds like you already know that quitting/giving up is not the way you want your professional life to be. If you dream it, you can do it. Cliche, but true. If you dream of becoming a nurse, why would you quit? That the surest way to lose. Trust me, when you are free from your mom's financial safety net, you will be SO proud of yourself. Just keep focused on what you want in life. Become the BEST at what you do, really apply yourself to your studies. Think positively. If you are constantly worried about your job sucking, then you will only see the ways that it sucks. Try focusing only on the good things about nursing, because no job is going to be perfect. That's 100% guaranteed.

Dominican College ABSN May 2017
Awesome! Good luck! I actually just got my acceptance letter yesterday, pending completion of prereqs ~~ I am SO EXCITED! I only have biochemistry and pathophysiology left. Yes, I heard the exact same thing. The most common advice I've also heard is 1) form and study group and 2) review NCLEX questions the whole time. Good luck to you, again! :)

Dominican College ABSN May 2017
Hey everyone! I have applied to Dominican and I'm looking forward to (hopefully) getting accepted sometime this December! I'm gonna be taking the patho class in early May as well, pending acceptance. Just looking to see who else applied, if you're excited about the program, thoughts..etc My personal take is that this program's biggest asset is the length of program (12 months)! Best of luck to everyone applying! Also, if anyone has advice about this college, please share!

Nursing Schools Not Responding to Email
Honestly I wasn't looking for a solution to the problem of getting in contact with them, just looking to see if others have experienced this problem as frequently as I have. But thanks for the input.

Nursing Schools Not Responding to Email
You all are spot on with the "call them" idea, but if it were that easy I definitely would have done it haha I live in China and while I did call them over skype, there was no way they could call me back so I wasn't able to get any answers (all calls went to voicemail). That also takes away the "visit them" concept. I just wish they would respond to emails faster, you know? It really is the easiest method of communication. Also, I do have 3 different individuals emails and only one of them ever responded.

Accepted into Molloy BSN fall '16 but...
I'm not sure about Adelphi but I am also applying to Molloy for next year even though I am also concerned about the length of the program.... I finished some of their prereqs already so I don't know why the minimum is 5 semesters. Good luck with your choice!

Nursing Schools Not Responding to Email
Hey there! I'm applying to ABSN programs in the NYC area. I have most prereqs done, but I still need to finish A&P II. I'm looking to start either January, May, or September 2017 depending on the program.. Here's the issue: I find it really hard to get in contact from anyone at most nursing schools! I'll fill out their contact info and maybe 1 out of 3 schools will reply. Then, there's Dominican College which is my #1 choice due to length of the program, location, and philosophy, and they have not responded to one email I have sent! (It's been a month and a half, I have sent the same email 3 times) Is anyone else encountering this?? lol

Peace Corps before nursing school
To be VERY honest with you, the only way the Peace Corps would be ~directly~ beneficial is if you actually got accepted to WORK in the health sector. Otherwise, it might honestly be better to apply after you have your RN, when you would actually have the skills necessary to help. I am working alongside my husband, who is in the Peace Corps in China right now. Unfortunately, unless you have very specific skills in a certain area (engineering, qualified health professional, environmental science major etc) you are most likely to get placed as an English Teacher. It would be a fulfilling two years if you are working in an area you like (which may or may not be teaching!) and then subsequently decide to do nursing. I am planning on completing my ABSN next year when my husband gets out, personally. But if you want to work in the health sector, you need qualifications.

Molloy College ABSN
Hey there! I am looking to start an ABSN program in 2017. I only have a couple prereqs left, but I am currently working abroad in China so the option to start a semester early at a college to finish prereqs would be really convenient. That's where I discovered Molloy College! I just found out about their program, which one can be accepted to without completing prereqs. The only problem is that the length of their program without prereqs is 2.5 years minimum! Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this program? I personally deal much better with higher pressure for time (sounds strange, but it's true) which is why I'd rather go with a 1 to 1.5 year program. I know it would be more challenging but like I said, a bigger time crunch works well for me. Any advice/insight?
