If I were you- I'd delete this comment. They look at these threads. We had to sign a paper saying we wouldn't discuss interview questions... they take this VERY seriously

Definitely not true! My senior buddy was offered a spot on the waitlist 2 weeks before school started. Life happens, don't give up!

Duke CRNA FAll 2018
Someone messaged me on facebook to come back and answer some questions on this thread!!! My name is Aisha Allen, I am currently in the 2019 class. I remember being on here and finding NOTHING haha. So it is so nice to see you guys getting on here and communicating with each other. I have an instagram page for those interested in seeing what Duke is like. One thing I will say is hands down it is worth the money. No other student here at Duke will tell you anything differently. But you guys can message me on instagram at aishasrna or [email protected]. Congrats to everyone who applied. Also- my stats: 306 GRE, 3.44 GPA, D1 soccer player throughout undergrad at VCU, CVICU at Level 1 for 1 year, 6 months VICU stepdown before that.

Day in the life of a CRNA?
My school required statistics but I don't remember using a sophisticated one. As for organic chem, I purposefully chose schools that's didn't require it because my I knew in Crna school, I'd be taught what they wanted me to know, not allllll of org. Chem

HPSP 2016
Are you able to tell me all that is covered? Like full tuition and fees, or EVERYthing on the account page? My school requires us to have parking, so I am wondering if that will be paid for as well (should I be selected)

HPSP 2016
I am hoping to have my packet sent for the August board! I start Nurse Anesthesia school this August so I am hoping all goes well. I have been at this process for 1 year!!! Ive had some trouble with recruiters BUT for those who are currently receiving the scholarship... what does the scholarship cover? Just tuition, tuition and fees, or does it cover the entire amount on the account page??? Hope to hear back from someone, the last time I checked- everything was outdated.

Why or why not CRNA?
My school only has the DNP, so I had no choice, but I definitely think your path sounds just like mine! It's definitely doable right?! Congrats on your acceptance

Crna competitiveness
In speaking with the admissions and current students... The picture you paint is completely opposite. I don't think anyone should speak on any schools they have not attended. Further, your comment regarding the reason I was accepted... Again, you have no possible idea why I could have been accepted. So please spare the "money" degradation comment. All in all, we should be uplifting one another, there is no hurt to apply. I'm sure he will get in as his stats are good

Crna competitiveness
YES YES YES too all of this. You have no made me feel better for the decision I made.

Crna competitiveness
A lot of older CRNAs don't understand the current wait admissions is going. There's a reason 1 year is the minimum requirement. It's all you need! They want to see you are driven a and will complete their program. Your stats are great, you will get in. I applied to two top 3 schools and got accepted into both with one year of experience. They also really don't care which Icu specialty you have, just that you've worked with reasonable sick patients with Vaso gtts!

CRNA School Admission Chances
I got in with 1 year of experience. You can do it! My university wanted someone with dedication. They saw all that I did to prepare myself for school. I got my GRE and CCRN done within my first year. I would definitely apply. I'm glad I didn't listen to the people who told me to wait. It can't hurt to try!!!

Why or why not CRNA?
There are travel CRNA's... Which is what I plan to do. They make BANK! Just to touch on the job market.; within the next 10 years 60% of the current CRNA job force will be retiring due to told age.

Why or why not CRNA?
I will be a first year CRNA student at A Topp 5 University this coming Fall and started out in a very similar place. Don't let people deter you from your thought process and setting yourself up for success in the future. Sadly, it has become almost a necessity to look ahead starting in high school because times have changed. With that said,my main motivation for becoming a CRNA is money (don't ever say that in your interview btw). I applied to nursing school two days before the deadline because I had found out about the CRNA life. In high school I was always interested in science and math, I was an athletic trainer and thought I wanted to do that... But there's no money in that. Growing up, I was always a good student, grades were very important in my household and I think those things are great starting point for someone who wants to go in the field. After high school it is totally possible to complete CRNA school within a year (I will have mine done in 6 years out of high school). How? Because I placed myself in positions to be where I needed to be. To do that, I did the following: 1. Applied and got accepted to my BSN program in 2009 2. While in school, worked a few days a week as a care partner IN AN ICU (it's more than possible as I was a D1 athlete at the same time) 3. Graduated December 2013, and accepted the first position I could find as an ICU Stepdown RN (as I had to move and had no connections... But I had a job offer from the floor I was working on) 4. Consistently emailed my hospital recruiters for any job openings for ICUs. One opened up 6 months after I started floor nursing 5. After 7 months in my ICU (Cardiac Surgery) I took my GRE(shoot for 300, I got 307) and my CCRN certification. 6. As soon as I finished those requirements, I started applying to schools. I specifically chose the schools that didn't require organic chemistry as a pre req- because you learn it in CRNA school. Most schools require 1 year of ICU experience by the time you start CRNA school, so don't wait! I wanted Cardiac Surgery but it truly doesn't matter, we all start from scratch 7. I applied to two schools that both had early acceptance and interviewed October 2015(they told us whether or not we got Accepted by Thanksgiving) Had I not been accepted to either of them, I would have finished my applications that were due by January. Luckily, I was accepted by both, and I chose Duke. 8. I could have chosen my other school, and been able to pay a much more affordable tuition. But I want my resume to speak for itself. Yes the debt is CRAZY. But there is nooooo doubt I will be able to pay it off within 3 years with the CRAZY income I will be making in such a short time. Your Return on your investment is positively measurable and will work in your favor 9. I start this August and can't give you much more insight hahaha 10. DO NOT LET PEOPLE TALK YOU OUT OF ANYTHING THEY HAVE NOT DONE. Especially if they have the mindset of "you have to love your job or you'll be miserable" mindset. I don't think that way, and it doesn't sound like you do either Please PM if you have any questions. I don't know you, but I know you can do it!!!! Sorry for for the long post- but it drives my gears when people try and discourage people from doing something positive

So by shuttle in- you mean get to campus at said parking lot, and then shuttle from there? I've seen some places near campus, just like city living... Freaking expensive. But I'm going to look into a parking pass I guess. Im trying to figure out when I'm moving down there. They haven't released when we are going to be on campus.

Duke nurse anesthesia DNP 2016
Ugh thought I had gotten away from DC traffic!!! But I will definitely take a look into Brier Creek. I have been only looking near the Campus as to minimize driving-but I guess that's inevitable. Do you by any chance know the cost of a parking pass for the campus?
-
Duke nurse anesthesia DNP 2016
Awesome!!! How is traffic to and from Brier Creek? I come from VCU and living in the city so I didn't have to worry about parking passes and what not. Trying to cut down on costs (obviously). So when did you interview??

Duke nurse anesthesia DNP 2016
Yes I have. Check your online application, that's where they put the offer letter, that's also where you have to accept/decline

I have a Cardiac Surgery ICU background. I am in VA beach and will be relocating to the Durham area sometime in July. I don't have enough posts either- I've been trying to send pms, but clearly no one got them! I could imaging having done a skype.
