Seattle University APNI Program 2018
Because the second year of my APNI-MSN schedule will be much different from the APNI-DNP schedule i'm going to refrain from sharing, just because it won't be relevant. Housing options aren't ideal, in my opinion. Cap Hill (the neighborhood SU is in) is soooo expensive. I live here, but it's not cheap. A fair amount of the collective cohort live outside of capitol hill and commute (from as far North as Everett and as far south as Tacoma). If your budget is tight, looking for housing near a Link Light Rail stop might be useful. It runs frequently, and has a stop that's a 10 minute walk from campus.

Seattle University APNI Program 2018
I'm definitely liking the program so far. To be completely honest, the RN year was a bit brutal. I think part of that was due to the fact that psych track folks generally had much less medical experience (none of the psych track members were CNAs beforehand, to my knowledge). Either way, prepare for a bit of a grind the first year. While it can be overwhelming at times, there's always an awesome sense of excitement and accomplishment that'll get you through (as well as the other members of your cohort). Interview Tips: -The interviewers are kind people who work in a caring profession, and are excited to learn about you. Knowing in advance that they're genuinely nice, cheerful people will hopefully reduce a tiny bit of anxiety. -Understand the Jesuit mission, in what ways it's important to you, and how it's conducive to creating an excellent RN/NP/DNP -Seattle U embodies the idea that social justice issues are extraordinarily important. Think of some ways that social justice is important to you in your personal life/future career before the interview. -(feel free to disregard this one, as some people who've had successful interviews would likely disagree with me) Show a little bit of your personality. Don't feel the need to be TOO sterile or overly professional. List your concrete info (qualifications, background, interests etc.), but don't be afraid to show a bit of your passion, quirks, personality, etc. (while still being interview-appropriate). Other than the topics listed above, be prepared for some of the standard questions you might expect in an interview. Hope this info is helpful!

Seattle University APNI Program 2018
Hey all! I'm in the psych/mental health track that began in 2016. I wanted to add myself to the available list of resources on this forum to anyone who has questions. I'm part of the last APNI cohort who are completing the program with a Master's (not a DNP). While my experience will be slightly different than this year's APNIs, I'm still happy to share what I know. Remember, whether you are invited for an interview or not, be proud of yourselves for the experiences that have brought you to this point (cheesy but true).

I'm not sure about wait list position. I'm guessing they'll know after those that have accepted either commit to the program or go elsewhere. (I think we had approximately a week and a half)

Congrats to you as well, Jess :) Yeah, maybe they're deciding on each spot (1-12) for each track and notifying people as they decide. We definitely will get to know each other! It's so crazy to think that there are 11ish other people in our cohort that we've never met but will know extremely well and rely/depend on in a matter of months.

Thanks so much for your response, @atki! You shared some super valuable information. Like you, I'm not too fond of online classes (I love in-class and/or hands on learning). I roughly did the math and I'm calculating that total tuition/books/fees at Seattle U (according to their FAQ section) is $85,000-$95,000 and $106,000-$112,000 for MGHIHP. I think I'm starting to solidly lean toward SU. So you're at SU currently? How are you liking it?? Is the first year as rigorous as it sounds?

Seattle U or Mass Gen IHP (Boston)
I'm extremely excited to say that I've been accepted to both Seattle University and the Mass. General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. I've been accepted to both institutions for their direct entry master's in nursing for non-nurses program (mental health track). Although it's a very welcome dilemma to have, I have approximately a week to make a decision that'll decide my next three years (at the very least). I would love to hear any and all opinions that may make my decision easier Factors I'm considering General outlook/satisfaction toward each institution. In general and from alumni Pros/Cons of each city: I.e. weather, people, activities, etc As I plan to settle down in Oregon, how much weight should I put on making geographically relevant connections (Should I emphasize making connections (Seattle) or stretching myself and potentially growing more via moving to the east coast where I've never lived and rarely visited (Boston)) Cost of tuition/Possible financial aid offered Quality of education Job placement after graduation At such an exciting and uncertain time I'm so grateful to receive feedback on the decision. Thank you all so much!

I'm sorry. In hindsight I should have probably waited to post. I'm super excited so I may have completely jumped the gun. I got an email saying to check my online application so I assumed that the notifications for all tracks must have been sent out (which I'm sure is a huge assumption). If they haven't notified you, I would think it would be very soon?? My guess is that FNP will take the longest because around half of all applicants applied for that track?

Hey everyone! Looks like decision emails have gone out. I wish everyone the best of luck. I got into the psychiatric track!!!! I'm unbelievably elated. I hope several of you are also receiving some good news!

@woodlee9 Yep, I included all of the things you mentioned. I concentrated more on my personal statement than any other part of the application, and i spent several weeks revising it. @Tired-o-waiting I was told in the waiting room just before my interview. I was interviewed with 9 other people on the first day of interviews which was used for the top 10 applicants. @RBCC I plan on calling SU (probably next week). I don't want to rush them as I know they're busy. I'm not too optimistic but I'd reaaaaaally like to go to SU. Let me know if you hear anything. @lalalikelife Congratulations!!!!! that is extremely exciting! Did you get a call or an email? Any word on whether or not they're sending out invites for other tracks? I know the community health track is slightly different, but I wonder if the timelines differ quite a bit.

I've been accepted to Mass General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston (also a direct entry masters for non-nurses). Unfortunately I have to pay a $500 downpayment before March 9th in order to hold my spot. I'd prefer to go to Seattle U as the Pacific Northwest is where I belong and SU is a stellar program, but I'm certainly not going to miss the boat on attending any school just to avoid paying $500 to an institution I may not attend. It sucks to hear so many people are in similar situations as far as paying a downpayment. As for Seattle U, I'm trying to stay positive especially after being told my application scored in the top 10 as far as raw application score, but I was disappointed in my inability to convey my passion for SU during the interview portion. At this point it looks very likely that I'll be attending MGHIHP. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic. Hope everyone is staying happy and positive!

Congratulations on your interview! I'm a bit disappointed that interviews are running into March, as I thought they would be finished by the end of February. Sounds like we probably won't hear back by Feb 27th after all, which was the original estimate, but that's okay. I'm assuming the fact that they're still doing interviews suggests that they haven't locked in spots yet which is definitely interesting. In any case, congratulations on your interview. Let us know how it goes!

Hey, just wanted to confirm that they told me during the interview that this is the last year they are offering the direct entry masters They said that may have had something to do with the huge number of applicants. Pallas- You sound extremely qualified. I can't imagine that you wouldn't get an interview. Hang in there. I know they are doing interviews the entire month of February.
