  1. Thank you for the tip!!! I will make sure to always think like a nurse.
  2. Thank you for the tip!! I start my program next month and I am starting to get nervous. I am looking forward to reading and digesting as many tips as I can!
  3. I can see them letting people know about positions that are available, if people didn't pay, during orientation.
  4. You're right, this isn't the 1950's and yes there are others with kids and I've figured it out for the past 22 years with a child who suffered a closed head injury at the age of six months old. There are people who have different circumstances who aren't asking for special treatment or asking to be late frequently, but know things can come up. I worked for my last employer for 15 years and never went over the allotted 3 days of sick time. The only reason I started using them was because the told us we had to use them because they would no longer be payed to us if we didn't. When I decided to return to school three semesters ago I've never missed one class and have never been late, but I know in life things happen just like it could with a person who doesn't have children. Since I've received my letter I've gone and looked at the schedule of classes from the previous year and made up mock schedules so that I can go to people to show them my schedule to see if I can find a responsible person to ensure that I don't run into a problem. I would never ask to hand in something late or change a schedule for me because of my daughter, but I would hope that if I were to run into a problem and happen to come late to a class, my classmates and instructors will be understanding. I've taken classes with a couple of people who happened to get into the same program and they praised me when they found out about my daughter, they never knew because I never used it as an excuse for anything. At the age of 44 this was not something I took lightly, it was something that I've wanted to do for many years, but caring for my daughter was my first priority. I hope if you have children you are never faced with a situation where you have to call off of work or miss class, but be prepared because it may happen and when it does, remember your words. I've always scheduled myself on later classes and worked later shifts so that caring for my daughter would never be an issue. It just so happens that the clinicals are very early and I was just hoping it would never become an issue. We never know soneones story. ☺️☺️
  5. They will probably start at the meeting. I hear if you're late to the mandatory meeting or miss it you're automatically disqualified to they start picking then.
  6. Wow, I was so happy about receiving my acceptance letter to the nursing program, then I came upon this thread. You've touched upon one of the things that fears me the most, child care. I have a daughter with special needs and I've never "used" her as an excuse to be late for work/school, but there are things that have happened beyond my control. I've purposely worked later shifts or taken classes that have started later because I know it's hard to find someone to get her on the bus. Now looking at the start times I've been trying to set up a plan A,B,C, and D so I'm never late or have to miss a class. I've never missed a class these last three semesters nor have a been late, but it may happen during the program. I worked for a company almost 14 yrs before being let go and unfortunately things have happened over those years, not often, but having kids things happens. I wil never use m daughter as an "excuse" , but I hope if an issues arises, people will understand. I've worked my butt off to get into the program and will continue to do so. I hope people don't judge me not knowing my situation.
  7. Thank you so much for the great advice!! I just received my letter saying I was accepted and I'm so nervous!! More so about the scheduling because I have to have some get my daughter on the bus in the mornings and I know the classes change frequently. This is a second career for me at 44, but I will give it all I got. I've already been told to expect to not have a life for the next two years!! Thank you again!
  8. I started one under Macomb Community College 2016, there are several people who have posted that they've gotten their letters.
  9. Nope I read it, then double and triple checked it along with my transcript! I was too nervous, and wanted to make sure I had everything.
  10. annabanna93, not sure if you know or not, but do they pick your schedule for you, or are you allowed to pick them yourself? Was just curious for sitter reasons, trying to plan ahead.
  11. When they sent you your letter it showed how many people were ranked? I heard they weren't doing that anymore. You would know you're 168 if you're alternate 8. How did you come up with your average? I had a 3.4 and a 87 on the HESI. That seems odd that you didn't rank higher.
  12. You should have been listed as an alternate, number 8 it looks like. I've heard of people being alternate number 11 and they got in. They didn't start until March, but they still got in. I wish I would have know what I was ranked. Did they tell you to come to the mandatory meeting? If so I would make sure you're there. Some people may not show up and that will get you closer to getting in. Good luck!!!
  13. Thank you, I found it!!!
  14. Thank you!!! Anyone know the name of the FB page? I looked and couldn't find it.
