  1. also, I want to say that I am not totally against working in a hospital. It's just this particular hospital, which has a high turnover rate. is known to hire mostly new grads because of this, and also their pay is very low. The hospital is about 2 hours from my house. Plus I have to pay for parking. I should have known something was wrong, when my preceptor was crying in the managers office for 40 minutes. And always saying that she hated working at this job... I've been told that I have an alpha female personality type. So I definitely don't give up easily. But I do not care to be miserable. I really thank everyone for their comments and suggestions. I have a lot to think about. I will definitely try to get my year elsewhere.:-D
  2. Just curious, how do you stick out something that you say is miserable? ((Serious question!!)) I have a very happy go lucky, laid back personality. And being stressed 24/7 is just not my idea of a life. But I do eventually want to complete my year. So what did you do on your off days to stay sane? Or to keep your spirits up? I've read so many posts about people crying in their car and having complete dread before going to work and leaving work. And yeah... that's just not for me.
  3. Wow thats amazing!!! See these are the stories I need to hear. That's phenomenal. Yeah on my floor before I got there the manager said that there have been 9 med errors in the month of January. That is unbelievable in my mind. The only thing I can think of was the fact that they were moving too fast and made the medication errors. I would hate to be their patient....
  4. Thanks Arrow RN! I appreciate your comments :-) hey I also love that show, I am a huge fan of the flash too
  5. LOL! Why because I dont passively let people say whatever they want to me and give no response? She basically just told me that she doesnt know if I should be a nurse, because I get anxiety as a new grad on a med surg floor. Now that I have four cents, I can really buy me something nice
  6. Ok great to know!!! I was in the middle of a med pass plus pt was having the stabbing pain. I guess its part of the waiting everyone complains about in the hospital
  7. Sorry to hear ( this is why i want to go into adminstration maybe I can make a difference *shrugs*
  8. I dont get easily stressed at all. Thanks for your two cents though! I'll make sure to buy me something nice with it
  9. Her questions were rude. Secondly no its not easy to tell someone to do something else. Like I said before if a job is getting to the point where it is effecting ones well being, one should obviously look elsewhere. No research has proven that working med Surg its a given you will be awesome in your specialty of choice. Most nurses I've talked to, said that felt less like a nurse when they were in med Surg than anywhere else. Ultimately the choice is up to the individual, whether they stay in med surg or not. I'm just saying that they do not have to be miserable and hate their job. Also feeling nauseated and anxious after 18 years before shifts might work for you, but maybe not everyone wants to feel that way.
  10. I just want to personally thank everyone who actually contributed to answering my question. You all have been a great support and I've learned a lot on this board. I know the options I have now. And I'm very lucky to actually live in a big city, where I have a few more options. I have started my search. Put in several applications. And it seems like I will have good results. For any future new grads that come across this message thread, I just want to encourage you if you are not successful at the hospital that does not make you a bad nurse or not fit for the nursing profession. It just means that you will find a rewarding career somewhere else! I've read so many threads on here about new nurses who despise working on a med surg floor and cry every day before going to work and have fallen into a depression. This is soooo not healthy, (think about your quality of life)... if it gets to the point where you really cannot take it and its affecting your life, I highly encourage you to look elsewhere. (You may feel like you are disappointing ppl ((as I did)) but you are the ones who have to go through those 12 hr shifts...not them) ... I guess what Im saying is that one year med/surg experience it's not worth your mental and physical health!
  11. Here we go again, senior nurses cant handle being called out for being rude to a fellow nurse.
  12. Yes and you also can have tact when talking to a fellow nurse. Her questions were condescending and unnecessary. She probably talks like that to new grads on the job.
  13. Im the OP and she was being insulting and patronizing. Moving on
  14. Like the ton of paperwork follow with questions we have to ask them like advanced directives?
