Measles outbreak in Texas: started 24 cases, 9 hospitalized; now 400 cases. Would you recognize Measles?
Sorry I didn't see the above posts. (About those who had rcd vaccines before 1968). I still feel that this population was fairly easy to define and would have come it to get vaccinated if they had known. My husband who teaches was directly exposed was born in those years. If he had known he would have been revaccinated. It will be 3 days before he is considered out of the woods.

Small outbreak in CA. Any thoughts on why the public has not been told that the people who were vaccinated from 1963-1967 may not have sufficient immunity.

Radiation Oncology Nursing?
I worked in Radiation oncology for 2 years. In my facility it was mostly education and treatment coordination. However depending on the oncologist there could be some port access and IV starts for planning CT with contrast. Also there tends to be alot of skin assessment due to the effect of radiation on the skin. There is a fair amount of discussion about sexuality due to the effects of radiation in the area of the pelvis. I found it to be a rather satisfying nursing role due to being able to get to know your patients usually over several weeks. Also I should mention you work very closely with usually very knowledgable professionals called Radiation Therapists.

ONS Chemo course online
I took the Radiation therapy class from ONS Last year. I passed but just to read through was more than 40 hours and it had many links to outside material that was very old and almost no material that applied to current research ( less than 10 years) on Radiation therapy that applied to nursing. The test was even worse in regards to its focus on the information that had to do with what radiation therapy is ( better explanation on Wikipedia BTW) To add insult to injury there was no access to the reams of material once you had taken the test so even the very tiny bit of applicable info was now of no use to me. So I have a CE with 15 hours on it but basically no applicable information to use for my patients. Also when I pointed this out I had to contact them three times before I rcd any reply at all and then it was just this is how we do things. I have now let my ONS membership lapse and they some how manage to have time to call/email me every 2 months and ask me why and I have replied at least twice (maybe three times now) via email that I will be happy to join again once they have actual information from this decade that will help a radiation nurse. They do not reply.
