Nursing school while pregnant?
I know this has been asked before but I would like to hear from people who have done it, or not. I have been on the waitlist to start nursing school for over a year, and it took nearly two years to get all the prereqs they required done. I have a spot to start this Fall. I just found out I'm pregnant with my 2nd child (1st is 4 and will be in daycare). My initial reaction was I should give up my spot in the course because there's no way its possible. However, I really want to do this! I would be due over winter break and probably have a week or two before my second semester would start. My last pregnancy was uneventful and baby came on time. Should I just wait another year to start? Or should I go for it? How did you find clinicals while pregnant? My school has clinical usually from 8-4 twice a week. I will also have the option of doing some online lectures on days I can't make class in person. So torn on what to do

Having a baby before, during, or after nursing school?
I'm a mom to a 4 year old girl, I am starting my nursing program this fall after a year wait to start. I got pregnant and started working on my prerequisite shortly after. I don't know what the requirements are for the program you are applying to but it took almost 2 years to complete them (4 semesters, couldn't do it any faster) and then there was a 2-3 semester wait to actually get a slot. If your timeline looks anything like that I would definitely recommend just having a baby now. It will be a LOT easier to be pregnant and take care of a newborn during prereqs then actual nursing and clinical. I am in a similar situation as I am about to turn 30 and my daughter is 4. I am finally ready for a second pregnancy but with school starting in the fall I don't know what to do either! I don't want to wait 3 more years and have a 7 year age gap but I certainly don't want to be having a baby my first semester of nursing school. I plan on timing my pregnancy so that I will have my baby over a summer break to be able to stay home with it for 3 months, or just waiting until I graduate. Whatever you choose if you're determined you can definitely do it! There are plenty of mothers, even single moms, who are in nursing school and succeed. Likewise many women manage to give brith during a semester and still keep up with classes! Though I think that would be very difficult as newborns steal all your sleep :) Good luck!

AACC Spring 2017
Hi teebaby0371! I am also slated for the Fall 2017 class and received a call this morning asking if I was interested in starting tomorrow! It was too short of notice though and no hybrid spots were available. I did not attend the orientation but my friend is currently in the program and doing hybrid. She said what happened was they had to submit the paperwork after that with the hybrid option selected and it was basically first come first serve. I believe they only select 16 people per semester.

AACC Spring 2017
Afox89 I just received my acceptance email for Fall 2017 on the 15th. It took a month after turning in my application to receive it. Here is the link for the Fall 2017 group :) https://allnurses.com/maryland-nursing/aacc-fall-2017-a-1060885-page2.html

AACC Fall 2017
I received my acceptance email as well last week :) Good luck to you ladies on your prereqs! Teebaby, Are you planning on doing the consortium program and taking the classes at AACC or taking them on the Stevenson campus? I am interested in the consortium program but haven''t researched the requirements yet.

anxiety about evening Childcare
Some of this might repeat things already suggested by others however this is my input as the mother of a 3 year old. Mom guilt is SO hard and I think you'll experience it no matter what decisions we makes as mothers! These two years will be very difficult for you and your son but if you believe it will build a stronger or more secure future for the both of you then you should find a way to make it work. What seems most troubling to me is the idea of him being in a nighttime daycare center, I don't know what his sleep schedule is like but I'm assuming he probably goes to bed by 7-8 since he has daycare in the morning/you work. It will be so much better for him and put less guilt on you if you find someone who can pick him up from daycare, bring him home to his own toys and room, make him dinner and put him to bed. That way he isn't being woken up after being asleep and having to go through the whole process again at home. I wonder if you can find a way to cut back on work hours, or if it's possible for you to study at work because it doesn't sound like you will have enough hours in your day to study or spend time with your son I know the nursing school I am waiting to start strongly discourages students from working more then 20 hours a week while attending school. It CAN be done but it will make it that much harder on you and of course being a mommy is another full time job. I hope you figure out a solution that works for you, stay strong and you will find a way. Many mothers have made it work before you and if they can survive you can too :)

AACC Fall 2017
Yup I actually finished all the bios last fall and I just finished stats over the summer. I've heard the nursing classes are hard enough without having to worry about things like microbiology! lol If you have a chance to take James Messenger for stats he was great! He makes the concepts really easy to understand and you don't have to read the book to get them (that book made it all seem so complicated). And Jill Loukides was awesome for microbiology, she was a little strict in lab but a good/fair teacher.

AACC Fall 2017
I am still on the fence but strongly leaning towards hybrid. I have a little one and it would be much easier to do classes and clinical on nights and weekends when my husband is home to take care of her.

Yay! That's so exciting :) I hope I get mine within the next two weeks as well. Are you going to try and do the traditional or hybrid program?

It Ain't Like The Movies!
I'm not a nurse yet and I love watching Greys but what annoys me about is that the hospital seems to be run by nobody but the surgeons lol. They're all working in the ER for every simple case and there don't appear to be nurses anywhere except to be occasionally yelled at. I always think its funny that these surgeons spend their entire days providing basic patient care that a nurse would normally be taking care of.

AACC Fall 2017
I submitted my application on the 15th and they emailed me Tuesday (the 19th) with some information about the selection process and said they are currently filling the Fall 2017 spots. I haven't received my conditional acceptance yet but checking everyday. When did you submit your application? My friend applied last summer and she said it took about a month to get the email, but be prepared to possibly start the semester prior. They will call people up to 24 hours before the semester starts if a spot opens up last minute.
