  1. Thank you so much ICUman! That information is incredibly helpful. Sounds like Sunrise might be a good fit for me. ?
  2. Hello. I am a CTICU RN with 3 yrs UC experience. I'll be moving back home to Las Vegas from CA in June. Just trying to see, which hospital will be a good choice for me to apply to. Does anyone know how summerlin or sunrise treats their nurses? Assignments? And if anyone knows the starting pay for RN3 in Las Vegas. Thank you!!!
  3. Welcome to the CTICU! Me and another cticu resident officially start on the floor next week. We are communting from Raleigh, which is about and hour drive each way. Parking sucks, as we are low on the totem pole & have to park in the far garages. Hearing mixed reviews about Durham. Raleigh is really cool, but far. Cary and Chapel Hill are good options too! Hope this helps! - Ray
  4. Kdeeds, Another west coaster! Any news after the interview!? - Ray
  5. Aluv4health!!! Yes PM me your email, so we can meetup and toast!! Happy travels. FutureRN17, yes Chapel Hill was my #2. I'm sure they will let you know soon. I know how being in the unknow feels. Fingers crossed!!!
  6. Hi! Congrats!!! To start, I am staying with family in Raleigh. I want to take my time finding a place, but I am set on staying in Cary. My aunt says that's where all the transplants move to. It's very nice, safe, and close to Durham. I'm so excited for you! :)
  7. Fingers crossed for you futureRN17!!
  8. Congrats on folks getting job offers!!! I have the new hire welcome event on Friday March 18th. Anyone else gonna be there!? My one way flight to NC is in 36 hours. Goodbye California!! - Ray
  9. Hi sdowd93 & futureRN I just got hired in the CTICU. My shadow was super laid back...everyone is so nice. I was paired with a new grad from the bay, where im coming from. I got the lay of the land, and asked questions. It was so great...u will love the unit. The interview was so chill, basically explained the residency. I think they asked me like 3 questions ... why duke, leadership, and what i bring to the unit. Don't be nervous, be excited and show u want to be apart of the team!! Good luck! I hope i get to see you on the unit!! -Ray
  10. Future_RN17, Yes I have a 13yo son as well, so I completely understand. Just me and him, so I need to be in Cary as well. :) My NC fam says Cary is a great place for families with kiddos. They send u relocation packet right away. the grant says you will get the $3000 6-8 wks after your 1st day. but I think you need to submit the paperwork 30 days before start day. That's why they sent it to me asap, as I dont start til 3/21. Hope this helps. Relocating is the real deal guys! I'm already packing. - Ray
  11. DAMN F'ing AWESOME!!!! Congrats!!! Surgical/trauma vs cardiac....tough choice! lol!! Both sound bomb though. When is your start day Josh!!? :) Can't wait to meet everyone too!
  12. Hey just got my relocation stuff. they give you $3000 flat or you can use their listed movers & they will pay them directly. APT area's: Durham super diverse and urban very hipster metropolitan area. seems like oakland, where there are upscale and lowscale areas. Cary is very nice - where all the MDs, RNs and researchers live. It's very close to durham - 15-30 mins. Apex is basically Cary. Raleigh is very huge. mixed areas of country-like (outskirts) and metropolitan/urban by the downtown area. it's like 1 hour to 30-40 mins depending on where u are.
  13. Future_RN17 nice to meet ya! Cool background btw, and big congrats on the PCICU interview! Peds make me shake in my boots lol, so kudos to you! I just got hired in CTICU. I'll be coming from bay area! - Ray
  14. KKnursing, Hello! I'm a dec 2015 BSN graduate. I was unlicensed when I sent my app, but licensed now. I don't have a 4.0 gpa, but cum laude. I was a nurse intern in cardiac cath lab for 8 months and precepted in the ICU (cardiac & neuro). I have cardiac exposure, so I really tried to sell it in my cover letter because i wanted CTICU. Previous to nursing school I was a cytology lab rat. I do think that they don't look at GPA (another allnurses thread said that). The manager said some RN residents in the CTICU have never been in the ICU before, so I assume experience varies. I hope this helps! Good luck! - Ray
