Hi everyone! Didn't realize someone had asked me a question about the NCLEX book I previously mentioned in a post. The book is the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN exam by Linda Anne Silvestri. It has really great summaries of everything and also has questions. I like it because it is a quick overview of important things for each section. Make sure you get a new one because the online code is invaluable. Most of our class has used it to study for the HESI exams which we have to take for many of the classes. I use mine so much pages are starting to fall out! The ISBN number for the book is:978-1-4557-2755-1 You can use that code to find the book or order it at any book store. The other book of just the questions is ok and will be helpful but the one that everyone is using is the Comprehensive review one.

Btw- warning- orientation is rather lame. Just want to give you the heads up. Suggestions for books that will help- Fundamentals for Success- see if you can find someone with an online version. It will help you the first semester get into the swing of things answering critical thinking questions. That it seems is what everyone has the most difficulty with. Brush up on medical terminology. If you don't know what a word is in the question, how can you possibly pick the right answer. The lingo is a completely different language so can be a challenge to many. Buy the Saunders- NCLEX review book- It is about $60.00 but has been the most worthwhile thing I have bought. Mine is now almost falling apart I have used it so much. Buy it new with the code inside. That code and the online review questions will be invaluable to you to help you study for the HESI each semester. Remember in MDC the HESI is worth 15% of your entire grade so unless you have an A in the class you cannot afford to get a big fat 0 on the test. At MDC you must get 750 to get any points for the HESI. Below 750= 0 and will basically drop your grade 2 letter grades- A to C, B to D etc. Good luck and when they say you need to study they are not joking. Our class started off with 50 people- 23 flunked fundamentals, we lost 12 more in Pharmacology and Med Surg. Out of the original group I think we have 15-17 left so far and I am in 3rd semester. Nursing school has been one of the hardest things I have done and one that I am most proud of. Keep studying- you can do it!!

I am a 3rd semester nursing student in the Generic program at MDC Homestead. Re. Complio. I signed up fro two years just to get it over with. Otherwise you have to sign up again after the first year. Just made life easier when you have other things to worry about. Can get vaccines at Walmart- so far that is the cheapest we have found1 approx. $5 cheaper than Walgreens or CVS. I have a few books to sell if anyone is interested- Fundamentals book and the book by Jarvis used for Health Assessment. I am pretty sure they are using a newer version for Health Assessment here at Homestead but many are still using the older book as it is cheaper. Prefer Homestead student to sell to as I know Fundamentals will be using same book I have as I know the professor. Let me know if any Spring Homestead student is interested.
