  1. Hello all, I was hoping a more seasoned nurse might be able to help! I have a hospice patient with prostate cancer and decreased short-term memory who has developed a stage 2 pressure ulcer on his coccyx. He gets a local morphine/ketamine/bupivicaine cream on it twice a day, and Q2H PRN. At this point, he is quite dyspneic when he tries to ambulate, so he is becoming increasingly bed bound. We have tried bolstering him to lay on his side to offload, but he keeps pushing himself onto his back. We have also tried putting a duoderm on the non-involved skin and then attaching the mepilex to the duoderm, so that we are not removing the dressing directly from the skin. Additionally, he is getting breakthrough cream quite often throughout the day, which also makes the dressings difficult (we have been adhering the dressings only on three sides and then applying the cream under the fourth). Unfortunately, these dressings seem to sheer and the wound appears to be getting worse. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Aside from the short term memory issues and increased fatigue, this patient is actually quite stable, and I hate that this wound is the biggest issue for him right now.
  2. Hey guys, I started a FB group for our cohort. It's "University of Calgary Nursing - January 2016" ( Facebook dot com / groups / 1481412102165810 ) I'm so excited to meet you all in January!
  3. Hey kneuroknut, my gpa was at 3.55. There's been a few issues with my application (I took college courses before completing my undergrad at a university, and then had my masters at a different university, so there were quite a few transcripts to contend with; plus, I applied on August 31st). Best of luck securing a spot!
  4. I'm in! I spoke to the office just now, and I'm in! I'm just waiting on the portal to actually change over (apparently I was accepted on Tuesday?) and I'm waiting for the package to be mailed out. So exciting!
  5. Also, @mainurse - I don't have fifteen posts, so no private messaging for me...
  6. I still haven't heard anything which is driving me crazy, since I'm moving from out of province and my husband will also need to relocate to Calgary, should I get accepted. I really hate that dot. I spoke with the admissions officer earlier this week and they had a question about my anatomy and physiology since the school I took them through has odd numbering for each half (1109 & 1203), but that seems to be sorted. She said I should expect to hear by the end of next week. I applied with my 3.55 GPA at the very end of the application period, so I'm guessing that's why it's taking so long? Either way, I'll let you all know whenever I hear anything.
  7. Congratulations Soorieh! That's really exciting! I'm so anxious over here... I've been checking this forum and the portal daily. It's killing me! I hate that stupid green dot.
  8. @ultra_violet: I think I've read before that "animal" physiology courses aren't accepted as human anatomy/physiology courses....
  9. Hi guys, My status finally changed to the little green circle (one of my schools took forever to send my transcript), so now I'm waiting! My gpa is a 3.55 (I took the anatomy classes after I graduated, which dropped me considerably), undergrad in Sociology from UVic, some grad courses from SFU. Good luck to everyone waiting!
