Hi! If you don't pass one class you can't proceed to medsurg 2 I believe. I don't know if they will let you take OB/peds without taking Medsurg 1 so you might be taking just one class next semester. I'm in the same boat waiting for the instructors to watch the tapes to get the final verdict. I pass the exam, but I accidentally zoomed out of my screen while being proctored. I'm hoping that won't hold me back as well. take care

So as of March 30th the NCLEX is Next Gen. We just had our second midterm for medsurg and it had a lot of Next Gen questions. I think since testing is changing on a National level, it will probably be Next Gen Like. Since nobody has finished capstone since this new implementation, it's hard to tell.

It's doable but you have to do a lot of research and studying of medical terminology and pharmacology. With having medical terminology knowledge you are able to break words down to figure out the disease or medications. It definitely helps when your guessing and using the process of elimination.

Yes, they had bad scores before because most people just cheat on all their work online and then expect to pass the classes. Also, if you don't have any prior clinical experience as a LVN, this school does not provide great clinical experience past working in a skilled nursing facility so like I said, people were cheating on test and then that's why they weren't passing the tests. Since I've been here at clinical, I have met some great teachers that actually care about students and I feel like they are advocating to improve the system to allow better clinical experience. They have now made it if you don't pass the exit exam plus skill assessment you will not be able to sit for boards. From what I heard our exit examination is harder than the NCLEX and they do that on purpose to make sure that you're prepared to sit for boards. Students and teachers are taking school more seriously in my opinion, especially since we all pay out of pocket. They are working on getting more equipment and more staff to accommodate the hundreds of students that they accept at a time. This is not normal to most nursing schools who usually only except 30 to 60 people a semester. The bottom line is this you are going to sit for the exact same board test that all the other schools do. In my opinion it's about you putting in the work and learning for yourself. Your associate degree will be just as valid as any other nurses programs degree, there is no difference between the state boards so if you are interested in getting your license and then going from there whether you're getting your BSN at another school just to get your foot in the door then this is the way to go. There is good and bad at any school. It's up to you if you want to go to the school but you have to put in the work so that you can sit for the same boards as everyone else there is no easy ride in the situation.

We just spoke about this today in clinical one of my classmates was paranoid about it and so she called the ACen and made sure that they were listed as accredited and then you can also see on the Florida Board of Nursing website that the school is fully accredited. also, if anybody else wants to know it's $1000 a month they do not offer any financial aid it's completely out of pocket you can do financing with a particular company that they work with but the interest rates are high. It's better to just finance your own loan I do believe that the military will pay the tuition for the school. You will spend a significant time away from your family. MedSurg fundamental clinical and psych require 13 days of clinical Monday through Saturday not including Sunday. For example, I'm here for 16 days but I'll be at school for 13 of those. Days. MedSurg two with OB and pediatrics requires another 13 days at school. Capstone requires 17 days at school +7 days for residency week. You will spend a lot of money on your plane and accommodations and rental car but even with all of those expenses it is still cheaper than a California school and you can still work. If you're tired of waiting around to get into a nursing school via raffle in California, this is the school for you they take expired prerequisites and there's no TEAS examination. The school is legitimate. We've all done the research.

As of the last cohort to graduate in January, I was told 99% graduates passed the NCLEX. I haven't seen the scores myself but the school is making changes to improve the outcomes. Just know since this is a hybrid program you will be doing a lot of self teaching. If you never have taken a online class, it's a lot. We get between 4-6 chapters to read a week, 4-6 quizzes and at least 24-31 assignments a week on top of four lectures a week online (teams) that last between 1.5-2 hrs each. If your a LVN you will do well, but you have to stay on top of your homework. All honesty, if you have dreams of working at a magnet hospital or any hospital, you won't get the clinical experience you need. But you will get your license as soon as 4 weeks after Graduation, and then you can endorse your license to work in California. It's a faster way of getting to where you want, and then it's all on the job training. good luck.

My only kid will be 2 next month. It's been rough and we facetime a lot. But I'm doing this for her future so it motivates me. Think about the great life you can provide your babies with more money and more time to spend with them because you don't have to work so much. It's worth it. Put your 100% in it.

Study a HESI nursing fundamental and Pharm book. I didn’t, I studied an NCLEX and only passed Fundamentals. freshen up on your calculations and rounding rules, and do your self a favor now and learn dimensional analysis instead of order/on hand because it doesn’t work for all the complex calculations. look at Elsevier study materials because that’s all we use. When did they stop experimental credit? I just spoke to them 2 weeks ago and they said they offer that. I also have been licensed since 2006. was the test hard to skip the bridge part? I've primarily worked in specialty so I’m rusty on overall nursing skills. They said if I pass it will take one year.

Hi everyone, I ran across this program as well, but is it TRULY transferrable to get a California RN license once you got one on Florida? this program reminds me of Excelsior college that was banned from California being eligible so I’m weary to waste $46k on a school where I can never work in California. I was told today I got in, and can start in June. I need time to think about it. Sounds to good to be true. I would need to repeat all my prerequisites to apply to any school in California as they are 5-7 years old.

I went to City College of San Francisco LVN program and graduated in 2004. My teachers were all old school RN's (graduated from hospital live in programs). They always told us, the real only difference from a LVN and RN is the ability to push a narcotic through a I.V. They also said just like ADN, the LVN spends more of the education learning the job of nursing, and less time focused on the multiple higher level education course that the BSN receives. They said clinically, the ADN and even LVN were more prepared for the job. All the politics of nursing is what created the divide. Yes the BSN can be in management, but those of us who don't care to ever do that, can find our fit with ADN, and LVN. Personally I miss the time I spent as a CNA. My patients would always say "you are my real nurse because you make sure I am clean. and fed, and presentable for when my family visits. As a LVN I have become a pill pusher with little time to create the bonds I had as a CNA. Of course I too long for my RN degree, because at the end of the day, your title is what gives you respect educationally, and options in career.

That is terrible that you would be fired based on a non- life threatening med/documentation error. That should have been just a write up. Trust me, I have worked for Shady Organizations and that's why I have pondered the idea of Malpractice insurance.

I have been working on my RN program pre-requisites for the past 4 years, and I completed all my science courses through Unitek as well.Problem is I was hoping to get loans for the crazy $42,000 tuition, as well as a cost of living loan because I would be virtually unemployed during the program (mortgage, car payment, bills). So I recently went to the "info Session" and was told that before being able to speak to the financial aid department, I would have to complete the one month full time LVN-RN transition course, and pass with a good grade. Thats a $3,000 class, plus I would need living expense monies, since it is not included in the tuition! I said, "well how do I know if I can afford the program unless I speak to financial aid first?". Seems like a way to really get your money just to find out you may not get in the program! They literally said if you pass the class and you speak to financial aid, you better be able to pay As soon as possible or they will just move onto another applicant who can pay. Off the record a woman who worked there told me that they only use Sallie Mae Loans, and its only up to $25,000 given so you basically have to have the extra monies plus living expenses in order to be able to get into the program. After 4 years, and over $8,000 spent on Uniteks Pre-requisites, I may not ever get to be a RN after putting so much time into my education. The reason I even took the Pre-requisites at Unitek is because they were easy to enroll in (Jr colleges are so impacted with potential nursing students it was hard for me to even get the classes I need in the small time frame I have with work). So Beware Unitek College LVN-RN students! Unless you live at home with your parents or marry rich, this program is a no no! My last hope is going to be Carrington College. The rep said I can speak to financial aid first before wasting my time with that school. Worst thing is most other schools do not accept Uniteks Pre-requisite courses, not even Excelsior College thats not even board approved in California will! So Unless I have given up on my dream entirely, I am going to have to repeat the courses. Good Luck.
