The nurses didnt tell CNA's about anything. There was no precautions whatsoever. The policy on PPE is to have the equipment by the door and a sign by the door. There was nothing for months. The nurses were clearly negligent. And dont even get me started on the infection control manager. The place I work at is so corrupt, a lot of people are calling state. No my fault whatsoever. I had no idea what scabies looked like, the CNA's don't get good report either like "be careful of his rash it might be contagious" they let this resident touch other residents and wheel around the facility having full blown untreated crusted scabies.

The unit I work on is on isolation due to scabies. I've come in contact with patients whom have scabies. I unknowingly shook hands with an infected patient only to find out the next day he has scabies on his hands. It gets worse, a resident i've taken care of for a month has had rashes and CRUSTED rashes which means its severe crusted scabies! The nurses knew about this for a month, didnt do anything. I was still careful but did not dress up for PPE because I didnt know it was scabies. I thought it was a normal condition he had. I feel like us CNA's are never updated right away about if our resident has a contagious condition or not. The resident was just recently put on PPE after having severe scabies for God knows how long. How do I not have scabies yet? Im on a skin antibiotic called minocycline, does this protect me from scabies? Im not a nurse yet, wouldnt know. I feel so itchy. Ugh.

So training is over as a CNA in a nursing home, was on my own today. It's completely normal to be slow the first day on my own correct? My floor partner kept critiquing me and said i was slow. I thought i did the best of my "first day beginner" ability. I didnt even take my lunch. Only had a 15 min break. I'll get faster over time obviously. Im just really stressed out. Normally overwhelmed i guess for my first day. How long did it take you to become faster/comfortable? Any tips? Advice?

Would anyone be nice enough to give a full description of their evening shift duties? Like you clock in, get report, etc. I would like to know what to expect as a new CNA. Orientation starts Thursday. I obviously know the job description of a CNA and can perform all of them but I would like to know the order they are performed in and tips to make things easier. Im probably asking for too much but I'm kind of nervous for my first job as a CNA. Charting tips? etc. I can use all the advice & tips I can get. In my clinicals I did a lot and learned a lot but not completely everything, like charting, giving report. Okay, sorry for this long question, i know I'm kind of asking for a lot so I apologize. Thanks in advance!

So I got this job as a CNA in a nursing home, where I live, south of seattle, the minimum wage was raised up to 12 dollars. Its gradually increasing to 12 dollars each year so right now its $10.35. My starting pay would have to be more than minimum wage at least 11-12 dollars an hour right? I didnt go over the wages with my employer yet so we will go over it during orientation. But i'd like to know what y'all think. (:

No, I didnt put down that I had my NAR or NAC.

So, i hope someone can answer and give me clarification. Im getting paranoid because I just got a CNA job interview and the employer said since my NAC is pending, she can hire me as a NA at first. Under my NAR im assuming. But my NAR has expired a couple weeks ago, will i still get hired? I didnt even have my NAR for a full year yet but it still expired on my birthday. Do i need my NAR renewed in order to get hired? I've been trying to get a job as a CNA while 17 which was hard and like a struggle. I honestly dont see why they couldnt hire me. I passed my state certifications. They can at least hire me first and give me a chance to have my license active right?

I had an interview for a CNA night shift position and it went really good. The employer said she would call me next week about orientation and that they will run the background check. Is that a good sign? Or do they usually just say they will call and mention something about orientation? Thanks (:

So i know being a nurse requires some math...and thats my weakest subject. How hard is the math for LPN's? I feel confident in everything else but math is kind of discouraging me, making me feel kind of uneasy and nervous. I do want to be a nurse, i became a CNA, now doing my prerequisites for LPN and soon RN in the future. I've always told myself that i'd never get a career that requires math but here i am doing something that may require some math calculations with dosages and etc. Can someone just explain how hard it is? Or does it become easy to understand and learn eventually? I need some relief, encouragment, and tips. Please and thank you. (:

Thanks for sharing! I'll call my local hospitals and find out about that. And i've called a bunch of nursing facilities and they say they only hire 18 and above. It looks like i'll just have to wait until im 18.

I just got my NAR last month in july and it expires on my birthday. And i have yet to mail the paperwork and 48 dollars to receive my CNA license. So i was wondering when i send for my CNA license and get it, will it expire the same time my NAR expires which is on my birthday? If so, would i have to retake the state certification test and pass in order to renew it since i have not worked as a CNA yet? Pretty stressful if so because i plan to work asap when i turn 18. Hey everyone. My name is joseph and i've just became a new CNA. I plan to move up in the nursing field to become a RN. But as of right now im 17 years old going into my senior year. And im trying to get a job at a nursing home so i can gain experience. Its been so hard but i finally 'thought' i found a job at this nursing home down the street from my house. I went through orientation and was officially hired until i got a call the morning of the first day i was suppose to work... The employer noticed in the computer system that im 17... She called and said i had to be 18 to work there due to legal, liability, restriction reasons which i understand but at the same time it's obviously very disappointing. To make a long story short. I have yet to find a job as a CNA here in Washington state and i was wondering if anyone has any advice for me on what i could do to find a job? Should i just wait till im 18? Volunteer at a nursing home or hospital to gain experience? Internship? Keep looking? Can i do in-home care? What should i do now?
