Value of Nurses
I was not going to say anything but that one post pissed be off. Why do you think it was not appropriate for me to comment on nurses. I have been taking care of by many nice nurses. My older brother was a nurse many years ago ( When you guys got paid way less then now ) and I have 3 nieces that are nurses. One of them is the head surgical nurse for the top heart doctor in Michigan. Also I worked in a nursing home for 5 years when I was younger. Also I was a ward secretary that helped the nurse. At that time we did not have computers and I had to pull all the patients chart on all 4 floors so the nurse could do her charts on all her patients by hand then put them back. All for $5.25 a hour. Also when they were short aids I took care of 9 patients to help out that was in front of my desk. I know how hard you guys work. We need more of the nurses that care about there patients and helping out there co workers. That is all I have to say Good bless you all Ken. PS Had a 9 hour heart ablation November 28. Burned the whole left side of my heart. 11 months no problem. Was in the hospital 9 times last year. The nurses were all great. Thank God for nurses

Nurses Care in General
Hello all. This is just a thank you for all the good nurses in this world. When I first came on this site I did have a bad outcome with 5 nurses. If you remember I came on in 2014 and had a horror story about a male nurse forcing a catheter in me with out permission. I will never forget that. Not only in the emergency department but when I was taking to my room they tried to get one in even after I told them no. It is over but I will remember it till I die. Over the last 3 years I have been in and out of the hospital for many things. I don't care what you do but ask me first and get my permission. I have papers that I carry with me now after my horror in the hospital. I have a stricture just before the prostate and my urologist told me that no one would have been able to get a catheter in. I don't see what the rush was I was being admitted to the hospital. Anyway. With me having many procedure done and surgery's the nurses have been great at 4 different hospitals. The last surgery I had was a 9 hour heart ablation. The nurses were very good and they were fast I never seen anyone move so fast. The only thing was that I had to have a catheter put in. I told them what kind ( coude catheter 14fr or smaller ) The 4 nurse in the procedure room never put in this kind of catheter. While they were shaving me to put the electric pads. I told them what my urologist told me. That the point has to go up facing me so it will go easier through the prostate to the bladder. They put it in after I was put out. She was very nice. And she laughed you learn something every day. Well it worked and I have not had any problems. Considering I was in the hospital 9 times last year. And this year nothing. I thank all the nurses. You work very hard at what you do and a lot of people to not respect that. I know my earlier problem they were trying to help me but there is a way to go through the procedure. Thank You...Thank You. Ken

How long can a patient go without urinating after receiving a Duramorph spinal?
Not everyone pees the same. I had a heart ablation done on the 28th of November. the procedure was 9 hours. They put a catheter in for the procedure and it was taking out when I woke up. The 2 nurses one male one female told me if I don't pee within 4 to 6 hours they would have to catheter me. I only pee twice a day and I don't pee on demand. When I go to my urologist I take a urine sample with me. They keep on coming and asking me if I went yet. The female nurse even had a catheter in her hand. She kept telling me she was going to put it in if I don't pee and I told her no your not. Not without my permission. I peed about 100cc about 5 hour later. They finely left me alone I went home and have no problem. No one does anything to me unless they have my permission. I was upset when they put a A-line in me for the surgery. I would have like to know about it. I know they were trying to be safe but tell a patient he told me everything else. Ken

How do people feel about male nurses?
I'm a male and I have had male and female nurses take care of me. I was just in the hospital for a heart ablation. It took a total of 9 hours. Before I had it I had to be shaved all over. I had a male nurse do it. He was just assigned to me. And the next day I had a male take out my catheter. I think a female put it in but I was out. There were 3 female nurses in the a-fib lab. Has the other post said there are sometime the patient will ask for one or the other. When I had my gall baller out I had a female nurse come in and ask if it was all right to shave me or would I like a male nurse. I told here that it was ok for her. She was very nice and did a good job. For me I don't care who does anything for me as long as they ask first. I like to know what is going on. Take care all Ken

How to decrease pain during foley cath or straight cath procedure
Hello all. Have not been on in a while Been in the hospital. Had a Heart Ablation. 6 hour procedure. What I would like to know is. Ok I have a stricture just before the prostate and I have to have a coude 14 F catheter if I have to have one. When I told the nurse in the hospital she said we will have to find one. and another nurse asked what was it. Now this is a big hospital. In school do they not teach the nurse about different catheter type. I know regular catheter are all over the hospital I even told the nurses how to insert it the way my urologist told me. That the tip has to be up facing me so it will go through the prostate. Don't you think that a nurse should know be trained on how to put one of these in. There are many men with stricture and it would be easy and less pain full. I carry a copy of the report of my stricture and no one is allow to catheter me with my permission. I don't want any trouble with my stricture. Have a nice day and holiday Ken

Value of Nurses
I'm writing this today to give thanks to all the nurses in this world. I don't know if any of the nurses remember my post but in short I had a catheter force in me with the nurse not even telling me what he was going to do. I heard no kit open or any cleaning. My son was just told to leave That is all I'm going to say. It has been 2 years and it's over but I will never forget it and him. Over the last 2 years I have been in and out of the hospital for many reason from gallbladder surgery...A-fib...3 times in the hospital...Prostate surgery. Bladder spasm with a 24 flush...A heart Cath...And a Linq monitor put in my chest. I want to say thank you to all the nurses out there that have taking care of me and the ones that take care of all the people in this world. You have a hard job and you have to deal with a lot. I live in Orlando Florida have been taking care of in 3 of the Florida's hospitals I will be going back in December to have a ablation. God Bless you all Ken

How to decrease pain during foley cath or straight cath procedure
Thank you for the reply. They do the urojets in the doctors office when I have a scope done. The first time in 2014 they use nothing and believe me it hurt. He never even told me what he was doing. That was when I did not know I had a stricture. The 3 times I had surgery my urologist put them in while I was asleep. The last time when I had the bladder spasm they gave me morphine and the nurse was very nice. The is good to know but it only help in the member not the prostate Thank you ken

How to decrease pain during foley cath or straight cath procedure
Hello all. I have not been on for awhile and I would just like to make a comment. As you know if you read some of my posts I had a very mad experience with a male nurse having a catheter force in to me without even talking to me but that is done and I am over it. Never will forget it but life goes on. Over the last eight month's I have been in and out of the hospital from heart problem gallbladder surgery A-fib attacks had 3 of them. Also had a repair done on my uro-lift and had emergency surgery for bleeding was passing blood clogs. I just what to say to all nurses. THANK YOU All were very kind to me every time I was in. The last was for the bladder spasm and had to be catheter and flushed out. The nurse was great she did he best to try to relax me. Did not use any gel this time but they gave me morphine for the pain. She listened to what I said. I am under a urologist and have a stricture in the urethra. I cannot have anything bigger then a 14fr coude catheter;. It took her 2 time to get it in the bladder. After 15 minute of flushing by hand I was still bleeding. Had emergency surgery. Turned out to be 3 blood clogs around the prostate The doctor burn the other 2 clods the surgery was 3 hours before I stopped bleeding He put in a 20 fr 3 way catheter had to be flush for 24 hours. 6000cc saline going through by bladder. Everyone in the hospital were great. All nurses work so hard and have to do a lot. There was only one time I was embarrassed The second day a nurse came into the room. I think she was a tech only 21 and very petty. She came in and had to wash my private area and to make sure that the catheter was clean of the blood all over. She told me and ask if it was ok. I say go ahead and she did The RN came in that was in charge of the floor and made sure she was doing it right. I worked in a nursing home for 5 years and took care of many people and when you seen one body you seen them all. It never faze me because I was doing something to help them out. The blood clogs were cause from my blood thinner. I am doing great now. You may not hear from for me for awhile But I just like to say you all have a special job and I am glad you are who you are...THANK YOU AGAIN FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART Ken

Urolift and implant replacement with issues
Hello I don't know if you can help me or not. I had a Urolift done in April of last year. Had a catheter for 3 days. urine cleared up with in 24 hours very little clogs. Yesterday had to have one of the implants replaced. The implant he replaced was cutting my prostate and caused me a infection. He put in a new one and cleaned up the mess on the prostate. I think he had to cut away a little of the prostate so it would not get a infection again. I have a catheter in and I have been bleeding and passing blood clogs. and my urine is still a dark burgundy. I just past a 2 in blood clog from the tip of the member and it hurt like hell when I pee and pass the clogs. Nothing is the way it was why I had the 4 put in before. I do go on Monday and have the catheter out. My son is worried that because of all the blood that has been coming out he is worried that I am hemorrhaging. I feel ok do have a headache. Is this normal. I do know all procedure are different. Show I go to the hospital or just wait and see the urologist on Monday. Thank you for you time ken

Foley Catheters
Hello all. Thank you for reading. As you know form some of my post that I am not a fan of catheters but working on it. I know sometime it is necessary. I had by gallbladder surgery on November 11 and did not need one because it was only a hour but I did give my permission to my surgeon and the anesthesiologist if they needed to catheter me they had copy's of the report from my urologist about my stricture. I like being ready for anything. Not having something put in that is going to hurt me and not fit. All went well. I will be having some stuff done at my urologist office and may be having surgery. I was looking at a video about catheters and the nurse was very good but I feel that more question should be ask before it is done. After you get permission. One should be have you ever had a catheter. To me it not a procedure everyone has had. I was 59 before I had my first one. Also don't tell the patient that it's not going to hurt. It may not hurt like being shot or a broken arm but it does hurt and is very uncomfortable. Your putting in a tube that is 20 or 22 in size in a small hole that stuff comes out not in. I feel that would help your patient relax more. I know nurses are here to help you and don't like to hurt anyone but sometime it pays to tell the truth. I do feel more relax in the hospital now and have all my papers with me. I pray for all nurses that God gives them the skill to carry on in what ever they do. Thank you Ken

Foley Catheters
Hello all. Just checking and hoping all is well with all of you. As you know I wrote a few time about having a problem with a catheter. The problem was that they did not ask or tell me why. I will be having gallbladder surgery on November 9th and the doctor that I am using told me that he does not use catheters for that surgery. Because it around a hour. But I did give him and his staff permission to catheter me if there is a problem you never know. I gave him a copy of the report from my urologist that tells them about the stricture that I have and the kind of catheter they have to use. They can call my urologist if they have to. I don't care if it's a male or a female nurse that does it A nurse is a nurse. There here to help. I would ready be prepared for any problem. Take care and you all have a great holiday...Ken

Silver....Thank you for your reply most of the nurses were very good to me in the hospital. But things happen. I will never forget it but I do deal with it and try to help others so it will not happen to someone else. I did send another letter to the risk department on the 1 year anniversary just to remind her.......Take care

Foley Catheters
Thank you for writing back. Sorry I may not phrase things correctly. but all you have to do is tell me what your doing and why. At the time this was done I did not have a prostate problem. After seeing a urologist he found a stricture just before the prostate from kidney stone surgery that I had 12 years ago. The doctor said that the blood was from the catheter hitting the stricture. Thank you again
