  1. I'm being offered $48/hr wound care assistant nurse manager in Tacoma, WA; full time with benefits. I'm currently a Charge RN for my outpatient wound care clinic in Los Angeles, CA and getting paid $52/hr. I've been in wound care for 3 years but an RN for 8 years. Since I don't have my wound care certification, they will pay for my WOCN. I'm trying to factor cost of living in Tacoma. Is this a good offer?
  2. TheCommuter, can you tell me about the property taxes that you have to pay in Texas? People tell me it's way too high out there. How much property taxes do you pay for your house that you bought for $105,000?
  3. I really wanted to be in the low $40's range and tried to negotiate. They just increased the offer to $39.50. LOL I guess that's better than nothing. I'm glad that I asked though, I had to find out before moving across the country. But from what everyone is saying, it is already a great offer and a great start with that company. I haven't accepted but will tell them my final answer tomorrow after talking it over with my fam. Thanks for all the advice everyone!
  4. When I was a nursing student, I almost passed out during my OB rotation when I saw crowning, which is the point during birth when the baby's head becomes visible. I did not have my child yet nor had I ever seen a birth before. My vision become blurry, and I got dizzy and pale. My preceptor noticed and asked if I was ok. I didn't want to ruin the happiest moment for the parents so I excused myself, went to the bathroom, splashed water on my face and gave myself a pep talk while looking in the mirror. I told myself I wanted to be an RN. this was just another obstacle to get to my goal and I got through it, with an A in OB and clinicals. I did not like it, but I had to persevere. I am not an L&D nurse nor will I ever be. You will just figure out what you can or cannot take. There are so many avenues to nursing and if you love it, do not let anyone discourage you. I love the nursing profession and have deep respect for all that we do. We need more of you out there. I wish you luck in nursing school. Just work hard and never give up. This is just an obstacle in your way to your goal. Always remind yourself of that goal and keep that love for nursing. You can do it! I believe in you!
  5. I'm also a Filipina. Is there a good sized Filipino community out there? What are some issues that you find hard in TX? Someone said there's racism there and it's socially accepted. Have you experienced anything like that? How bout Filipino food and Asian markets?
  6. Thanks ThatBigGuy for breaking it down! It is a full time position with benefits. I am seriously considering the offer.
  7. Thanks PinayUSA! BTW, the job is in southwest part of Fort Worth. Can you suggest the good areas in Fort Worth for someone with a 2 yr old?
  8. I was offered $39/hr to be a wound RN in outpatient clinic in Fort Worth, TX. I have no wound care certifications. Is this a good offer for an RN of 7 yrs with 2 yrs wound care experience? Offer includes $2,500 sign on bonus but no relocation assistance. This is the first offer, should I counter offer? Just seems a little low for me since I'm from CA and our rates are much higher. I'm trying to factor in cost of living. Any advice would help!!!
