Hi, I just had my interview for a Periop Program this past Wednesday. The questions they asked me were the following: 1.) Tell us about yourself. 2) Tell us about the most difficult patient you've had. 3.) What would your current boss/manager have to say about you? 4.) Why did you choose OR nursing? They asked like 2-3 more questions but I can't recall all of them. Here are couple more questions I suggest you be prepared to answer: -Name 3 weaknesses/strengths. -Why did you decide to become a nurse? -Tell us how you've prepared for this positions? -Why do you want to work at (name of facility)? -Why should we hire you? -Why should we NOT hire you? I know this question seems really silly and dumb but I was honestly asked this question in an interview not too long ago. It totally threw me off! Just be prepared for it, you never know the type of interviewer you'll have. Best of luck to you!

Hi, quick question if you don't mind. Did you not work for a whole year and finally land the OR job or did you work a different unit while waiting to land an OR position? thanks so much and congrats!

I have not asked about shadowing in my current facility simply because the OR manager is a friend of my own manager. If my manager were to ask me questions about why I want to shadow on another unit I wouldn't be prepared with an answer. I'm sure her first assumption would be that i'm trying to leave OB. I don't want to cause any complications for myself as I am still new.

Hi everyone, I am a new graduate nurse working in L&D. I really enjoyed the job at first but now i'm convinced it is not for me. I have had the opportunity to work as a circulator in the OR during c-sections and I love the OR. Everything about it fascinates me. I will be applying to some OR jobs but before I do I wanted to shadow an OR nurse for some more experience (other than c-sections). I have called several HR departments asking about any shadowing opportunities they have but they all tell me the same thing, "You have to know a Dr or nurse that is willing to let you follow them." Unfortunately, I don't know any. I would ask at my current facility but the OR manager is friends with my manager and I don't want them to make any speculations. I really don't want to burn any bridges there. Are there any OR nurses in Chicago willing to let me shadow? Any suggestion are also highly appreciated. Thanks!

Any books, websites, classes, etc that you suggest? 2. What qualities/characteristics make OR nurses the most successful? 3. How would you describe the stress you experience in the OR? 4. This question may seem odd but…how is the liability within OR nursing? I only ask this because during my orientation in L&D it was constantly told to me that I need to document EVERYTHING that I do to watch my ***. I was told stories of nurses who were sued and had their licenses suspended or taken away because of small mistakes they made (not calling the dr soon enough, missing something in their charting, etc.). I know that in any area of nursing we can get sued, however, in L&D its much higher because its mother and baby, which is very understandable. The nurses are always reminding me of this and i'm sure it took away some of the excitement. I just wanna know how high is the liability in OR nursing. Thanks

Hi Rose! This is my very first post, I just joined :) I am a new RN working in L&D. I am actually looking to make a change and switch to OR nursing. I serve as a circulator during c-sections and find the OR fascinating. I just don't feel like my heart is in labor but rather in the OR. Before I take that plunge, I was hoping I can get some questions answered if you don't mind?
