  1. Wasn't bad. It was a little strange though, you only got 15 minutes to interview with faculty then another 15 to interview with students. By the time you finish with formalities the interview is over. Not any clinical questions. Just had me describe the environment I work in then normal nursing interview questions: tell me a time when you messed up and what you did to fix it; time you had a conflict with an employee or patient. That kind of stuff. I really didn't think there was enough time to really find out my clinical knowledge. It was like they had pre determined who they were going to pick and just wanted to make sure you weren't crazy lol. Hopefully that helps.
  2. Congratulations lamrti! I ended up choosing the university of Miami. Just a feel thing. Good luck though
  3. That's odd. I'm sure you guys will hear soon though. Mine came at like ten am Monday so I would bet they start coming out tomorrow morning when it gets fixed.
  4. Just got the Email. However, decided to go somewhere else. Good luck to everyone!
  5. I haven't heard anything. I reached out last week to see if the timeline was still the same (they said we should find out this week in my interview), but never got an email in return. I figured that if we didn't hear anything by Wednesday of this week then we wouldn't hear until next week.
  6. It's building blocks. You might have to take baby steps to get into an icu. A lot of hospitals like to hire from within; they can talk to your current manager from the med/surg/pcu unit, and find information about you easier. It's much easier to get into an icu once you have a year or two of experience. It's probably easier to transition from a pcu as opposed to a med/surg unit straight into the icu, but it's also not unheard of. I had to take this route. Started in a nursing home, went to a med/surg floor, then a pcu. I never got any phone calls while I was working in med /surg but once I had some pcu experience I got a phone calls right away from jobs I applied to.
  7. I was in a similar situation. Started in a HVICU from a MICU in March was off orientation in April. When I was hired I had mentioned that my five year plan(she asked) was to be in grad school. In June I got the nerve to open some dialect. I asked her how she would feel with me applying to schools and possibly leaving the next year. She wasn't ecstatic but understood and said she always wants her nurses to reach their goals and agreed to write me a recommendation. It has all worked out really well for me. I guess it depends on your relationship and conversations that you have had about your future. I wouldn't do it while on orientation but if you have a few months in then I would say go for it. However, I did miss a couple deadlines waiting until June as opposed to April and that might happen to you too but that's just part of the vetting process.
  8. The time difference between a BSN and an ADN aren't that different. Usually any program you get into will be two years with possibly two years of prereqs depending on what you did in high school. The biggest difference is the money. You will obviously spend more money at a university in the same time span as you would getting your associates. So, if you can afford to get your BSN I would do it now. Also, like the previous poster stated, most places in big Metro areas wont hire ADNs any more.
  9. Does anyone have recommendations on housing for the UM area? UM's database isn't much of a help when looking for housing in January. Thanks in Advance.
  10. Was also accepted. They set up an interview shortly after I applied and I was informed within a week. Excited to move out there and meet everyone!
