  1. I'm anticipating my ADN this May and have been accepted into both CSU East Bay and Dominguez Hills RN-BSN programs. Does anyone care to share their experience of either program including pros and cons they feel relevant? Thanks!
  2. Hi! The second year students will be meeting with first year students during the orrientation at the end of this month. It is highly encouraged that new students "buddy-up" with second years for help, tutoring and general support. You'll get plenty of tips and advice to start at that meeting.
  3. Yes. I had to call my doctor to write a letter stating the lot and expiration. They have the info but kept insisting they couldn't get to it. Very frustrating!
  4. Has anyone had any luck getting their immunization records with lot # AND expiration date from Kaiser? I've been able to get them with the Lot # but not the expiration date. I've been to 2 different locations and called both immunizations and medical secretary and neither department seem to know how to access that.
  5. Quantitative for Hep B & C. Kaiser does not do quantitative for MMR & tetorifice so you just have to show that you are current on those or positive for antibodies but those do not have to be quantitative. I double checked with Catherine today that this will be okay.
  6. As of Thursday Chabot is still on #16. I moved forward with my requirements for Ohlone to secure my spot!
  7. I talked to the gal who was number 38 and heard back from them as late as end of June last year! There is hope for us you guys! Keep praying!
  8. Did anyone else hear from Chabot this week about what alternate number they are on? I haven't checked since last Friday because the woman asked me not to check back for a couple of weeks so I'm curious to know.
  9. Thank you! You are correct, the woman who distributes the paperwork is not very helpful. Everytime I respond to one of her emails she writes back - "I have no idea what you are talking about but....(insert random info)" I was also nervous because during the info session they had us attend, I couldn't understand the program director, she had such a heavy acent. However, your new info has given me a better idea of what it's like. Thanks for contributing! I will probably reach out to you soon for more info once my paperwork is all submitted and okayed!
  10. I emailed Chabot last week on Friday and they said they were up to 10. Catherine asked that I check back in a few weeks. Has anyone checked on the status this week? In the meantime, I accepted at Ohlone. If Chabot takes me I may withdraw from Ohlone since Chabot is closer and that was my first pick. But I will take what I can get!
  11. I receieved a letter of acceptance from Ohlone today! I am an alternate at Chabot and was hoping for them because I they are closer and as a current student at their sister school, Las Positas, I am more familiar with the layout. I wonder if we can call and ask which alternate they are on! Does anyone know the due dates for the background check? The forms they sent over are vague. Some have due dates and others just say ASAP.
  12. We should be hearing back from Ohlone Fall admission end of May, students selected for Spring will hear back by September. Last year Chabot went up past alternate 38! I met the woman who was alternate 38 and she got in. They even said at the info session that I attended last Fall that they go up very high in alternates and they call people up until the first day of class.
  13. I'm still waiting to hear back from Ohlone in case I get a solid spot there but I am definitely going to submit my acceptance to Chabot! I hope the top of the qualified candidates get into BSN programs or other programs of choice. As for the TEAS I think June is plenty of time. I studied about 2 weeks ahead of time (not as diligent as I could have been) and passed with 83. If you really spend the time you can score in the 90s!
  14. What if he was still high from the incredible time he had with a new dating partner?
  15. Hi everyone! I heard from Chabot today. I am alternate 24! Last year they went up to alternate 38!!
  16. I heard back from Merritt and unfortunately scored a 79 on their criterion score system and an 80 is required for admission. Praying for Chabot or Ohlone! We should be hearing from Chabot next week. We don't hear from Ohlone until the end of May!
  17. I believe they are all "merrit based" then top 1/3 or whatever get put into a lottery.
  18. We are supposed to hear from Chabot the week of April 30 and Ohlone and Merrit mid May! :-) Wish I applied to San Mateo. If I don't make this lottery I will def apply there next round!
  19. Hello Fellow Bay Area Students! Did anyone apply for Chabot, Merritt, or Ohlone's Fall 2017 term? We should be hearing back from Chabot in about 10 days!
  20. I unfotunately received a letter of rejection. Perhaps it is for the best because I really don't have that kind of money and traffic is terrible now adays. Community colleges, here I come!
  21. I talked to USF on Friday and they said they were sending letters out on that day! So if you didn't get mail yesterday (Saturday) you will likely see it Monday! :-) I have yet to receive mine. Anxiously awaiting!
  22. Hi Everyone, I wanted to get some opinions and thoughts from current RNs and nursing students that have had similar experiences. I have started applying to schools for Fall 2017 in the Bay Area. Before I took my TEAS, I had my heart set on USF because they don't require a TEAS (I was terrified of the TEAS) and they are right across the bridge. I put my application in for spring semester. However, I took the TEAS a week or so ago and did alright (80.7%). Now I am elligible to apply to pretty much any program now. I am wondering, if I get an acceptance letter from USF forthe Spring semeter should I go or should I wait it out to hear from other programs and reapply to USF for Fall just in case? I had my heart set on USF but I've attended a few info sessions at other programs and the price difference is HUGE! I would of course like to keep it affordable as I am a financially independent student. But then again, I hear stories about difficulty getting accepted, and sometimes people tell me I should go wherever takes me first. My prereq grades aren't too bad: 4.0 in non-nursing prereqs (Soc, psych, english, etc) B in Bio, B in Anatomy, Projected A in Physio, Projected A or B in Micro, B in Lifespan Psych TEAS: 80.7% Currently already holding an AA (some schools give extra points) Need to work/financial aid qualified student Schools I am applying to: Chabot ADN Ohlone ADN Merrit ADN Los Medanos ADN East Bay BSN Stanislaus BSN USF BSN Any advice, experience or input is much appreciated!
  23. I recently took the TEAS 6. Studied for about a month. I originally planned to study one chapter of the practice books every day until the exam but that just didn't happen. I ended up studying really hard just a week leading up to the exam and did fine. Scored 80.7% overall. Basically the test is going to be very hard for you if you aren't good at reading and comphrehension. It was mostly (in my opinion) knowing how to read questions. The science was sticky though. Make sure to brush up on your basic bio. And make sure you eat a nice size healthy meal before you go in. I unfortunately didn't eat enough and got hungry towards the end. It's a 3 hour test and you aren't supposed to be allowed to access anything once you sit down so be prepared.
  24. Hi Jen! Sorry I am so late to reply. I have been in micro land! We recently took another exam (which I did a bit better at) and I used the publishers site for study help. The SLOs and videos helped me a bit. Thanks for the suggestion!
  25. Hi Everyone, I'm hoping students and nurses who have taken Micro in the past can offer some suggestions as to how to study for such a dense subject. I have a first time professor this semester and her teaching style basically makes the class self taught. She reads right off the power point slides which are verbatum what the book says and she doesn't offer a study guide. I'm okay with not receiving a study guide, I know instructors don't have to make them, but for a subject so dense I would at least think we would get some guidance on which areas to focus on. I studied hard for our first exam and didn't do well so I made sure to study extremely hard for our last exam and I did okay. However, I'm not grasping the material. I've been to office hours and asked the same exact question: Where am I missing the connection? She literally told me "I don't know, read the book more I guess" or "form a study group". Though I appreciate the suggestions they just aren't helpful in giving me context when I have questions about differentiating between all the different topics we are learning about. I have also tried study buddies (others in the class are equally confused), rereading chapters, rewritting my notes and watching videos. I show up to every lecture, ask questions and participate in lab. It is a dense topic! Did anyone have a similar experience? Are there special studying techniques for micro that I am missing? I really appreciate the input everyone!
