working for hospital or home care?
Thanks for all replies. I am the UAS( uniform assessment system) RN in home care. It is a charting system in New York city. Basically, my job is going to client's home and do the assessment according to my computer. I will not do any nursing skills like IV, IM, Wound change....etc. I will get paid $77,000 a year( salary base ). I am my own boss as long as I am able to get my jobs done. As for another hospital offer, the hourly wage starts at $40 per hour, and medical benefit plan is better. I am a foreign-trained RN. I was no luck to locate a hospital job because they all consider me as a new graduate in the US. Finally, I got an offer from mount saini hospital. But, the hours and flexibility in home care are very attractive to me! I know I will have a hard time to make up my mind!

working for hospital or home care?
I recently got two job offers. One is a oncology infusion RN for a local hospital in NYC, the other one is a filed nurse for a home care company. They both pay and benefits are similar. But there is no night *****, weekend and holiday for home care, and the hours are very flexible. Which one should I choose? Give me some advice my fellow nurses!

Working in Nursing home is all the same?
Just an update. I finally decided to quit after two weeks working there. I am planning to quit this Tuesday . Would that be an issue if I don't give them two weeks notice?

Working in Nursing home is all the same?
The resident care ratio in my current place I work with is 1 RN : 40 residents with 2 CNAs. The facility has 280 beds. There are so many IV and oral medications and paperworks to be done in every shift. Sometimes I have to write an accident report when the accident falls or behavior changes. Basically, it's impossible for me to get everything done on time if I want do all the procedures in the RIGHT way. I find it's very dangerous to work there because they are understaff, that's why I consider to quit. Although all nursing mangers there are encouraging me to stay. Another nursing home I consider to work has 330 beds and have 12 beds residents with ventilators. I don't know if this one would get a bit better. I am so torn to make my own decision!

Working in Nursing home is all the same?
I am so torn! Additional $8,000 a year is a lot to me, but I don't like to commute that much. The facility is located in a busy area;it's not worth driving because the chance of finding a parking is pretty slim. The nursing home pay $4 per hour more is as busy as the one I am currently working with. They even have patients have ventilators...I will think about it.

Working in Nursing home is all the same?
It's a 8 hours shift. If I cannot get things done in my shift, then I have to use my own time to get everything finished before I leave. The ratio is 30~40 residents to 1 RN. I got 4 CNAs in the floor. But, it takes me at least 2 to 3 hours to administer medication. I do both oral and IV medications, wound change, answering the phones, giving breakfast and lunch, documentation... a lots paperwork. I would say it's no quality at all. I don't even have time to do my break, that's why I consider to try another nursing home!

Working in Nursing home is all the same?
I recently started a new RN job in a nursing home in New York. I found this job through an agency. They pay me $28 per hour (I feel I am underpay) because I have no experience. The workload is huge, and the orientation is only one week. It's normal that I am off late for 1 to 2 hours without getting pay. There are tons of things to learn, but they don't have enough RNs to share the responsibility. This week, I got another job offer from another nursing home through another agency. The wage is $32 per hour, but this location is a bit far from me compared to the one I am currently working with. It's about one and half an hour to commute by subway. I am kinda want to try the second place because pay is higher, although the place is far from me. Should I try? My friend told me all nursing homes are the same. They have huge workload for Nurses. If you were me, what would you do? Give me some suggestions!

EB3 MOVEMENT 2015---for those who want to pursue their US application.
Hi meeky71, would you mind sharing your experience with your nursing agency? which area are they located? and do they assign for hospitals for you to work after you got the immigration status in US? The agent I contacted with mentioned they will assign jobs for me after I got green card, and most jobs are in nursing home.

EB3 MOVEMENT 2015---for those who want to pursue their US application.
Hi, I recently contact an agency in the US, and they are able to help me file EB3. However, they will charge me $8000 USD as a process fee. Do you think this is reasonable for agency to charge me this amount of money?
