What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?
My story is also not medically related so to speak or quite as spooky but here goes. I've always had some sort of belief in ghosts, afterlife, etc. My family thinks I'm nuts but whatever. When my grandpa (dad's dad) died it was early in the morning while I was getting ready for work. I was downstairs, running around and I stop cold in front of the phone. Just before it rang I knew who was calling and what it was about. My grandpa's gf was calling to tell us that he had just passed. When my grandma (mom's mom) died my mom and aunt were taking care of her. Me and my dad were at home talking about that call that comes when they've passed and how we were afraid of when that call would come. It was the same thing as before. Just moments after we had just talked about that call, the phone rings and both of us just knew. I later found out that she had been waiting for my uncle's permission. He has Down's and wasn't ready to let her go yet. It wasn't until he told her that he'll be alright, Jamie and Sara (my mom and aunt) will take care of him, that she left.

Why?
I'm sure there's a ton of threads out there asking the same thing but: Why did you become a CNA?

Hilarious Conversation with a Patient
I was talking to one lady and she was telling me she's from New York, she's French, etc. Then she asks me if I'm married (I'm not) and goes on to tell me how to land a husband and keep him. Her: "Get a lot of boyfriends. Marry the one who annoys you the least." Me: "Okay. Lots of boyfriends. How do I keep him?" Her: "Here's what I did. I would be in the bedroom and would tell my husband that we need to talk. He'd come into the room... and we wouldn't talk.;)" I was speechless.

What's the meanest thing a patient has said to you?
I just volunteer at LTC/memory care so most of what they say isn't intentional however... There is one resident who reminds me of my grandma. And that woman wasn't afraid to speak her mind. For example: I've complimented her hair and she comes back with, "It wouldn't kill you to look in the mirror though. What's wrong with your hair?" It's a bit frizzy though I've learned to deal with it. She'll come back with another one, like at lunch, "Should you be eating that? You're looking a little plump today." This from the same woman who said, on my first day, "You're not eating anything. Someone get her an ice cream." It's usually about my looks. "Why aren't you married? You're pretty enough." "My, my Miss xxxx, you certainly know how compliment a girl" She is also A & O. She knows she's saying these things. She even said "I don't know why you're smiling. I insult you and you keep on smiling." And I do. I don't know why but I just don't have any comeback for her.
