This post is for those also have a misdemeanor. All nurses message board helped me gather a lot of information, granted some of the posts on here scared me to the point that I had decided to leave CA for good, but i changed my mind and decided to fight for it. I want to say that I read a lot of posts about people who were denied a nursing license or were delayed, placed on probation, and i would like to inform you guys that none of that happened to me. Here is the summary: DUI from 2013, then i started nursing program out of state, i am still finishing the program and i applied in may 2015 for boards. I received their letter today saying that the board will not be taking any action against me. More about me: first offense, just above legal limit blood alcohol level, i wrote a letter explaining my conviction where I think i did up to 10 different drafts because i couldn't get it across on paper how remorseful i was and how stupid i was for driving drunk. So i kept editing it with the help of a good friend who grilled me to make it stand out more and more. I don't know what did the trick, if it was my letter or a combination of my recommendations from nursing professors and a doctor, plus a previous employer also in nursing field. This is to let whoever is reading this: Don't get discouraged, the scary stories about CA brn might be outdated, as they processed my stuff in just three months!!

So, how many years should pass before someone should apply for endorsement with CA? I am in the same boat as OP

Not sure if you are looking for schools that will accept your regardless of your criminal history, here is what i got for you: I study at Interamerican University in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They don't care about your record because it doesn't get transferred here. I have a DUI from 2014 and i have had no trouble at clinicals. I will be sitting for my boards after Feb 2016, where i will have some trouble but i assure you i will be a licensed nurse. If you are interested, i can tell you more about this school, or you can search on this website "puerto rico school" and there is a 100 something page thread on it. But i can always give you an abridged version of it ;]. If you have a bachelors, the program is 2 years, if you have nothing, the program is 3 years (but u can make it 2 years if you do their silly high school level prereqs). Oh yeah, no nursing prereqs required to get in, because their nursing classes merge anatomy/physio into the curriculum. Anyway, ask me questions if this is something you are looking for.

Hello everyone, I have a DUI conviction from March 2014- plead guilty with 0.9 BAC, no prior criminal conviction at all. Applying for NCLEX RN: March 2016 I am from California but I am looking to apply and live in another state. I am looking at Virgin Island to apply for my boards and was wondering if anyone out there has gone through the process. When i contacted them, i was told it could take up to 90 days to be able to sit for NCLEX, but that it will most likely be less than 90 days. Any one else heard this? Also wanted to know if taking the NCLEX is easier in the northeast region: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont; New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. I hear the process can take only up to 8 weeks, can anyone vouch for that? (honestly, i have read too many horror stories about CA BON, i do not have any financial support system so i would need my license pretty soon and i am not sure if taking a risk with CA is the way to go. Although i am currently licensed as a Psychiatric Technician in CA so i wouldn't mind being employed as an LPT until i find an RN job). So once again, here are my questions: 1) has anyone applied through Virgin Island? IF so, would you recommend it? How long is the process if you have a misdemeanor? 2) Is it easier to apply through northeast regions? 3) do you recommend any other state i should consider applying through? 4)...and when is it a good time to return to CA :-( ? It would be two years since my conviction in 2016. If i am a working RN in another state, can i return in about a year to CA? (my case would also be expunged by then) 5) is an attorney really worth it? Or can i just submit my paperwork from courts, letters of recommendations, get a psych evaluation, etc? I know i screwed up so i am willing to face all the consequences, but it would be a dream to live in CA again. Thanks
